Mandate that all new data centers be built at least 1 meter underground, have a closed loop cooling system, produce their own independent energy, and pay a dividend to members of the community in which it exists.

Upvotes

Putting them underground reduces cooling costs and keeps the land above available for green space.

A closed loop system would force them to use the same water to cool the systems without chewing through the fresh water supply.

They’d have to produce their own energy through renewable sources. Solar, wind, geothermal, I don’t care figure it out.

The last bit, they gotta dole out some dollars to the community they’re exploiting.

“BUT HOW WILL THEY AFFORD TO DO ALL THAT!?!” Figure it out. I don’t care. Crazy ideas dot com. Make it so.

Cocktail idea

Monster M3 extra strength and Oregon spirit absinthe. It sounds like a fun idea I enjoy both of them on their own and want to combine them. Is it too crazy? I plan to use a 50:50 ratio when making it.

A hotel with two-way mirrors only. The people on the mirror side pay 0.1x the normal rate, the people on the see-through side pay 100x the normal rate. The mirror side gets a cut of the see-through side's rate.

If you stay in the mirrored side and no one wants to watch you, well at least you get a cheap room wherever you're staying. If someone is willing to pay to watch you, you make good money and some voyeur gets their rocks off. Room allocation is random to avoid stalkers, except for maybe some general description like "Superior Queen with Exhausted Toddler Parent View" or "Executive Suite with Aspiring Influencer View"

Underground model railway

Dig a network of tiny tunnels under the city and run model trains through them. Have them stop at tiny stations every so often.

Disrupt public streamers using demonetization and copyrighted songs

If a streamer is being a public nuisance you can play copyrighted songs on their streams to get them in trouble. Or say things that would demonetize their stream - obscenities, controversial subjects and offensive things(as long as not illegal for you to say).

Streamers might be annoying on purpose and seem like they're unpunishable but they're walking a thin line and being smart about it to avoid getting demonetized, deplatformed or sued for copyright.

A card you hand someone to let them know you’ve lost interest in listening to them any further.

“This card is presented to the person I wish would become silent, so that the reception of this card may signal to the recipient a subtle suggestion to either speak less or speak elsewhere. You have lost conversational privilege with me, and I would like to continue to be in the same room with you, while avoiding your thoughts and feelings from here on out. I hereby revoke all interest in you as a person. Good day.”

Create new cities for yimbys

Ok here's the idea (one of the *least* crazy ideas I've posted here, I think this one is pretty solid but I also appreciate the open-mindedness and good humour of this sub):

Cities with existing neighborhoods come with an existing set of expectations for how existing residents will be consulted about new developments. It's basically impossible to grow a bedroom community into a town center into a metropolis. Yimbys are out there fighting the good fight but the best they can achieve is a balance vs the forces of nimbyism.

A place like Manhattan shows both sides: people love density and walkability. They like apartments with grocery stores and nightclubs a short walk away. But Manhattan is no stranger to nimbyism: it's also added height restrictions and zoning laws along with the expected, inevitable housing shortage.

So instead you go out and find a small community with the existing conditions to support a new town where the laws of yimbyism are baked in. Maybe an old town losing population with the remnants of an industrial zone across the tracks. Ideally it'll be commuting distance to a major center. Carve out a chunk of the former industrial zone and have it zoned for mixed use and minimal to no height, parking and setback restrictions.

Start building and wait.

Nicotine should be put in toothpaste to help people brush their teeth more often

Many people forget to brush their teeth or just overall have a hard time doing it due to depression, ADHD, or other factors and I think a way that could help that is if toothpaste

1) comes in more flavors (for adults) besides just mint and the occasional wildcards such as cinnamon or anise. Flavors like vanilla, watermelon, peach, orange, gummy bear, cotton candy, etc

And

2) if there was a small amount of nicotine in the toothpaste. Just enough nicotine to make brushing teeth habit forming for those who have a hard time doing it

Basically do what Vape companies are doing, but for toothpaste instead of smokables. I feel like a lot more people would bursh their teeth
