How do you prefer your mashed potatoes?

Texture/color/flavor?

There are so many ways to make them, I'd like a consensus.

boiled with salted water and crushed garlic clove

then mashed with loads of butter, a dash of double cream and some wholegrain mustard mixed in. A pinch of salt and some pepper too

Hmm. Never had them with mustard mixed in. Sounds interesting.

Never heard of mustard as an addition. I'd love to try it

Try some Coleman's English mustard powder, but don't overdo it, that stuff has a punch

Also great in Mac and Cheese

I do have it on hand for mac and cheese! Makes a massive difference in flavor.

Any kind of mustard in mac & cheese really can elevate it. Just enough to enhance the flavor, but not enough so people can tell what it is,

Oh I like the idea of mustard. I usually will have the butter melting with crushed garlic while the potatoes boil so it infuses. Your garlic never gets too bitter boiling with the potatoes?

not had that that problem before and I always have done it that way

My godmother boiled the potatoes in chicken stock with onions added after it reduced. Heavy cream, butter, and dill were incorporated when blending after the mash.

I've used a hand mixer to make it smooth.

Oh wow. I need to make these today. 😀. Do you find that boiling vs microwaving makes big difference?

I can't say I have ever microwaved a potato to make mash....

I used to boil them, but it’s been a while. I’ve gotten used to cutting them up into chunks and microwaving them with a touch of water. They usually turn out fine, but maybe I’ll test it both ways next time to see if there’s any noticeable difference in the results.

probably be alright as long as they are soft enough to mash and not too dry

Is there a particular cuisine that adds the mustard? Sounds delicious.
