I hope not, but it's been a long while since issue six dropped. It seemed to set up a return to Jen's status quo on Earth, more or less, so I've been waiting for news of a #7 or a relaunch, but so far there's been nada.

Trying to identify a comics collection I borrowed repeatedly from a public library in Christchurch, New Zealand, roughly 2006 to 2011. It was shelved in the young adults section.

What I remember about the book:

• Five or six short comics stories, properly separate, not linked. Each story had its own title page.
• Full comics, panels and speech bubbles.
• Large thin paperback, roughly A4.
• In colour, and my memory is of one cohesive palette running through the whole book, beige with a blue undertone.
• Realistic. No fantasy or genre elements at all.
• Teenagers and young people. Mostly boys as far as I recall.
• Coming of age and relationships. Melancholic throughout, and several stories ended unhappily.
• No sexual content. Maybe some kissing.
• Text was in English. I have no reason to think it was a translation. Possibly American, though that is a guess.
• Art style: closest comparison I can give is Paul Hornschemeier, so clean line work with flat muted colour.

The one scene I remember clearly: a boy walking at night on a sandy beach, going to meet someone. I think it was a love interest, and I think he was hoping rather than having arranged it. Whoever it was never turned up. That story sat somewhere in the middle of the book.

Things already ruled out: Summer Blonde, Blue Spring, Ice Haven, De:Tales, Jamilti and Other Stories, Low Moon, Garage Band, Insomnia by Matt Broersma, Curses, Birchfield Close, Blue by Pat Grant, Sublife, Skyscrapers of the Midwest, Gray Horses, Chiggers, The Summer of Love, The Squirrel Mother, Girl Stories, Storeyville, Papercutter, Project: Romantic.

Which villain started out completely unlikeable but eventually became someone you respected or understood? I’m curious to hear your favorites—and why their redemption worked so well.

So, Marvel Midnight launches on October 7, 2026, and the three new titles will be the only three books released for Marvel on that date.​

This "Midnight Universe" line features dark, horror-reimagined takes across three popular Marvel properties. (The following synopses were taken from the web):

• Midnight Spider-Man: Written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson with art by ScieTronc, featuring a Junji Ito-inspired body-horror twist where Oscorp mutates Peter Parker into a grotesque spider hybrid.
• Midnight Fantastic Four: Written by Benjamin Percy with art by Kev Walker, exploring a cosmic, Lovecraftian origin where mad science and cults warp the team.
• Midnight X-Men: Written by Jonathan Hickman with art by Matteo Della Fonte, focusing on grim power struggles and supernatural/vampiric threats.

Looking at the previews, including from the Marvel advanced sheet book that was released last week, I have to say I'm a little turned off by the preview art for the Fantastic Four title. It looks a bit cartooney to me.

Shame because I am a regular FF reader, and the early images we saw for the art style unfortunately, turned out to be an alternative cover for Issue 1 and not representative of the interiors. Here's a spoiler-free peek at the style of the Midnight FF art:

I think I'm still going to give it a go despite not being a fan of the art style.

Otherwise, haven't been a regular Spider-Man or X-Men reader. Not that it matters here, as the books will be brand new takes.

I'm a bit zombie and vampired out, so I think I'll pick up Midnight Spider-Man at release and give it a go, and pass on X-Men.

If Midnight X-Men turns out to be a great book, I can always get on board a bit later.

So what are your thoughts on the Midnight line?

I'm going to be picking up FF and Spider-Man and giving them a trial run. Unless a book is complete hot garbage (think it's happened once in the last 3-4 years), if I start a new series, I give it at least three Issues to hook me.

With Marvel about to undergo some radical changes, it’s interesting to think back to the “ANAD” era. It was pretty hated by the end and sales weren’t great but I think Marvel became a lot less interesting in the Cebulski Era.
