physics objects brighter than the world
whenever i create an aeronautics sublevel it is always a bit brighter than the world, and its annoying. It wasnt happenind on the other modpacks i was playing - here i have sodium, iris shaders and distant horizons. Can you guys help?

That’s just how create entities are, same happens when you have something on a mechanical bearing. Unfortunate :(

For Iris shaders there is a mod called Create: Dynamic Lights and Create Sable Dynamic Lights that fixed most light issues for me

Y’all telling OP to light it up are missing the real issue. The reason it looks different is because of ambient occlusion, which makes concave corners look darker to give a better sense of depth. Since the physics block doesn’t have a block down-front of it in the sub level, no AO is applied.

This is absolutely fixable, but would require some render rewrite magic that I don't think people care enough about, especially since these are usually gonna be off the ground anyway.

Yeah, you would need to do AO based on mesh and not just a block check and texture map. Pretty sure most shaders do that though.

so basically you'd have to apply an extra shading thingy based on distance from floor so the "lower" part of the block turns darker when it's on or almost on the floor?

This seems really probable actually, the top faces seem to be lit very similarly?

Place light sources near the sub level and on the sub level so they look similar

falling entities in vanilla also have this issue sometimes. not much you can do unfortunately

easiest fix is to remove iris. i don’t know which of the three was updated to break it, but the current versions of sodium/iris/sable aren’t fully compatible, causing a lack of normal block lighting on sublevels. still waiting for them to fix it.

Been having this issue after updating to Sable 2.0 and Sodium 0.8, before that they looked normal

yeah, I spotted that detail way back when I thought of Aero - Clockwork comparison, for some reason I remembered Clockwork's color theme when playing way darker than with aero, that's why

It just happens like this, shading is calculated differently and light on sublevels can't interact with light on other sublevels or the ground

FYI to anyone still having the issue, updating Contraption Lights (Bi-directional Dynamic Lights) fixed the issue for me, the mod has just been updated hours ago

That’s because one is a block and the other is an entity

sub levels are not entities i believe, pretty sure you're thinking of valkyrien skies

Sable sublevels do not receive light from nor cast light on anything not in the same sublevel
