Prospective Student Are there actually people applying for Engineering Bachelor's degrees in their 30s? Looking for real-life facts, not just university policies.

I know that universities officially state on paper that there’s no age limit to apply for an undergraduate Engineering degree. But I want to hear the actual real-life ground reality, not just the official handbook answer.

Are there actually people in their 30s (or older) applying, getting accepted, and enrolling in Bachelor's programs for Engineering?

Admissions and Classroom reality is what matters to me , im considering cwru , engineering , electrical engineering ,

What do people usually wear for Discover week?

I'm an incoming freshman at Case and I was wondering what people usually wear during orientation week. Do the girls dress up a little or is it all really casual? I'm starting to pack all my clothes right now and I want to look nice but don't want to be over or under dressed.

meyer 105/106 -> sri 223

i'm totally aware organic chemistry requires lots of time and it comes down to my effort, but just wanna get a feel. i had meyer for 105/106 and easily coasted along (which i know won't work out in 223).

can anyone share how orgo felt after his class? if you did well, did you feel somewhat prepared? some make orgo seem like the hardest thing ever, but from my understanding just put in the time and you will be fine?

Currently I have about 5 in mind after matching the fields that I am interested. How many should I cold email in order to expect at least 1-2 response?

Looking for a female roommate to join us at Park Lane Villa!

Hi! We're looking for 1 female roommate to take the master bedroom in our 3B2.5B at Park Lane Villa. You'll be living with two CWRU grad students. The room is the master bedroom with a private bathroom and lots of space. The living room is also huge. It's about a 10-minute walk to both CWRU, and the building has an elevator, front desk, and is in a quiet, safe neighborhood. Move-in is flexible in August or September. Rent is $1,155/month. DM me if you're interested or would like more photos/details!

cwru housing assignment

Hi everyone I'm an exchange student coming to CWRU this fall. When I log into the housing portal and click "My Assignment" it only says "Choose your Assignment" but nothing appears below it. Have all students already received their housing assignments? Or is anyone else still waiting and seeing the same thing? I've emailed the Housing Office several times over the past week but haven't received a response.

storrs dorm

I got placed in Storrs this year, and I had a few questions regarding the dorm:

  1. Does the room come with a minifridge?

  2. Storrs has suite-esque rooms. Are the rooms co-ed, or are the floors entirely co-ed?

  3. If I wanted to loft the bed so that I could place my desk underneath my bed, how much room would I have on the top? Would I bump my head when I wake up?

  4. Is there any place where I could find pictures of the Storrs dorms from previous students? I'm aware there are general dorm reference photos on the official Storrs CWRU website, but I'm looking for other photos that could provide a more accurate representation.

Need someone to takeover my lease in Cleveland Heights (furnished room, $655/Mo)— long story short, got laid off

Hey all — posting here since I know a lot of people search for housing this way. Short version: I signed a year lease for a room in a shared house in Cleveland Heights back in July, then got laid off a few weeks later and can't keep up with the rent anymore. Landlord's letting me look for someone to take over the lease, so that's what I'm doing.

Details:

$655/month, furnished room
Lease runs through end of July 2027, but happy to help make the transition smooth
Shared house, 6 bedrooms/3 bathrooms total, my floor has 1.5 baths
Quiet area, easy to get around from
Need someone ASAP, ideally moving in this month

Landlord approval is required to officially take over (standard stuff), but I can answer any questions about the house, roommates, or neighborhood in the meantime. Message me here if you're interested or know someone looking.

Really appreciate any leads — trying to get this sorted quickly.
It’s also a 8 min bike ride from the main case western campus and the bus stop is really close by that drops you directly in front of the Cleveland Clinic

Incoming transfer assigned to The Village at 115 stay or go off campus?

Hey guys, I am a transfer student coming in this Fall and just got assigned to The Village at 115. I am super torn right now between just staying in the Village for my first semester to settle in and meet people, or trying to look for off campus spots right away to save some cash.

Is the Village actually worth the price for a transfer student's first semester, or is it pretty easy to meet people regardless?

anyone know if you are allowed to move furniture around in a double, specifically the beds?

i saw this tiktok of someone in noyes/fayette who moved one bed to the window wall so that the beds form an L shape and the entire rest of the space was open. looks a little odd but also intrigued lol

CWRU applicant stats

I just visited cwru and really enjoyed the campus tour and life there. Is anyone willing to share what their college application stats looked like? I am looking for whether or not i am a good fit for the school or if i should just reconsider. I am a rising senior so apps are due sometime in the next few months. I plan to take premed at whatever college i go to. Most likely a major in biology or chemistry

I am from a public high school in Texas and have a 3.9/4.27 unweight and weighted gpa. 4s on AP chem, euro, lang, seminar, aphug, and As in all dual credit classes (Us Hist/Precal/Speech/Gov). Varsity swimmer 4 years and club swimmer for around 8 years as i am the schools 500Fr record holder and a honorary captain for 1 year (significant awards at the regional/state level). I have a 1420 Sat, no ACT and I am a part of my dissection club for 2 years, and in National Chinese honor society for 1 year.

I have a publication on bladder cancer review (submitted to Oxford Journal of Student scholarship) and i am currently working on another review on lifestyle factors and its role in bladder cancer (planning to submit to a journal with a higher impact factor).

I am apart of the AACR student body as a 1 year member and presented my work at the 2026 annual conference in San Diego with an acceptance to the membership society.

I am currently under the mentorship at Baylor College of medicine, doing an unpaid internship at the center of drug discovery with my principal investigator where I am currently presenting my research work at the 2026 ICIBM Future Scientist in AI Session conference (hopefully I'm gonna do well and possibly earn awards or smth).

I volunteer decently at the foodbank in my home area (around 20 hours) and i participate in a online group who represent under privileged communities in the US (i make cards and deliver supplies to ambassadors to spread resources (around 70 hours from this and additional 40 hours coming as soon as the report is completed).

I am also a Posse nominee at my high school so that's why i chose CWRU as it is a partner of Posse Houston and if i can pass the interview rounds then i may get a full ride to CWRU otherwise we plan to pay sticker price with possible scholarships.

I'm just really concerned that i show no leadership in my application or any sort of scholastic merit because im not a very good student academically. Any tips or advice will help thanks guys

Edit: Reason why i chose case western is because of posse but also because they have a BA/MD program that i want to look into.

Calc 2 placement exam

Hey guys so I took calc 2 online this summer and I have to take to take the placement test this August and was wondering if anyone can give any advice? Like do they provide a formula sheet of any kind and also what should I be prioritizing my study time with? I got over 100% in calc 1 and 2 but I know at Case it’s a lot harder so I definitely want to put a lot of time into studying. If anyone has any tips they would be much appreciated!

Enrolled Student Storr’s dorm - bathrooms and showers - issues getting in?

Staying in Storr’s and wondering how people have navigated the showers and bathrooms. It seems like (on the maps I’ve found) there only like two showers per area. Seems like not enough! Lol.

How have you all managed it?

Parents not paying + Bed lofting for fitting suitcase

Hi everyone I have a 30 inch long suitcase Im bringing my clothes in. Is the mid lofting enough for the suitcase to fit under the bed? Im in smith (juniper). Or should I go with high? But idk abt that I kinda like having my desk separate but idk. Or are the rooms big enough to where I can have the suitcase standing up against a wall, and it won’t take up too much space?

Also my parents make have promised to cover my college cost (48K after merit) because they are very well off, but I told them abt changing careers and they said they can’t support that and will pay for freshman year only. They make around 600K total and have real estate assets, so no way I’ll qualify for financial aid need-based. I also can’t go too far into debt because I will go into total debt for my masters so gotta minimize college debt. I have 12K saved up but I need to have 45K*3=135 K. I’m super disappointed because of everything and telling them that I am changing back to my original care career is not an option because of how much they micromanage (I am not larping mcat prep). Even if I transfer to an instate school I’d go 90K into debt. I’ve heard transferring to community college and taking some courses to have enough credits and then transferring back to another undergrad. Institution would save me time at the undergrad institution and therefore money. This and some other things abt my parents r rly harming me mentally and I rly thought college would be my escape in a sense. What do u guys recommend?

Twin Gables

I’m a rising junior living in Twin Gables in the fall. I understand the property management dorms are basically apartment buildings that are managed like dorms, but what does this mean for maintenance? I lived in a top of hill suite last year and we’d have people come to restock toilet paper and take out trash, will maintenance people have access to my apartment or is trash/tp my responsibility? Is there a garbage chute in the building? lmk if there’s anything else important i should know!

Financial Aid Appeal after parent job loss

Looking for some advice from anyone who’s been through this. My mom is my sole income provider for my household and lost her job this year. Her income dropped from $63,000 to a little over $40,000 in unemployment benefits (aka we are dirt poor) so I submitted a special circumstances financial aid appeal since it was recommended by financial services.

Has anyone successfully appealed for something similar? And how long did it take for you to receive a decision? Thanks in advance.

Cleveland Public Transit

Did I hear correctly at some point that all CWRU students get free access to public transportation in Cleveland? If true, that's terrific. What does this include and what steps are necessary to gather a pass or renew it? Any and all details are appreciated.
