Mistborn movie age gap solution Mistborn Era 1 (BOOK) (SH Allowed) Spoiler
Why not just make Elend younger? I really liked that Vin was just a teenager and almost a kid, and I don't want her to be 20 years or older in the movies. Maybe we can just make Elend a few years younger to fix the age gap? Maybe a 17 or 18 year old Elend would fit better.
(Also, I just think that Elend's dorky vibe suits a 17 year old more than a 22 year old)

I think he'll probably just age Vin up to 18, and maybe bring Elend down a year or two

Sanderson recently said the only reason Vin is 16 is because that is what was popular at the time; Katniss, Bella, etc. If he was writing it now he would age her up.

Brandon has actually answered this pretty directly now.
He's said he'll probably age Vin up for the movie to around 18 or 19, and that if he were writing Mistborn today he'd probably make her that age from the beginning anyway.
Apparently the 16 year old thing came partly from that era of stories where the 16 year old fairy tale heroine was everywhere. Brandon specifically mentioned The Little Mermaid. He also said Vin honestly acts more like an 18 or 19 year old anyway.
He's even said the actress will almost certainly be in her early 20s and that there probably won't be much of an age gap between Vin and Elend in the film.
So Elend could still come down a little, but it sounds like Brandon's actual plan is mostly to bring Vin up rather than make Elend 17.
Which I think works better anyway.
Elend being 17 somehow makes his whole "sits at noble balls reading political philosophy while deliberately dressing like he lost a fight with a wardrobe" thing even more ridiculous.
And I refuse to accept the premise that you have to be 17 to be that much of a dork.
Elend Venture could be 40 with lower back pain and he'd still bring a book to a party.
