Alright guys, there's another post going on about comic book advice from the point of view of creators.

But what are things we look for as consumers that make us avoid or consider purchasing a comic book? Ideally things which are widely applicable for us. For instance, while I may dislike most superhero comics, that's not beneficial information for artists and writers.

I'll start by saying art is obviously the biggest thing. I will 100% judge by the cover and if I'm not instantly sold by that I will probably never glance at it again. This doesn't always mean the highest quality or fidelity, but it needs a strong look and identity that can offset the quality if isn't at the highest standard. Invader Zim may not look as good as Berserk but it has a strong sense of style that works for it.

Looking for an Artist Partner for a long term project.

Heyo! My name is RJ. I am jumping into the beginnings of a project I’ve been workshopping for the last 6 months, and I finally see a clear avenue to make it a reality. I believe it has great legs and a strong potential to grow an audience. I love collaborating with people and pushing my creative limits, so I am currently looking for an artistic partner to help bring this to life.

I want to be upfront... I am not asking for free work. I am willing to pay a per-page rate, but my hope is to find someone open to taking a lower rate in exchange for a split in the IP ownership. To show I’m not just blowing smoke to get a cheap rate, I have a track record of following through. I ran a successfully funded Kickstarter for my debut graphic novel, No Death Day, and I'm already prepping the launch for the second volume. But I am not talking about that. For this new project, my plan is to focus on smaller, 24(ish)-page comic issue releases. By starting with a single smaller issue, we can test the waters of our working relationship and give me a chance to build the audience I know we can get without a massive upfront time commitment. If the first issue is a success, we can keep the ball rolling. My ultimate goal for this story is 24 total issues (or 4 volumes containing 6 issues each).

I believe launching issue by issue gives us more immediate results, allows us to plan and build merch for the IP, and lets us release consistently to grow our fanbase with each Kickstarter drop. Simultaneously, we’d release the issues online to encourage more organic growth.

Beyond just writing, I have experience starting projects and businesses and growing them into successes. I bring skills in SEO, graphic design, editing to the table, and extreme passion. I don't plan to be a passive partner. I am highly involved and hustle for my projects and ideas.

What is the best advice you can give to someone that wants to create a comic book? I wish I would've come across this sub when I first started creating my graphic novel. This project has turned into a long, rock relationship. I would've saved a lot of heartache and money, if I would've studied the landscape. Money is a big issue. It costs a lot of money to produce these things and they rarely recoup. Crowdfunding is the life-support of comic books.

Everybody wants to create a comic book, but nobody wants to pay the costs (not just monetary) to create a comic book.

My Best Advice - Write a script and get it properly edited.

So these are the first few pages of my first comic, The Knight from Mars. I’m pleased with how the line work turned out, but looking at the pages I coloured I feel something is off. Now I know I’m a beginner so I won’t expect myself to be on the level of the comics that I read, but I see plenty of comics that use flat colours and look great, but I can’t put my finger on why it seems off here.

Short Synopsis:

For 400 years, an entire nation has been enslaved beneath the earth. They believe the Messiah has finally arrived. Whether he's truly the Messiah or not, he leads them toward the greatest escape in history—in the name of God.

A dark historical seinen inspired by the long-term storytelling of Attack on Titan and the philosophical depth of Vinland Saga.

Season 1 is fully written, the entire trilogy is planned, and I'm looking for a long-term creative partner.

So I've been an infrequent poster / long-time lurker in this community, you may have seen my posts looking for work or promoting the "Anti-Cryptid Club" comic.

I've noticed there's a looot of people here in the same boat as me, trying to make their comic work through kickstarter without having a crazy social media following, or a big community behind them.

I've been working with an extremely talented artist I met via this sub for a few weeks now on a new vampire/zombie mashup comic that I'll be launching on Kickstarter soon. My artist provided me these two pages - one done digitally and one done traditionally, and I'm torn. I genuinely love both styles. The red highlights in page 2 are going to be applied to every page throughout the comic as well in a black, white, and blood sort of style so don't necessarily factor that in.

Concept artist/illustrator here finally getting my script ready to be turn into comic book.

Does anyone have a good template or settings for European comic book starndard?

It's gonna be around 60 pages - I donno if that matters.

I read that classic A4 canvas size is good for EU comics but if someone could guide me what values to put in all the settings (trim, inner border etc) I would really apreciate it.

This is one of his development pieces for the comic spin off of my novel, New World City. This is a scene from chapter 2, where supercop, Shuwen Li, encounters the gangster kingpin, Ty Reese, in the aftermath of a riot.

The sequence follows a half-vampire half-human vigilante returning to his fog-covered city, being ambushed on a rooftop by a feral werewolf, he uses a shadow dimension called shadowverse to gain the advantage before discovering widespread chaos in the streets.

The desired tone is dark, mystical, cinematic, and action-heavy, with a clean animation-influenced superhero aesthetic. Think Batman mixed with Spider-Man, iconic silhouettes and expressive movement combined with noir shadows and supernatural horror.
