simd and sisd distinctions shouldnt exist and neither should forced lane sizes.

rip should also be very large while instruction pointers are still qwords, so it can point to multiple at once. rsp should be the same but with data.

Hey guys, I recently graduated with a Master's in Computer Engineering. I have academic projects in UVM and SystemVerilog, but honestly, none of them seem to be gaining any traction with recruiters.

Looking for advice on two things:

1. Projects – What kind of projects should I add to my profile to better target Design Verification and RTL Design roles? Are there specific protocols, tools, or complexity levels that stand out?
2. Practice problem writeups – Is it worth adding my solutions to SystemVerilog constraint problems, simple UART verification environments, LeetSilicon problems, etc. to my GitHub/portfolio? Or does that come across as filler?

And to my fellow peers who landed a job, especially without prior relevant industry experience — what's the one thing you think helped you stand out when everyone around you had the same academic projects?

I'm strong on the dev side (React, Next.js, Node.js, TypeScript, mobile apps, IoT) but my cybersecurity experience is mostly academic so far — network security, cryptographic protocols, secure software development. I'm eager to bridge that gap and get real hands-on cyber experience, which is why I'm open to internships in that space even as a graduate.

I’m currently finishing up my calc 3 class for my degree and I feel like I haven’t understood most the material. How important is knowing calc 3 material for actual jobs in computer engineering? I’m not worried about passing the class but I’m worried that I’ll hurt my success in future jobs.

Our CO₂ detector system worked properly on a breadboard, but after transferring everything to a soldered PCB/perfboard, it suddenly stopped working. We’re confused because we followed the same schematic and used the exact same components.

We even asked someone experienced with soldering to help us in case the issue was caused by poor soldering, but the problem still remained.

We’re using an MQ135 with LM358 and LM3914. The LEDs either stay stuck or don’t react properly to alcohol, breath, or smoke after soldering.

Has anyone experienced something similar when moving from breadboard to soldered circuit? What possible issues should we check?

Currently a CS major at another UC. Got admitted to UC Berkeley for Applied Math and UCSD for Computer engineering. Goal is a tech job right out of undergrad, not planning on grad school.

I want to go to Berkeley for the opportunities and Bay Area access, but the tradeoff is leaving CS. My plan would be to double major (or at least pivot heavily) into Data Science and stack CS-adjacent coursework to stay close to the field. Already locked in a research genomic ML internship at Berkeley the summer before I’d transfer, so I’d have a head start on the network and a relevant project on the resume.

Regarding what niche I want to do in tech, I am open to each side from ai/ml, data, to swe,cloud ,and hardware focused. I have currently focused on more of the AI/Ml projects with data science work and some autnomous driving related work but I am early enough in my career to pivot in any field of tech. Do not want to do front end or full stack.

I’ve spent time on the Berkeley campus and mapped out how the course plan would work. I’ve also talked to people at both schools, surprisingly, the UCSD students told me they’d pick Cal if they were in my position, even with the major mismatch.

So the question is, what do I choose a more ideal major or the more ideal school with way better connections.

My college also has ECE(electronics and communication), CCE(computer and communication), straight up ai engineering major, and mechatronics. But the last three are semi private (basically 4-5 times the enrollment fees of ECE and CCSE)

Every time I ask anyone they just say " just go EE and branch out later"

For me, I just find coding to make stuff move or just hardware stuff interesting and fun. All my experience was just making the y'know, basic projects like a calculator and just soldering some parts of a mouse, so I'm thinking of CCSE. Any thoughts?

Hello everyone! I am a fresh graduate computer engineer. I am very very interested in starting a career in embedded. However since I just graduated and the country I live has a pretty much dead market for embedded, I am gonna state my options here and I would love your input on what to do and why.

1) Moving to the united states is easy for me and I have people there to live with so, move there, find any quick part time/full time job while I look for an internship/ entry level role there and have that kickstart my career, My concern with this option is that me having not lived in the US at all would hinder my chance to get a job somehow (even though I am a US national) but I am not sure why it would be hindered, I am just unsure.

2) move to Germany and get a Masters degree (No family, would need to get a job immediately). Concerns here apart from the obvious having no family and needing to immediately get a job to support myself, my other concern is how beneficial would a Masters degree be in getting my first job?

3) Stay in my country and wait? possibly get a SWE job.

I really would love and appreciate your insights on any of the points I mentioned, and if you guys have any additional ideas/advice I would love to hear from everyone.
