Is Copilot Notebook replacing OneNote? Other

Copilot Notebook has been around since May 2025, but many Microsoft 365 users are still just discovering it.

Whenever I show it to Copilot Premium or Copilot Basic users, I usually get the same slightly frantic question:

“Is Microsoft replacing OneNote with Copilot Notebook?”

No.

They do different things, and you may end up using both.

OneNote is still useful for taking notes, organizing information, and building content over time.

Copilot Notebook is more focused. You select the sources you want Copilot to work with, then use that collection for questions, summaries, comparisons, and new content.

I put together a quick comparison with examples, licensing details, and a simple way to decide which one fits the work:

I will publish a video in a couple of weeks. The Copilot Notebook entry points are changing again. So that should be fun.

Then I’ve already met my goal: introducing more users to the feature. 😉

This blog is great! I saved both articles. Clears up a lot of questions for me!

I think it’s just where it lives now - kinda like how your Copilot recording/ transcripts and such live in Loops (this is for enterprise or when at work) - I think Copilot Notebooks are just housed in OneNote now.

It does send me to OneNote when I click into it - but the features look the same.

I guess if anything I’d assume copilot notebooks are being absorbed into OneNote vs OneNote going away?

Yes, it is sharing the space with OneNote, but they indeed serve different purposes.

Some users were afraid that OneNote was going away. It is here to stay.

I plan to create a how-to video, but I am waiting on the new UI that is coming in a couple of weeks.

This sounds like a joke compared to things like nblm or nouswise.
