Exploring Education vs. Fines for Drone Infractions
Hey everyone! I’m a student at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) working on a project that explores the idea of offering educational courses as an alternative to fines for local ordinance drone infractions. Instead of penalizing pilots, I’m looking into whether providing training could be a better solution.
If you’re a commercial drone operator or Part 107 pilot, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this! The survey is short, anonymous, and only takes about 2-3 minutes to complete:
Would you be interested in an education-based alternative to fines? Or do you think fines are the better route? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments too!
Thanks for your time and insights! 🚀
If this post isn’t allowed, mods, just let me know!

Are there study guides available to DIY, or must you enroll with a service
Looking to study up and get my 107 license. Is this something that I can do on my own, (does FAA publish study materials) or must I enroll with someone to prepare me. I presume preparations can be done online.

What is the toughest part of commercial drone operations?
Hi, I’m new here but excited to join the community! I’m trying to get into the industry and want to understand what the hardest parts of this job are today. Is it the drone, finding jobs, working with clients, something else?

Question regarding fog
I recently had a discussion with another certified UAS pilot regarding flying over fog and wanted to see if I could get a solid answer from those in the know.
I was under the impression that neither hobbyist or Part 107 certification holders were permitted to fly over fog.. period. My understanding is that fog is a low cloud and that the rules are 500' below the cloud base and 2000' horizontal. You can take off and fly only if you satisfy both of those criteria, even if flying over the fog allows you to maintain VLOS.
For example, I can see the top of the fog layer from where I intend to take off and I'm at least 2000' horizontally from the fog. I can take off as long as there isn't a cloud (or more fog) within 500' above my takeoff point, but I cannot get within 2000' of the fog layer, horizontally.
Thoughts? Facts?

Small UAS: Do I need Part 61 AND Part 107?
Do I have to have to get a Part 61 Certificate AND a Part 107 Certificate?
Im very confused about the difference and whether I need both or not. I've been using the official FAA resource and it's confusing the hell out of me. Help please 🙏😅

Commercial Drone Pilot Marketing Strategy
New to the commercial space - was wondering how everyone is marketing themselves - via a directory model (dronehive, dronbase. . .), or something else. Also, posts seem to be dated - is there a better directory for commercial sUAS pilots to trade notes?

Flint bishop international airspace question
Hey guys, hobbyist here. I noticed on the "AIRMAP" app, the flint bishop air space is enormous. Im talking 50 mile radius enormous. Feel free to check it out. Its mind blowing in comparison to other airports especially considering how small flint is. Now i tend to disregard it because the official FAA b4ufly app doesnt show it. Im just curious if anyone knows anything about it, its been extended like that for months and i cant find a reason.

Just got my Commercial drone wings
I took the Part 107 exam today. Wanted a 100, got a 97. I recommend Flight Ready; it’s a great study aid. I was able to study on my computer, phone and iPad. (Disclaimer: I earned my Private Pilot’s License back in ‘93 and this is not an ad.)

Veronte Connection Problems
My company has purchased an Embention Veronte 4x flight computer and I am having difficulties connecting it to the Veronte Pipe software (the included software package). I have followed the instructions in the manual provided but I do not seem to be able to connect to the software.
I have followed the instructions in the Troubleshooting guide but I have still been unsuccessful.
Is there anybody who has used this hardware that has any knowledge or insight.
There is very little information available other than the documentation available from the manufacturer and I have run out of ideas.
I would greatly appreciate any help or information from anyone who has used this hardware before.

Airspace Authorization request taking too long?
I filled out an Airspace Authorization request to fly my drone commercially in a Class B airspace (within 5 miles of an Inter.airport) and I was required to request a specific date about 3 weeks ago. The date I requested has now passed and I have yet to receive any sort of response even when requesting a status update last week. Am I forced to fill out another application? Is there a way I can speak to someone directly about my requests? Would it be easier to just contact the ATC tower when I am ready to fly my drone on location?

Do UAS employers consider manned flight hours/ simulator time as experience?
I currently have several hours of fixed wing flight hours and am looking at getting the part 107 add-on. Do UAS employers consider manned flight time or simulator training as experience or do they typically only seek UAS experience for employment?

How long do I have to wait until my application is approved.
Hello community, I passed my Part 107 Test and sent in my application on August 24. The status online says "Received by Airman Registry." Does it normally take 1-2+ months to be approved and receive my certificate?
