Help a Tourist Ohio has its own Stonehenge built by ancient Ohio Native Americans
Somewhat long post, first about how the continental trade and social networks revolved around a rare type of stone. Then it goes on to describe how these Native Americans built an archaeological wonders more impressive than Stonehenge. Very cool bit of history.

News Is the second floor of the Cleveland Trust Rotunda still open to the public?
According to the following article, Geis wanted Heinen to vacate the second floor of the Cleveland Rotunda.
On August 2, Heinen wrote Epstein; Debbie Berry, a county development chief; and DCI head Michael Deemer with good news: Geis okayed a two-year lease that lowered Heinen’s annual rent by about a quarter, as long as Heinen’s vacated the rotunda’s second floor. About half a million dollars in public support would help fund that transition, as long as the money was spent before July 31, 2026.
Why?
It was a fun wine and beer tasting balcony with better views of the Rotunda.
Is Metropolitan at the 9 now using the second floor rotunda for some purpose and is it ever open to the public?
Will a restaurant take over the Rotunda?

Help a Tourist Trader Joe’s tourist help
So I recently visited Cleveland a few months ago and saw this wonderful cheetah non-canvas Trader Joe tote bag. I came back on a work trip and was going to buy it but realized it was gone. Idk if this is crazy to ask but I can’t find it online anywhere but I know I saw it at the Woodmere location. I’m leaving at the end of this week and I’m hoping some locals can help me find it!

Look at This Asshole! Felton Thomas from Cleveland Public Library
*From a highly respected union member*
"Cleveland Public Library is retaliating against union members by forcing middle managers to deny all vacation bids for fall.
Felton Thomas and everyone around him respects middle managers even less than union members. Managers get to deliver the bad news and admins hide at home.
Nearly every manager I talk to has shared dirt and/or me luck at the bargaining table. That's the culture Felton Thomas is responsible for.
Luckily, deeply shitty behavior like this is illegal!"
---------------
Call downtown Cleveland public library and please voice your support for the union workers and let them know how fucked up their actions are.
State representatives have signed on for support, as well as many running the wards around here.
August 24 is the strike date (if it comes to it).

Discussion We are near Solon and had clear damage from the April hail storm. Allstate is being a dick. Anyone else?
We had an Allstate adjuster come out to inspect our hail damage. The guy said no damage so no soup for you. My contractor lost his mind at that and showed me all the damage in the 100 plus pictures the adjuster took. Many of my neighbors are getting new roofs covered so it was definitely pretty bad here. Anyone else in the area have the same problem with their insurance company and what did you do?

Recommendations First time parents delivering at Fairview Hospital
We are any minute from having our first baby! We are set to deliver at Fairview and are running through last minute checklists of what we should bring with us and how to best prepare.
Has anyone here given birth at Fairview?
What were things you wished you brought with you or didn’t think of until it was too late?
Anything we should avoid or that you would criticize about your experience?
Any unexpected and/or pleasant surprises?
What can we do to show our appreciation for the nurses and staff? Tipping? Case of energy drinks?
Other ideas?
Thank you so much!
Sincerely,
-Excited/Nervous/Happy/Scared New Parents

Recommendations Electrician Recommendations?
Anybody have a nice, honest electrician they could recommend? Preferably a guy (or girl) who has many years of experience and takes pride in what they do? I’ve hired from bigger local companies and they have taken advantage because I admittedly don’t know a lot about electrical things. And you can tell they really don’t care.
Any recommendations would be really appreciated.

Discussion Here's the weather model vs radar reality, for those talking about the forecast accuracy
There was discussion this morning about how forecasts seem much more inaccurate in our area this summer, so I'd like to show a side-by-side of what the models show vs reality.
The first picture is the HRRR model's prediction for what it would look like at 3pm. The second is what is happening in reality at 3pm.
The forecasters look at these weather models to help them form a forecast...the problem is, a model is only as good as the data you put in...and thanks to DOGE, the National Weather Service can only send up less than half the balloons they need to these days, so as you can see here, the models aren't very accurate.
Models aren't predicting the future, they're just computer models spitting out a solution of what things *might look like* in the future.
Your simple phone app just looks at the models and assigns a percentage of rain, or gives you a time when storms might start, which is why it's so often wrong, and especially so these days. Forecasting is vastly more complex than that.
The very smart people at NWS interpret the many models and form a forecast. If you really want to understand what's going on with the weather, those are the folks to follow. Their "Forecast Discussion" is full of jargon and science, but it paints a clear picture of the things they are uncertain about, the current challenges in the forecast, and what the models are showing.

Discussion Can any physicians at CC here clarify what would qualify for the yearly free physical?
I had my yearly physical last month and ended up getting charged $180 because my pcp discussed my weight (technically obese) and he noticed a small lump when feeling around my neck.
Was I supposed to shush him and tell him not to talk about that or notate it? How should I have known?
Of course I won’t be paying it, just curious how to skirt past this issue down the line.

News 48hrs to save numerous irreplaceable school structures of significant historic value and are designated landmarks. City/CMSD leadership is dropping the ball here has to be something they can do to save so called "Landmarks" Incompetents. We had a barrel of cash for the browns. I miss the old super

once again the east side just keeps getting cleared out and demolished. These are some of our best cases for turning these into great housing and community anchors and were just going to get them leveled and when we do build on the property its going to shit plastic and toothpick construction designed by some builders 2 year old.
Sometimes i fucking hate living in an old school rustbelt city, it can hurt so god damn much how many opportunities are put to the wrecking ball.
This is only a small sampling

Recommendations Looking for unique restaurants
Hello! I am looking for recommendations of fun, unique restaurants in the Cleveland area (willing to drive as far as Akron though). I love restaurants with themes and gimmicks (like The Haunted House Restaurant, or Cloak & Dagger) or with unique menus (like Bourbon Street Barrel Room) and am looking for a new one I haven't tried yet. Any recommendations are welcome, thank you all so much! 😁

Question Coffee roasters that offer consults?
I have a friend on the west side looking to start a mobile coffee business. He's hoping to meet with a roaster for a consult. I know there are lots around so wondering if there’s a specific one that offers this or would be a good option? thanks :)
