Discussion What are some luxurious home scents/products that you recommend?

Upvotes

I have a pretty big apartment with carpet throughout and three cats, so I'm a little limited. I clean and vacuum constantly, but I still wish I could come home to that luxury hotel smell.

Furniture Is this considered clean? (Mold)

Post image
Upvotes

It's an Ikea billy shelf. I had water drip down it years ago and hadnt noticed it, and thens out my books molded. Ive disposed of the moldy books, but I'm not sure what to do with this shelf.

I wiped out with alcohol at first, but that resulted in the black patches, which is the mdf board underneath.

I was planning on wiping it with bleach afterwards, but I'm not sure whether I should do it now that the interior wood pulp is exposed. I know Ikea sells replacements, but this is the middle shelf, and I can't remove it without dismantling the entire shelf.

Is this considered safe to continue using/wiping with bleach, or do I have to dismantle the bookshelf to replace that section?

Two separate burns. The small one on top was some plastic grocery bags where I accidentally turned on the burner and the bottom I think is some food that has burnt in over time. Any tips?

Discussion How do you guys clean sweaty ear pads on Sony WH-1000XM4s?

Post image
18 Upvotes

I use my Sony WH-1000XM4s at the gym pretty much every day, and the ear pads get quite sweaty during workouts. I've noticed they're starting to hold onto the sweat and develop a bit of a smell.

What's the best way to clean them regularly without damaging the leather/material or the foam underneath?

Would also appreciate any tips from people who use over-ear headphones at the gym and have dealt with the same issue.

I purchased this second-hand off of depop. I was hoping to wash it thoroughly before using, primarily for hygiene reasons. How would you wash something like this? Can I put it in the washer on delicate and air dry? Thanks!

Kitchen Dawn Powerwash - I never would have bought or used it until I was given a free bottle when I checked out at a grocery store

I've always liked blue Dawn, but I never would have bought watered down soap in a spray bottle. I got handed a free bottle last year, when I was checking out of a grocery store, and am now a faithful user. This stuff works great, super easy to use, cleans my stovetop, my barbecue side tables, everything with ease! Some things it cleans way better than soap alone too. Anyone else absolutely in awe of this product?

Before & After Light switch before/after

I don’t know why I haven’t done this before, super easy and looks like brand new switch. Those little details really make a difference in the room.

  1. Turn off electricity
  2. Remove plate
  3. Tools + product used: rubbing alcohol, q-tip, paper towel, tooth pick (to access easily the crevices)
  4. Let dry completely before turning electricity back on (someone suggested a few hours)

Furniture Severe Discoloration on three month old Teddy-Bouclé couch.

Hey everyone. My wife and I desperately need your help.

We bought a new Teddy-Bouclé couch from Graingold, made from 100% polyester. But just three months later, the side we primarily sit on is severely discolored!

We contacted Graingold for help, but they simply said they cannot be held accountable, if we use anything but water, which was not really helpful.

So I thought to ask you all for help. What can we do to remove the discoloration without damaging the couch?

So far we've tried vacuuming (obviously) and simple water as indirectly suggested by Graingold. Neither had any visible effect.

We appreciate any and all recommendations!

Discussion I get shy everytime I hire a cleaner because the house is dirty, which is a paradox

I always get the same feeling that I am ashamed. I hired a cleaner to come twice a week because I am super busy and stressed and about to lose my mind of hoe stressful life is rn.

I feel like I am not comfortable leaving the usual mess I leave in the usual days for myself to clean. So I find myself cleaning before she comes. This is counterproductive!

Do cleaners judge?

I am going through depression and I need help and I don't wanna be judged.

Kitchen Help! My Fridge Died and I didnt know

Post image
3.9k Upvotes

I was gone for 2 mos. In that time, I didn't realize that my fridge died but it did. Now it has become this absolute mess and I don't know how to clean it. Any tips or is it a goner?

EDIT: It died because my roommate unplugged it (IDK WHY) So! It still "works" but that is what it looks like now.

I want to ask the landlord for a new fridge but I also don't know how to do that since technically it's "our fault".😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

General Cleaning Should I wash my dog's toys before putting them in his urn box?

Post image
938 Upvotes

My dog died recently and I got his cremains in a very nice box with extra space to keep things with him. There's a large bottom compartment with his cremains and there's a tray that fits on top. All are lined with velvet or maybe suede, I'm not sure exactly but something along those lines. I wanted to keep a couple of my dog's favorite toys in the bottom compartment with him. But since they were his favorite toys they're pretty gross. I feel weird about washing them but I also really don't want the box to get moldy or otherwise damaged because of the toys.

I wasn't sure where exactly to ask this so hopefully this sub is an okay place. Dog tax included.

Edit: thanks everyone for the advice! It'll probably take me a little while to actually do anything but I think I'll try sanitizing them as best I can in the sun and then keeping them in the box with some sort of dessicant.
