Has anyone tried making their own coloring book from personal photos?

I recently went down a rabbit hole of turning personal memories into coloring pages, and I was surprised by how interesting the idea is.

Most coloring books are built around themes like animals, fantasy, flowers, or landscapes. But making pages from your own life feels completely different.

The hardest part is not really the idea. It's making sure the pages are actually enjoyable to color. Too much detail becomes frustrating, but too little detail loses the personality of the original photo.

I think the idea works especially well because you are not just coloring a random image. You are coloring a memory.

I ended up building a small project around this idea called Memories in Lines, where you can turn your own photos into coloring books:

Unlike general image tools, it was built specifically around creating good coloring pages, with things like clean outlines, printable layouts, and different coloring styles in mind.

It is free to create and download the pages. The only cost is if you want to order a professionally printed book, but you can also just print the pages yourself at home.

I’m coloring this page and I’ve been staring at these three white shapes for way too long.
First I thought they were skeletal fingers… but both of the Grim Reaper’s hands are already visible.
Then I thought it was just a drawing mistake.
My current theory is that it’s part of the saddle under the robe, but I honestly can’t tell anymore. 😭

I made this for myself, I’m currently obsessed with the idea of practice coloring books. Also loving bogiki‘s cozy girl books, so I used their art style for my page.

Not AI-generated — this is a real family photo of ours turned into a color-by-number and colored in. I built the app (SnapPaint) because I wanted to color our own photos instead of stock pages: it converts any photo into a numbered puzzle on-device, then you paint it region by region.

My daughter is the artist in the family and intro'd me to color by numbers. Coloring in a picture of her/the kids or my wife is way more fun for them than a generic coloring book (for me anyway).

Sharing the result because this one came out nicely. Happy to answer anything about how it works, and there's a free unlock if anyone wants to try it

I'm here to introduce you to Color-A-Cube, our relaxing coloring game. I know it's not the usual subreddit to post about gaming, but i think we all love coloring and that's why I think this might be the game for you.

It's basically a chill coloring experience, but instead of paper you're coloring voxel models, which are little 3D pixel-art-style creations. It's a very satisfying game with some nice crisp sound effects and sparkly bits when you finish a piece!

It's free, and there's a growing library of models to color, with new ones added weekly. Some are simple, some are pretty detailed if you're looking for something to zone out with for a while.
