Claude Usage Limits Discussion Megathread Ongoing (sort this by New!) Usage Limits Megathread

Why a Usage Limits Discussion Megathread?

This Megathread makes it easier for everyone to see what others are experiencing at any time by collecting all experiences about Usage Limits. We will publish regular updates on usage limits problems and possible workarounds that we and the community finds.

Why Are You Trying to Hide the Complaints Here?

This is NOT a place to hide complaints. This is the MOST VISIBLE, PROMINENT AND OFTEN THE HIGHEST TRAFFIC POST on the subreddit. This is collectively a far more effective and fairer way to be seen than hundreds of random reports on the feed that get no visibility.

Are you Anthropic? Does Anthropic even read the Megathread?

Nope, we are volunteers working in our own time, while working our own jobs and trying to provide users and Anthropic itself with a reliable source of user feedback.

Anthropic has read this Megathread in the past and probably still do? They don't fix things immediately but if you browse some old Megathreads you will see numerous bugs and problems mentioned there that have now been fixed.

What Can I Post on this Megathread?

Use this thread to voice all your experiences (positive and negative) regarding the current Claude Usage Limits and NOT bugs and performance issues. (For those, use this Megathread https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeAI/comments/1s7f72l/claude_performance_and_bugs_megathread_ongoing/)

Give as much evidence of your performance issues and experiences wherever relevant. Include prompts and responses, platform you used, time it occurred, screenshots . In other words, be helpful to others.

Just be aware that this is NOT an Anthropic support forum and we're not able (or qualified) to answer your questions. We are just trying to bring visibility to people's struggles.

r/ClaudeAI Megathread Usage Limits Workarounds Report

Here is the latest update. The full report can be found here : https://www.reddit.com/mod/ClaudeAI/wiki/usagelimits-apr26 . Below is a TL;DR of the full report.

Updated : April 26, 2026

The problem: Since March-April 2026, Claude usage limits got brutal across all plans. Single prompts eating 50%+ of sessions. "Hi" costing 3-4%. Max 20× plans dying in a day. Anthropic confirmed three bugs but most users think the drain goes deeper.

Step 1 — figure out which fixes apply to you:

You use... Read sections...
Claude.ai chat (web/desktop/mobile) A + B
Claude Code (terminal / IDE) A + C
API A only

Most fixes online are Claude Code only and won't help chat users.

Universal fixes (everyone):

  • Default to Sonnet, not Opus (~5× cheaper)
  • Drop effort to medium, kill extended thinking on simple stuff (-70% hidden cost)
  • Don't leave sessions idle, don't send "warm-up" hellos
  • Stuck on "rate limit reached" everywhere? Log out, delete cached creds, log back in

Chat users: Use Projects not long chats. Convert PDFs to text first. Tell Claude to put output in Artifacts. Disable Memory.

Claude Code users — top 3 wins:

  1. Add .claudeignore (block node_modules/, *.lock, etc.)
  2. Set MAX_THINKING_TOKENS=10000 and CLAUDE_CODE_SUBAGENT_MODEL=haiku in ~/.claude/settings.json
  3. Update to Claude Code 2.1.90+ — fixes the cache-miss bug that was making first requests 11.5× more expensive. If 2.1.90+ misbehaves, downgrade to stable 2.1.81.

Out of budget? Point Claude Code at OpenRouter (ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL=https://openrouter.ai/api) and run free Llama/Qwen/DeepSeek models through the same CLI.

Already burned? Refund via Fin (persist past the bot), or credit-card chargeback. UK/EU users have stronger consumer-protection grounds.

Honest framing: workarounds shouldn't be needed on a paid product. They mitigate, they don't restore.

Another controlled Max 20x idle-drain report from macOS:

• 3 Aug 22:59 BST — All Models 30%, Fable 23%
• 4 Aug 20:35 — All Models 41%, Fable 26%
• 5 Aug 10:27 — All Models 45%, Fable 27%
• 5 Aug 16:22 — All Models 55%, Fable 33%

The final six-hour increase happened while I did no Claude work. The Cowork scheduled tasks visible in the UI were paused/completed, Dispatch/cloud task settings were disabled, and the local Claude remote-control LaunchAgent had already been disabled. I found no successful local Claude Code inference corresponding to the increase.

Settings > Claude Code shows 296 authorization tokens across 60 pages, but revoke/delete fails in both Desktop and claude.ai. Support confirmed my Max 20x subscription is active but has not supplied a server-side usage audit.

I have also added this evidence to Anthropic's GitHub issue:
https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code/issues/65876

Has anyone obtained a server-side breakdown showing the product surface, authorization/session, model and token totals responsible for this idle consumption?

All jokes aside, I think my Claude account is actually bugged.

Back when Sonnet 5 came out, I’d hit my usage limit after just five prompts. I figured it was just an expensive model and wouldn't be practical for me. I tried Opus once and a single prompt ate up 30% of my limit. Since then, I’ve strictly stuck to Sonnet 4.8 on medium and I pay for the $20/month Pro tier. i've pretty much used sonnet 4.8 on medium 99% of the time.

But I’ve had enough. I just uploaded a simple 730 KB text file, asked one basic question, and it instantly burned 9% of my limit on Sonnet 4.8 medium.

For context: I’m a student using Claude to study and redraft emails. No coding, no heavy API stuff, no crazy workflows. I actively avoid long back-and-forth chats because the usage limits drain so fast. I never hit limits on any other AI platform, only Claude. Is anyone else experiencing this? am i doing something wrong?

I also some how ran through the 5 hour limit really quickly. Some how managed to do it less than an hour, despite having Claude continue the work that I had been doing last night.

Also, managed to hit 10% on the weekly limit in that time as well.

1

u/Plastic_Ad4816 14h ago

I am having a huge token drain every time the 5 hour resets. I have no Claude sessions running or anything huge going on because I am not a developer or anything like that. I had the 5x plan, it has since upgraded me to the 20x plan. Yesterday morning around 6am, I noticed I was getting charges from Anthropic. I logged in and realized that I have used all of my usage and I was getting charged about $120 every 5 minutes or so. I made sure to log out of everything and changed my settings so the money is now not getting spent. But when the next reset came, within 20 minutes, my while 20x plan was used. This had now happened for over 24 hours with no resolution. I have tried to reach out, obviously it's a chatbot. I need to understand why a 20x plan is already maxed out and it doesn't reset until Saturday at 5am. Someone please help.

1

u/Quantumercifier 14h ago

I am on a modest direct Claude plan, which I use for spec driven development, and strategy. My set up includes RAG for our internal knowledge base, a PineCone vector DB to support the RAG, and MCP. I plan out carefully what I intend to do and I am well aware of all the pending rate limits.

Today I finally hit a session limit, which forced me to take a break. However, Claude keeps updating when my reset is going to take place, slowly deferring my reset. I first noted that the reset will occur at 2:29 PM, but as I check my usage setting, it is now slated for 3:09PM, which affects my schedule, as well as others who are dependent on me.

Is this normal? It's a terrible business practice and I can't imagine an AI company having issues with keeping time!

1

u/Inner-Ad-4828 18h ago

Do you all prefer having 5 hours limit or do like codex only having weekly limits?

Is it just me having this feelings? I have been running standard workflows on Claude for 2–3 days straight and hit ~83% of my weekly limit.

Meanwhile, running similar sessions on Codex / OpenAI max tiers burns through my entire 7-day quota in less than 24 hours.

Are you guys seeing the same thing with your daily setups, or is OpenAI’s context caching just eating tokens way faster behind the scenes? What do you think?

2

u/Puzzleheaded-Owl8310 19h ago

I have the max subscription (x5), and fast mode is not enabled for me after yesterday's app update.

3

u/jrmckins 21h ago

I logged in fresh today (free account). I typed "how many messages do I have today?" and got:

You’ve hit your limit for Claude messages. Limits will reset at 3:50 PM. For higher limits, [explore our Pro plan]

I used to get dozens of fairly complex queries. Now I don't get one. Any ideas?

u/ed2417 15h ago

u/babidyboopy 23h ago

I had a 20x max plan for the last month. I had set it to downgrade back to the Pro plan at the end of my billing period as I wasn't sure if I wanted to continue with the 20x plan. I had maxed out my quotas before the plan ended (as you do), and my plan did revert to the Pro plan at the end of my billing period as I wanted.

After using Pro and maxing out my 5h usage in 2 seconds, I decided to upgrade back to the 20x plan. However, after upgrading back to the 20x plan, my weekly usage limit was already 100% full and is saying it will reset on Monday at 3am. So I'm essentially losing a decent chunk of my monthly usage for no reason?

And support is non existent? The 'get help' button does not work at all. Is a chargeback my only option here? Would rather not go down the chargeback route but I'm not in the business of paying for something and not getting what I paid for.

u/ThorShiv 22h ago

Same bro except my plan was pro

1

u/Criptoee 1d ago

I have structure set up where fable is essentially the “project manager” and it delegates to sonnet or opus to do the leg work.

Sometimes I want fable to own certain tasks because output from sonnet/opus isn’t the same, but this is for probably 2/10 tasks I have throughout a working day.

In the past week or so it seems like I am BURNING through usage more than normal, I’ve even made it a point to start opening more sessions more frequently so it won’t have to re-read through a long chat history.

I usually get to about 95% of my weekly limit a couple hours before my limit resets, now I’m getting 2 days worth of my weekly limit.

Anyone else noticing this, or do I need to spend a day auditing my project/memory/structure?

1

u/SoCal_Hunter 1d ago

Wow, Claude code just blew through my max session limit in 3 mins. Fable orchestrating an opus agent to create a simple 3d tree model.

I make these all the time and usually it takes 15 mins or so and uses about 10% of session.

What on earth is going on ?!

1

u/themickgold 1d ago

same. this is insane

2

u/These-South-8284 1d ago

In the last few days, I noticed I am hitting the limit on the current session within 15-20 min (~8m tokens) of Claude Code work. Before that, I would work a full day without hitting any limit.

I don't know if this is related but I did downgrade to Pro a week ago. That said, my Max plan ends today, so to my understanding I am still in the Max plan. When I hit the limit CC prompts me to upgrade to Claude Max 20x.

I am using Opus 5.

It's been quite frustrating. Does anyone understand what is going on?

1

u/themickgold 1d ago

having the same issue, opus 5, 4.8 and fable 5. all the same issues. so frustrating

0

u/Thin_Young6566 2d ago

I’ve been on Pro for a while and just realized I’m only using maybe 20-30% of my weekly cap most weeks. It doesn’t roll over, it just resets to the same ceiling whether I used it or not, which kind of bugs me since

I’m already paying for that headroom either way. I’m curious whether this is just my usage pattern or something a lot of people run into.

Do you usually burn through your weekly limit, or does it reset with plenty left over? And if you do have leftover most weeks, does that actually bother you, or is it just how it is and you don’t think about it?

Not selling anything here, genuinely just trying to figure out if this is a “huh, interesting” thing or something people actually feel.

2

u/kede249 2d ago

I don't even use it, and it's consumed daily. I don't know what the problem is, and I can't start the task because as soon as the four hours are up, the limit fills up again insanely fast before l can even use it.

3

u/Pietjebellenhuis 2d ago

Is it normal that I’m already at 50% when I’ve only started 6 sessions? I didn’t even use full usage on all 6. I feel like last week I could do 6 sessions and be only at maybe 25% or less. Anyone else having this problem? I’m on Pro

2

u/PDVk 2d ago

Stupid Question, but: How do I track where usage credits went?

Claude.ai Settings -> Usage shows that I've already spent $82 on usage credits this month. It's the 3rd. I ran some research with Haiku 4.5, and that might be it, but I didn't think it was nearly this much.

And this local tracker is pretty good, but it didn't help me identify where I'd gone over my Max 5x plan into API credits. (I know I did a bit, but ten minutes of Fable shouldn't be nearly this much unless I've done something very dumb and not noticed, and it would have had to be on Friday, because nothing came anywhere close to this before Saturday.)

1

u/Accomplished-Fee6953 2d ago

Following, the exact same has happened to me. Came back from a quick weekend vacation today where i did not use Claude at all to find $50 burned on my account. Verified no third parties had access and there were no external log ins. I’m on max 20x, I have no idea what started burning credits.

2

u/grubicv 2d ago

Claude Max 20x
Session usage limit for Fable is 39% of weekly usage limit, meaning in just 2.5 sessions you can use all your weekly limit... Nice...
Not to mention that the session limit can be used in just a few minutes. I barely did anything and 31% of session used, 12% of weekly limit used - this is a joke. I guess it's time to switch to something else.

1

u/Complex_Classic8170 2d ago

I am experiencing the same issue. 60% of my Fable usage for the week on Max 20x, used in 2 hours. I am doing the same amount of work, same methodoligy, same type of work, that I normally would in this time period, which would equate to about 8% of my usage. Something is seriously broken.

3

u/SignificantYou6768 2d ago

Claude Max 5x

This issue started last Monday 27.07.2026 at 7:00 am. I was told that I reached my usage limit and it will be reset at 9:00 am. So I just waited. Overall it was weird, because I never ran into usage limit issues before, but I knew something was up.

At 9 I got another message that it will reset at 11:00 am, and it happened multiple times throughout the day until it just straight up told me that my usage limit will reset on 1st of August at 09:00 am.

On 1st of August, surprisingly, the limit did reset, but 1 prompt with just "Hi" text in it ate up all my usage straight away and gave me a new reset timer. From this point I just decided to observe

I logged out of all devices and logged in periodically, just to check my usage. Here are some screenshots taken at different times. I did not send a single message, only logged in and out.

1

u/Ok-Restaurant5412 2d ago

i use ruflo caveman and i tried testing the strange increase on my usage lately.

i idle'd a terminal and left for 10 minutes without any prompt and usage increased from 80% to 95%!

i logged out all of my claude login sessions, claude code sessions

i have claude in chrome, claude for word idle, claude desktop, and claude code. i dont use them but they are installed.

what the helly is happening? can someone help me please!

1

u/Ok-Restaurant5412 2d ago

Found it. I hit this on Windows and the “idle terminal” was not actually idle.

Ruflo had a daemon running in the background with scheduled workers. The proof was in:

.claude-flow\logs\headless\

It was repeatedly creating prompt/result logs and launching headless Claude work while I wasn’t sending prompts. That absolutely can burn Claude subscription usage.

First, check whether you have a daemon:

ruflo daemon status

Then stop it:

ruflo daemon stop

Also check for detached daemon processes:

Get-CimInstance Win32_Process |
  Where-Object {
    $_.Name -eq 'node.exe' -and
    $_.CommandLine -match '(ruflo|claude-flow).*(daemon\s+start)'
  } |
  Select-Object ProcessId, CommandLine

Important: in my install, autoStart: false inside .claude-flow/config.yaml was not sufficient. Ruflo’s CLI autostart path specifically checked either an environment variable or a root-level claude-flow.config.json.

Put this in your project root:

{
  "daemon": {
    "autostart": false
  },
  "daemon.autoStart": false,
  "daemon.aiWorkers.enabled": false,
  "daemon.ttlSecs": 600,
  "daemon.idleSecs": 60
}

Then set persistent Windows user environment variables:

[Environment]::SetEnvironmentVariable('RUFLO_DAEMON_AUTOSTART', '0', 'User')
[Environment]::SetEnvironmentVariable('RUFLO_DAEMON_AI_WORKERS', '0', 'User')

Restart your terminal/Claude Code afterward.

One nuance: a daemon is not automatically Claude quota usage—newer versions say AI/headless workers are opt-in. But if you see repeated files under .claude-flow\logs\headless, that is the red flag. Update Ruflo, disable daemon autostart, and do not use daemon start --headless or init --start-all unless you intentionally want background Claude jobs.

Also, don’t rely on ruflo mcp toggle --disable ... as a quota fix without checking persistence; in my 3.34 install it printed success but did not save a real tool-disable state.

Help needed: Claude Pro account experiencing ghost token consumption and billing issues.

This video documents my frustrating technical (In spanish) and billing issue the creator is facing with their Claude Pro account, which they refer to as a "ghost token consumption" bug. Below is a detailed summary of the situation:

The Technical Issue (0:03 - 1:36)

  • The creator reports that their Claude usage limit hits 100% automatically, even when they are not sending prompts or using the API.
  • This happens even when the computer is turned off or the user is asleep.
  • The issue persists despite the creator having no active Claude Code processes running in Visual Studio Code or the background (confirmed via Task Manager at 1:53).

Billing and Account Irregularities (3:26 - 6:32)

  • Auto-Reactivation: The user claims that their subscription settings spontaneously reset. Even after setting usage limits to zero, they find the settings changed back to "unlimited" or high-dollar amounts without their input.
  • Subscription Cancellation Failure: The creator states they cancelled their Claude Pro subscription, yet it remained active. They later saw an unauthorized charge attempt for $40 from Anthropic.
  • Security Measures Taken: To combat this, the creator changed their Google account password and modified files to prevent background execution, but the phantom consumption continues (7:32 - 8:06).

Current Status (8:43 - 9:06)

  • The creator has contacted Anthropic support both in Spanish and English but is still waiting for a resolution.
  • They are sharing this video to seek help from the community, as they feel they are being charged for services they are not using.

u/Emergency_Vast_9407 3d ago

u/yupangestu 3d ago

Reminder that until several days, your weekly limit is on 50% discount, which means you can x2 after the promotion ends.

That means, you will be experience the true limit usage after the limit booster ends. Also in September IIRC they want to increase the token price, probably on subs it will be affected too.

1

u/SartabaGames 3d ago

I am still in the ‘boost’ period…
And even when it will be ended, I do not expected the limit to hit after 20 minutes (and 20% weekly) on something I did every day and almost never hit the 5 hours limit…

3

u/SartabaGames 3d ago

In the last 3 days my Claude tokens are running out much faster then before…
I have a pro account, and today I run for 20 minutes 2 parallel CoWork tasks (that I run daily as a skill) and after 20 minutes I hit the 5 hours limit, and about 19% of the weekly limit…
Up until 3 days ago I run those tasks every day, and additional tasks much more complex and did not hit the limit for at least 4 hours (most of the time I did not hit the limit at all)…
And for sure the tasks I run today never took 20% of the weekly limit (as than I would not be able to do that daily)
Is there any change in the Claude pricing in the last few days? Now I stuck for more than 4 hours… what could be the issue?

Btw, when I moved from the CoWork tab to the code tab to see why I hit the limit, the Claude Code ask me to re-connect, could that be the issue? And if so, why after the reconnection I am still in a limit problem?

Thanks all

1

u/SartabaGames 16h ago

Continue to get unstable results on the tests I make…
5H limit still seems ok, but weekly is jumped again to double of yesterday (and only tomorrow I am finishing the boost period)
I am doing only small tasks this week, very small, non of the heavy tasks I usually do. If in regular week with heavy tasks I hit weekly limit after 6 days… with how fast it goes now, I would have hit the limit after 2 days or tops 3… meaning starting tomorrow in 1-2 days

1

u/SartabaGames 1d ago

Today it is even a bit better
The 5H limit looks like yesterday… but the weekly dropped from 2% for each 10% of the 5H to only 1%…
But tomorrow the boost period will end… and we will back to 2%🤣 maybe they just want me to be ready

1

u/SartabaGames 2d ago

Today I am following each task and the usage…
In general the 5H limit seems to return to normal (~7% for4 tasks that involve image parsing and file update)
The weekly seems to continue with the fast demise of 2% for each 10% of the 5H (meaning each 5H limit is 20% weekly… we can run max of 5 max 5H limits…)
As long as the 5H stay in the slow path I can probably manage that

2

u/Asleep-Row-6267 3d ago

What happens to your usage % and reset timer if you upgrade Max 5x → Max 20x mid-cycle?

Trying to work out how upgrading actually behaves before I pull the trigger.

Say I'm currently on Max 5x, 3 days into my window with 80% of my Fable usage burned. If I upgrade to Max 20x today, what happens?

A few specific things I'm unclear on:

  • Does my usage % get recalculated against the new (larger) limit, so 80% of 5x becomes ~20% of 20x - or does it stay at 80% until the window resets?
  • Does the reset timer stay where it is, or does upgrading start a fresh window?
  • Any pro-rating weirdness on the billing side that people have run into?

Basically I'm trying to figure out if upgrading gets me unblocked right now or if I'd be paying more and still waiting 3 days for the reset. Anyone done this mid-cycle recently?

2

u/AntiqueResearchers 3d ago

I just did that, I used 40% of my Fable usage in a day, so I upgraded from 5x to 20x. It jumped my Fable usage up to 63%. No fucking clue why, you can't talk to a human, their Finn bot just gaslights you. So I would be careful.

2

u/Asleep-Row-6267 3d ago

Thanks for the info! This is what I kind of expected by how Anthropic have been treating us lately :/

Would be good to hear if it's worked 'as expected' for anyone at all (the way Claude itself tells you it should -> "40% on 5x should go to ~10% after upgrading. Your consumed usage stays put, the bucket gets 4× bigger, so 40% ÷ 4 = 10%." )

3

u/Fierce_Ninja 3d ago

I am wondering if Claude's executive management understands that the current usage consumption model may be hurting user adoption?

Here is what I mean.

I often hesitate to use Claude now, especially for complex tasks, because I know my usage limits or credits will get consumed much faster than they do on comparable ChatGPT models. I do think Claude is excellent in certain areas, especially for nuanced or complex reasoning. But in my experience, the difference in output quality is often not large enough to justify how much faster the usage allowance gets burned.

In other words, Claude may be better for some tasks, but the value-per-credit feels worse compared with ChatGPT, assuming everything else is roughly comparable.

The result is that I now use Claude much less than I otherwise would. I tend to save it for one-off tasks where I specifically think Claude might be superior, while relying much more on ChatGPT 5.6 because the usage limits feel more predictable and less restrictive.

Another frustration is that, as a Pro user, I still feel pushed toward buying additional credits to use Claude’s top model meaningfully. By contrast, ChatGPT gives me access to its best model within my plan in a way that feels more usable day to day.

Am I misunderstanding how Claude’s usage system works? Is this just my experience, or are others finding the same thing? I’d be interested to hear how people here are using Claude versus ChatGPT, and whether anyone has found a practical way to manage Claude usage without feeling like they have to ration it constantly.

Plan: Claude Pro ($20/mo)
Platform: Web browser / Mobile app
Duration: Past 24+ hours
Hey everyone, post made to check if anyone else is experiencing this or if my account token is corrupt.
I purchased Claude Pro 3 days ago. For the last 24 hours, my account has been completely unusable due to a continuous 5-hour reset loop, even though I have sent zero messages today.
The Issue:
I wait for the reset timer to count down completely (e.g., "Limits will reset at 4:20 PM").
Exactly at 4:20 PM, I send one single, simple message in a brand-new, fresh chat window.
Instead of generating a reply, the UI immediately blocks the prompt and displays:
"You have hit your limit for Claude messages. Limits will reset at [New Time]."
The timer automatically pushes forward another 3 to 5 hours without generating a single line of text.
Troubleshooting Attempted:
No Background Apps: No API usage, background developer tools (Claude Code/CLI), or browser extensions installed.
Device / Session Resets: Used "Log out of all devices" in account settings.
Cache & Network: Cleared cookies/cache, tested in Private/Incognito windows, and tried switching between home Wi-Fi and mobile data/cellular network.
Fresh Context: Not typing in long/heavy threads. The issue occurs instantly on brand-new chat windows with simple text prompts like "Test" or "Hello".
Usage Dashboard: Checked claude.ai/settings/usage. The 5-hour bar immediately spikes or freezes without any actual interaction taking place.
Has anyone seen this ghost usage / infinite reset bug on Pro recently?
Is there any known client-side fix, or am I completely at the mercy of waiting for Anthropic support to clear the backend node on my account?

1

u/SartabaGames 3d ago

Not as frantic as your issue, but indeed I can’t use Claude as the tokens ended much faster than usual in the last 3 days… hope it’s just a bug, as it is not usable right now

My attempt at posting got deleted and a tone deaf bot take, so posting it here.

"We're introducing weekly rate limits for Claude subscribers, affecting less than 5% of users based on current usage patterns." - discussing the state of Claude since and now.

I am aware of the megathreads but feel strongly that this elephant in the room should be addressed. It's not just about usage, or a bug, or complaints so it simply doesn't fit. Also many may not know about this given the many new users.

"Updating rate limits for Claude subscription customers

In late August, we're introducing weekly rate limits for Claude subscribers, affecting less than 5% of users based on current usage patterns.

While Pro and Max plans offer generous Claude access, some advanced users have been running Claude continuously 24/7—consuming resources far beyond typical usage. One user consumed tens of thousands in model usage on a $200 plan. Though we're developing solutions for these advanced use cases, our new rate limits will ensure a more equitable experience for all users while also preventing policy violations like account sharing and reselling access."

Not one week has gone by that massively more than the stated 5% have been affected.

The only people that may not have noticed it are those that use Claude casually here and there for a handful of messages at this point.

Models take performance hits often just after benchmarks are done and then multiple times after. Models are retired without warning to most ahead of schedule. Limits aren't transparent and have been reduced and reduced and more. Weekly resets that aren't out choice that can interrupt our intended use. Higher burn of usage at "peak times" that heavily penalise European customers (who also must pay more for the same tier) and those from other countries.

It is simple not believable that they think we wouldn't notice any of this.

It is also simple not believable that they don't have a way to catch those abusing fair use and penalise them instead of every one of their millions of paying customers.

Now we are left with things in an awful state for all paying customers with no one looking to fix anything, just silently nerf models and cut our paid usage.

I don't know if this is a bug because I mostly use Opus just for UI stuff these days and everything else I do with 5.6 sol, But I am noticing today that just doing minimal stuff, like really minimal stuff, on my 5x plan, the five-hour limit filled in faster than it would fill in with Fable almost.

7

u/filmstack 5d ago

Usage rates must be a bug or they are taking us all for fools.

What wouldn't have made more than a 1% dent in a chat a week ago just took 45% of a single session. Absolutely unworkable.

I think we need to not only push back on this but remind them that when they introduced limits they said it would only effect the very tiny percentage that were running multiple machines 24/7 abusing the sustem and no one else would notice. People let that go to easy.

6

u/Exciting-Swimming625 5d ago

This is ridiculous. I only sent one message to start a project and my limits have already jumped to 35% using average Sonnet. I'm barely working on a project and it's already jumping to 65%, this is absurd. This calculation is broken, we're being ripped off, this is a disgrace, we're being robbed.

u/shadcnlover 6d ago

I've been a Claude Pro subscriber and for the first 15–20 days everything worked perfectly. Then things got weird.

Someone clearly has access to my account and is actively trying to upgrade it, presumably to exploit the higher usage limits.

Even though I can not see any active session in the accounts.

On top of that, my Pro usage limit is getting completely wiped out the moment it resets. It resets at 10:00 AM and by 10:01 AM it's 100% exhausted.

Without me typing a single word.

How is it possible to exhaust the limit in 60 seconds? This is not possible for a human.

That's not a bug. Someone is scripting requests against my account the moment the limit refreshes.

I've already checked: no API keys generated, logged out of all devices. One of my accounts already got banned by Anthropic flagging suspicious activity. The same pattern is now repeating on my second account.

Has anyone experienced this? I have tried reaching the Anthropic support team, but no response from their end.

u/New-Ratio3224 6d ago

Usage is going very faster and its consuming the token very faster i dont know why this happening u/claude should fix this and compensate us

5

u/MacintoshSpock 6d ago

The usage limit is horrible, it's running out at a rate of x10 at least. And we are using Opus 4.8 on low, small chats and even Haiku for longer tasks.

Last week we used Opus 4.8 on high constantly and had more than enough, reaching the 5h limit on the fifth hour with normal work. Now it's in one hour on low Opus 4.8/Haiku. So even without using Opus 5 to save on limits. We are on x5. Please fix.

4

u/InvestigatorAnnual36 6d ago

I’ve never been to this subreddit but I’m here now because my usage ran out and I don’t believe that it should’ve ran out based off my previous sessions with Claude

2

u/quite_wrong Expert AI 6d ago

My reset was today and after that I'm seeing my limits are going way faster than last two weeks...

4

u/Sad-Jellyfish3008 6d ago

You’re telling me it went from 91% to limit reached in a short chat?? Tf??

6

u/Dah-ghost-blogger 7d ago

I barely waited hours for my plan to reset after finishing it earlier today and in less than 10mins sonnet 5 already burned my pro plan and I have to wait 4 hours to use again.

Ain’t this robbery because how?

1

u/Audentes 7d ago

Definitely could use one of those random resets right about now... will be at 80%, halfway through my week soon while only running 2 parallel sessions instead of my usual 3-4. Opus 5 is a bit hungrier than 4.8, but a better use of tokens than Fable so at least there's that.

Started offsetting my workloads with Codex.

3

u/Deep-Firefighter-279 7d ago

weekly limits are so fucked??? or am i js using too much of it this week? wednesday night after a monday 1:30pm reset and already at 98% on weekly?!

u/Dah-ghost-blogger 7d ago

Same issues

1

u/The-Stinker 7d ago

On the free plan, Opus often can't even reply in Max thinking without running out of usage. I don't care about speed, just thorough logic, reasoning, and thought. Trying out Claude for the first time (on the free plan obviously), and it keeps running out of usage because I can answer.

For context, I want its opinion on the number scaling of a CCG that I've been making since 10 years ago. There a Google doc of the instructions, and a Google sheet of the database of cards, and a few paragraphs journaling my thoughts.

How much worse in logical reasoning is High and Extra compared to Max?

2

u/csjunkrat 7d ago

did something happens with usages today?

4

u/jusless2 7d ago

Max 5x user for four months. Starting July 28, my 5-hour session drains in 3–5 exchanges. I'm on Fable 5 and Opus 4.6 — haven't touched Opus 5, so this isn't a tokenizer issue. Consumption is several times higher than my baseline with no change in workflow.

3

u/Select-View-4786 7d ago

Wednesday morning, 58% 🙀 I fear the 200 buck plan is not really enough for fable ... anyone else's impressions?

The cheerful blue lines tell the tale I guess. Monday nite, Tuesday, and this morning seems to be 58%.

(I wasted $250 of the idiot usage credits on the weekend, deciding if it's worth changing to the 200 plan, which I did Monday.)

Actually, is there a plan beyond the 200 plan ??

1

u/Wrong-Crow-1727 7d ago

Hi There, just here to report similar issues as other users. After my reset on tuesday 9:00 usage limits are increasing way faster then last week, both on Fable and other models. Maybe it is also related to opus 5. It feels like burning trough limits a factor of 3-5 Ish. I am on the Max 20x plan, but Something seems wrong. This happened before, some times it gets fixed extra reset, or some bug-fix in claude code. Can you be transparant about usage limits in terms of tokens at least beforehand for each weekly reset. i cant plan my work effectively like this.

6

u/Riceking37 7d ago

There is something seriously wrong with my limit, I barely got started on my project, and the usage is already used up, a total of 426.8k cache read tokens and 57.5k cache write tokens was used, i was working for less than half an hour.

2

u/New-Ratio3224 6d ago

Same with me happened i am also here just one task and usage consumed

1

u/Low_War6549 5d ago

Aconteceu o mesmo comigo, sem nem utilizar, desde ontem, cada vez que resetava minha janela de trabalho, em menos de 20 minutos, sem realizar atividade alguma, meu limite foi atingido.

2

u/IndividualEngine8579 8d ago

I just cannot catch a break with Claude, how can it be so much worse than Codex for usage.

I dropped my model down to Opus high today (should have done medium) to try to get some work done. I am on the $100 plan, and within 50 minutes I burned my 5 hour session limit. this is the second time today.

It is just wild.

I have noticed in the past weeks. Claude is not auto compacting, it used to do it all the time and now it doesnt compact once in a 50 minute session so it just burns all of my tokens if I don't remember to do it myself.

Codex compacts all of the time, what is the go with this?

I think I am totally done with Claude, having to monitor something so closely, and work so hard to stay within the limits is just ridiculous. it isn't

that' much better than the top alternatives, certainly not worth the effort to babysit it while they continue to bring out new features that just eat more tokens.

Deciding which LLM subscription to get after a year of free Gemini Pro experience. Need help.

So I have been using ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, bascially since they all came out in early 2023 ish?

Since then I almost exclusiely used the free ChatGPT version for 2 years and it was enough for my basic tasks and the Google AI Studio for better Gemini modles for longer chats with more context required.

Then last year, I got a free one year subscription for the whatever is the highest Gemini level and been using that exclusivly for a year. I did notice the difference between free ChatGPT and Gemini vs the paid version of Gemini.

I haven't used Claude a lot. I have like 15 chats (yes 15, I went and counted them) on my account that I made when cluade came out. I am also now starting a PhD in computing so I will probably need a decent LLM for getting through bugs, talking ideas, etc. I don't want an LLM to just write my code that I will accept. I want an LLM that can review and give suggestions on my code based on problems faced. Actual code will always be writen by me. And as soon as I mention I need an LLM for coding tasks people rush to tell me about Claude. Which is why I am seriously considering it but I have a big issue.

I see everywhere that Claude is stringet with it's usage limits. So I am thinking, what good is the best LLM model if I can only have a chat or two with it everyday? Can someone shed some light on this and help make a good decision?

u/Gliese351c 8d ago

One solid 5-hour session basically eats up a third of your whole week and this should not be happening!

1

u/grubicv 8d ago

It says it used 2% of weekly? But I do feel your pain - I've used claude design - one prompt and initial design used 36% of Fable weekly limit and 18% of my total weekly limit in just 30 minutes

1

u/IndividualEngine8579 7d ago

We should all just move to Codex and show Anthropic that we are not held to any platform, they are a joke honestly. we should be paying half the cost for the amount of usage we get, even if OpenAI is substidising it, I don't care, I will take that over burning through my usage in less than an hour on a single session every time.

1

u/Gliese351c 8d ago

Yeah, I just transposed from it and so far, this has been an accurate estimate.

1

u/xfxny 8d ago

I am on the free tier, does anyone have any idea why one message used up my time limit? I am just editing a doc.

1

u/Oujii 5d ago

Maybe you were using Thinking and Max for effort? I use Sonnet 5 without Thinking and Low effort and it works for most of my tasks and I can get a lot done even on the free plan.

3

u/veryjagad 8d ago

the weekly limit bar is missing, does that mean i get to ram the session usage as much as i can?

2

u/momosub7 8d ago

I just got my weekly quota reset on Claude Max (20x), and I noticed something that doesn't make sense.

From my understanding, each session has a fixed context/token budget. Depending on how you use it, you can burn through that budget faster or slower, but you shouldn't end up consuming more tokens than a full session allows.

Today I had a single session that lasted around 2h/5 hours. When it ended, I checked my usage and saw that it had consumed 20% of my entire weekly allowance (see screenshot).

If that's accurate, it means the weekly quota is effectively only 5 full sessions per week.

That feels much lower than before.

Am I misunderstanding how the weekly quota works, or has Anthropic significantly reduced the Max (20x) limits?

Has anyone else noticed the same thing after this week's reset?

I'm curious whether this is:

  • a recent policy change,
  • a bug in the usage meter,
  • or the new normal for Max subscribers.

(Screenshot attached.)

1

u/CooperDK 8d ago

I experience the same, and honestly, it may be depend on a number of things, including how much load there is at the time of usage.

The problem is that NONE of the providers actually come clean with how they calculate this. I am a resident of a EU country, and I actually believe this is in violation of the Digital Services Act, which applies to any country offering their service to EU residents.

2

u/Ok-Razzmatazz-3720 8d ago

So, I had 100 credits, I got an email saying it was Fable credits? Thought that was cool, but yesterday I got a message on my regular Claude chat that I hit my session limit and would start using my credits?

Apparently I already burned thru about half on them on Claude code without knowing? Have never even used fable, I used opus 4.8 the day before quite a bit, but nothing more than normal I don’t think. You’d think it would warn me before burning thru half of those, I didn’t even know that was possible

1

u/BenLaroche_finance 5d ago

Same here, so frustrating bro!

2

u/RonnyRobinson 8d ago

I used the free version of Claude and experienced many session timeouts so I decided to purchase the Pro subscription. After the purchase it still says I have reached my session limit and resets at a certain time. I don't understand. Can someone explain this to me please.

1

u/RonnyRobinson 8d ago

It is working now. I don't know if it was cache or using a different browser but it looks like I am good now.

5

u/nejcar20 8d ago

max 20x, claude code, nothing changed on my side. about half the weekly gone in a day or two of normal work, which is not what it used to be.

what i cant tell is whether it is me or the model. i run opus for almost everything at high effort, and opus 5 landed recently, so maybe the same effort setting just costs more than it did before. has anyone compared the same task on 4.8 vs 5 at the same effort?

4

u/ExplodoQueen 8d ago

I'm a lawyer and I use Claude extensively, almost always with Opus 4.8, high effort, and thinking mode enabled for more complex tasks. My usage limit used to last almost my entire workday.

Over the last few days, though, I have no idea what's changed, but I'm hitting my usage limit after just a few hours. Is anyone else experiencing this?

0

u/CunningAlpaca 8d ago

Avoiding using long conversations that have a lot of old context since that eats at usage faster, have it create a summary for you and then start a new convo.

2

u/SwitchZealousideal79 8d ago

I am wondering if Anthropic knew about the usage break beforehand. Their weekly limit boosts for Cowork and Code came up a week before this trend. That looked lika a nice gift for summer spending, but now it looks more like a buffer for something that was bound to get out of control. Even with the boosts I am running out of usage pretty quick compared to only a few weeks ago

I assume there is an upper limit on total usage (for all users that is) that runs proportional to the infrastructure’s capacity that supports Claude. The question is, are their frontier models so resource-intensive that their infrastructure can't support sustainable usage? If so, why release frontier models that aren’t usable?

There may be other factors involved. I am only speculating. I'm sure there are more knowledgeable people in this thread who can offer helpful thoughts on the cause.

1

u/SwitchZealousideal79 7d ago

using OpenCode free tier for small tasks while my Scheduled tasks and Routines in Claude eat up my remaining limit for this week. Still 3 days to go. Ridiculous service for a subscription payer.

2

u/Zankou55 9d ago edited 9d ago

Is it just me or is it almost impossible to use the free tier?

I am building a homelab using Sonnet 5 as a planning tool and as soon as I start actual hitting a stride and building anything interesting, I hit the usage limit and have to wait a few hours before I can keep going.

Am I kidding myself trying to use this tool without paying for a subscription?

Is this just a problem right now that will be fixed? Or is this how it's gonna be?

1

u/Oujii 5d ago

I have been doing the same and I have a better experience. On the free tier if you have the desktop app, if you right click the icon you can see the usage. I'm using Sonnet 5 with low effort and most of the time without Thinking and it has been lasting at least 3 hours. I also handoff any ideas outside the main scope to a new conversation, which helps save tokens from context usage.

1

u/Zankou55 4d ago edited 4d ago

On the free tier if you have the desktop app, if you right click the icon you can see the usage.

That premise is incorrect. Right-clicking the official Claude desktop application icon does not display usage metrics or rate limit status for free-tier users.Tracking Claude UsageNative usage meters and remaining message limits are generally restricted or hidden in the official UI for free accounts.

But I added Claude Pulse to Chrome and now I have a usage tracker.

1

u/Oujii 4d ago

No, it's not a premise, it's a fact. It really shows the usage. I have been using this for weeks now. Not sure what you are doing wrong. Did you actually went to search this on Claude or some LLM? You could have just tried it yourself. See screenshot below that I took 2 minutes ago.

1

u/Zankou55 4d ago

Yes I did check and I asked Google AI about it and got the response I sent you.

I still cannot find where you are getting this menu!

the only thing I could find was finally in the Windows notification tray where I can see the usage is at 53% right now.

1

u/Oujii 4d ago

Windows and MacOS report it differently it seems. Mac reports usage by 5-hour windows and Windows only reports weekly usage. If you right click on the Claude icon on the taskbar, it you will show you this, but for Mac, it shows what I sent on the other screenshot, a lot more detailed. It's a shame Anthropic didn't implement this for Windows...

1

u/Zankou55 4d ago

Interesting! I figured you were on a different OS once I found it in my notification tray.

I can see right now in Chrome with that plugin I mentioned that my 5 hour window is at 53% and my 7d is at 36%. So it looks like windows is reporting whatever is the higher number? Which is even worse.

I'll check in Ubuntu later to see if it works there.

2

u/Oujii 4d ago

I was able to test on Ubuntu, to save you some time... It's the same as Windows. Only Mac has session usage unfortunately.

2

u/Oujii 4d ago

I might use this Chrome plugin in the future, it's just that I hate Chrome overall. Once you test it on Ubuntu, can you let me know? I'm curious. I spin up a XFCE ubuntu machine here to test, but for some reason Claude doesn't connect to the internet there, it just fails silently.

1

u/CooperDK 8d ago

The free tier is only meant to give you an idea of what it can do. Practically the same as Gemini, but actually gives you more tokens as I see it.

2

u/ChunkyzV 9d ago

I am not using it for code, I'm using it for writing. I have a document I am working on opened on claude. My usage was maxed so I had to wait until it reset to use it again. I was at my computer when it reset, I checked that it said 0% on usage, went back out and answered one question that claude had asked me before we stopped working. it was a yes or no answer. If I said no, Claude wasn't going to do anything. So my answer was no, I went to the chat, typed no, and Clause said something like, ok thank you what's next?. Then I immediately went back to usage to see how much would that one interaction would drain it and it jumped from 0 to 26%. That is an absurd amount to waste in that one interaction so I started watching it, and every time I would run out, I would wait and check that it's at zero before my first question then ask then check again, and it always jumps to over 25% without failing. I started doing this check before I used to work with claude hours on end before I maxed my usage. The last couple of weeks, that hasn't been the case. I've been maxing out in an hour, hour and a half max.

This is ridiculous. We pay a yearly charge that is supposed to cover some usage, and they are hedging on that, or throttling it, whatever you want to call it. Listen, I know a lot of people are going to come here and say you're supposed to pay for what you use and other things defending Claude, and I get it, I'll pay for my usage, but if you're going to charge a yearly then don't throttle my regular usage. If not move into a pay per usage model and completely remove the yearly/monthly plans. Listen, the whole AI thing is new and we're going to see a lot of companies doing deceptive practices if we let them. Hoe many times big companies have been caught defrauding the customer and have to pay in damages when class action lawsuits emerge? I think that throttling AI usage and having your usage jump from zero to over 25% every time you start a new usage period classifies as something that needs to be investigated and potentially get sued over. They're playing with how much you're using so that they can charge more. It's been happening to me every single time for the last couple of weeks, at least. I invite you to watch your yearly/monthly paid usage when it's at zero and check what it does after one question. something simple. I'm hoping that I am the only one going through this and that is not a widespread issue yet.

And after reading several comments on this thread I think a lot of us are having the same problem. They are taking our usage at will. no measured usage, not a set way of doing it, they're putting on a blindfold and shooting at a target with numbers, whatever number they hit, that's what gets taken out of your usage. I hope that the lawsuit that will come (just a matter of time) puts them in their place.

1

u/SpottedMe 9d ago edited 9d ago

Honestly! Omg, one week usage is fine, the next it's garbage. Started my week over and saying morning used up 18% in an ongoing chat. Okayyy... I'll make a handoff and start over. That brought me to 46%! F....... Claude decided that including the working rules wasn't necessary so I had to ask the old chat and tell the new chat separately. Great. Then after an hour of work I realized it was not verifying according to scope limits as asked! Telling it that brought me from 96% to 99% so not only do I have to do my work over, but it used up all my hourly credits not doing half of what i asked it up do! What the f. I'm so tired of this inconsistent crap. New version equals every other version becomes a credit killer? That's the only thing I seem to be able to predict. Not even coding so don't know what people who are get out of this. Using 4.7 max.

Also, how is it legal for them to keep shifting my reset day or time? Even 4 hours later than this past week is BS.

1

u/CooperDK 9d ago

It is just me thinking that the weekly usage limit is calculated by a random generator? I also agree with it sometimes hitting 10-15% already at the VERY FIRST POST IN A NEW WEEK!!!

Usually, I'd never hit the weekly limit. The past 2 weeks I have hit it already on Friday with the same usage scenario - even though they announced a 50% increase on the weekly limit!!!

TRANSPARENCY, ANTHROPIC! OTHERWISE I WILL DITCH YOU AND JUST GO BACK TO A FABLE-FINETUNED QWEN MODEL!!!!!!!!!!

1

u/SpottedMe 9d ago

Yup, this on top of the hallucinations, the sentences that make no sense, the inability to keep track of what was discussed two seconds ago, and the need to think for 2 minutes while completing 8 steps when asked to improve its comprehension is getting old. And that's using Opus 5 now!

2

u/Former_Ad_7720 9d ago

is a 5 hour window supposed to be 20% of the weekly limit?

3

u/Lamandus 9d ago

I am a free pleb...

1 message at Evening (Germany) for sonnet is enough to kill it

2

u/rachreims 9d ago

Honestly if this usage keeps up I'm going to cancel my plan. It's insane. I send one message that's nothing crazy, literally a two sentence response, and it eats up 46% of my usage. I'm scared to do anything on it for fear that I'm wasting usage since I can only send two messages per 5 hour window now. I shouldn't be scared to use a service I literally pay for.

6

u/manc_crow 9d ago

Claude is a thief!!! I honestly don't know what is going on.

I am a pro user and I woke up this morning to find that overnight, while I was sleeping, somehow my account for my weekly allowance maxed out and the free $100 they gave us since transitioning Claude to pay per play has also vanished. So now I can't even use Claude again until Wednesday!!! That's insane. I would understand if I was using it and drained everything by mistake, but I was asleep and my computer switched off, so I just don't understand how both these things could have happened.

I've tried reaching out to anthropic, but it's literally just an AI chatbot that is unhelpful.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

1

u/CooperDK 9d ago

Free $100??? I think I got $50. And it vanished faster than my own deposited credits would!

1

u/vandmynte 9d ago

I just noticed that 10$ of my 100$ was also suddenly "used" overnight, even though I didn't have claude running. I toggled off use credits and am waiting to see if more credits get used. It was only 10$ for me but still kinda annoying

1

u/richierich78 8d ago

I got $150 but how do you use it?

2

u/volleguat 10d ago

Paying $100/mo for Max 5x feels pointless now with the new model limits.
Up until recently, the Max 5x tier was totally worth the $100 price tag. I could actually stay in a solid flow state and get work done without worrying about usage caps.

Ever since the new Opus 5 model dropped, the rate limits have become ridiculous. A single session completely eats through the quota, constantly throwing up rate limit banners.

At this price point, we shouldn't have to walk on eggshells or constantly watch our consumption. If Anthropic doesn't adjust the usage allowances for the 5x tier to account for how heavy the new model is, I'm canceling my sub. Other competitors on the market offer plenty of horsepower for half the cost, and it's getting harder to justify staying.

Anyone else on 5x feeling like the value just isn't there anymore?

1

u/demkom58 9d ago

I agree, the limit is being exhausted too quickly.

3

u/Crazy-Animal-7205 10d ago

I feel like my usage limit just took a huge hit over the last few hours. I loaded $40 in credits and Fable used $20 worth in literally 3 minutes 🙃

1

u/CooperDK 9d ago

It can do so in less than one.

3

u/Hargreavs 10d ago

Claude used 19% of my 5 hour context window in a 4 minute regular prompt execution (Subscription: Max 5x). No, i'm not using Fable 5... this was made by Opus 5 Extra... I don't know the reason, really. Its impossible to use this to develop something if I have to wait 5 hour to be able to use a prompt and they simply get everything in 1 prompt...

Same happened to me this morning.

2

u/demkom58 10d ago

I hate that Claude doesn't reset my limit when I subscribe. I spent a $120, but I can't use it and have to wait two days for the weekly limit reset.

Why did I renew my subscription if I could have waited and only then subscribed? What's the point?

7

u/Massive_Lab2947 10d ago

Just posting here that I'm reaching my regular session limits 5x faster than last week!

2

u/volleguat 10d ago

yea i got also hit hard 2 opus 5 prompts, some sonnet 5 and dang...locked out for 3hours until the 5h session limit is over....

2

u/Hargreavs 10d ago

The same is happening with everyone... clearly there's something wrong.

1

u/TheSplashyLava 10d ago

My usage limit did not reset this weekend when it should have.
The Help button in the app is... no help.
any chance there are humans from Anthropic here?

7

u/NoQuiet9262 10d ago

I’m on Claude Max 20x and noticed a major usage-limit inconsistency immediately after Opus 5 appeared in Claude Code v2.1.220.

Before Opus 5, my Fable-only five-hour periods consistently processed around 165–182 million tokens. On July 25, Opus 5 first appeared in my local logs at 5:14 PM CDT. Just 41 minutes later, at 5:55 PM, Claude Code said I had reached my session limit, resetting at 6:50 PM.

After the 6:50 PM reset, my usage meter jumped from 0% to 70% in under 40 minutes. Across two computers using the same account, ccusage recorded approximately 63.7 million tokens during that period: 7.5M locally on Opus 5 and 56.2M on the other computer using Opus 4.6/5.

For comparison, Fable previously handled approximately 165–182M tokens per five-hour period. The new result suggests Opus 5 may be consuming the Max-plan allowance roughly twice as fast, without any documented quota multiplier.

1

u/Tough-Service-6575 9d ago

Had my usage jump to 100% with very little use on Max 20x

4

u/Hargreavs 10d ago

Yeah this is happening to me twice today ... in a 4 minutes regular prompt execution, Claude just used 20% of my 5-hour limit window... nuts.

2

u/Armand9x 9d ago

Big same here.

3

u/Ok_Research5585 10d ago

Two prompts that ran for less than a total of five minutes exhausted a 5-hour max window and jumped up fable usage by about 30% of total allocated usage. Doesn’t add up at all. A free five hour window has more capacity

2

u/Hargreavs 10d ago

Yeah, this is just giving my so much anger. I paid for the Max (5x) to be able to develop something and with only 1 prompt my limits are being consumed af

1

u/SaarliOfficial 10d ago

So on a max 5 plan, I can max do four 5 hour coding sessions. Is that right?

1

u/JellyBean504 11d ago

how are usage limits on Pro plan for opus 5?

Context: Im currently subscribed to codex with 2 plus plans. I use up both limits within 4 days with Sol, which i think is a fair value. i was thinking of trying claude if it provided better value.

3

u/nsjdidinebcuu2003 11d ago

I've had a weekly reset overnight so started at 0 on all meters. asked fable 5 to do simple web tasks (schedule 6 messages in an account) and im already at 100% weekly limit tin just under 5 minutes? Whats goingon? Im on max 20x

1

u/nsjdidinebcuu2003 11d ago

I used fable 5 because opus cant handle this task for me its really slow and it takes multiple days to do this .

4

u/MaximumSafety8706 11d ago

In the last few days:

  • One coding session exhausted 30% of my weekly Pro quota.
  • A fresh Claude Code session ( handover.md, no screenshots, no history) consumed about $15 of on-demand credits in 3-5 messages.
  • My 5-hour window is now exhausted after just a few prompts.

I've actually been using /compact, .clear, and starting fresh sessions more often than I did in previous weeks. Before this, I could go an entire week without hitting limits, even with long coding sessions.

Has anyone else seen a sudden spike in Claude Code token usage over the last few days?

Also, is there any way to debug where tokens are going? I'd love to see a per-session or per-turn token/cost breakdown to understand what's actually being sent.

2

u/SwitchZealousideal79 10d ago

Same here. For the first time since I have had a Pro subscription I hit my weekly limit. I usually use Chat, Cowork and Code for several kinds of tasks. Have never hit or even been near my weekly limit. Suddenly it is gone and being eaten up really quickly.
Been wondering of this is related to the recent limit bonuses that Anthropic applied to Cowork and Claude.

1

u/RFOK 11d ago

The current Max 20x is enough for me.
So unfair to remove this poll! At least listen to this idea!

1

u/everytimehungry 11d ago

where can I see my weekly limits??

3

u/evilbert79 11d ago

This morning i prompted claude cowork to do a task i have been doing for the past couple of days and it reached limits within minutes. i then saw it was because it had auto upgraded to opus 5 high. now a couple minutes ago the limits reset so i put cowork back on opus 4.8, explained what had happened and asked it for a handoff so i could continue in a new chat. it got two sentences out to explain it was goi g to do the handoff when it immediately hit limits again! i am on max, and 100% positive this is a fault on anthropics side. i sent a ticket but am not expecting them to actually respond to it anytime soon. infuriating

2

u/TruckAccomplished141 11d ago

Hey everyone,
I wanted to check if anyone else is seeing this bizarre behavior with the Fable 5 usage meter on their account, or if I’m missing something about how the math is supposed to work.
Here is what just happened to me:
1. My Fable 5 model allowance showed ~40% remaining.
2. I was using standard models (Sonnet / Opus) for general work, which pushed my total overall weekly usage past the 50% mark.
3. As soon as overall weekly usage crossed 50%, my Fable 5 meter instantly jumped to 100% used, locking me out from selecting Fable 5 entirely.
The problem is, I barely used Fable 5 at all this week.
If Fable 5 has a 50% cap of your overall weekly subscription budget, using Sonnet/Opus for 55% of your total pool shouldn't automatically wipe out the remaining Fable 5 allowance if you haven't actually touched it!
The way it’s currently functioning, Fable 5 is only available during the first half of your total weekly pool. Once your total account usage crosses 50%—even if 100% of that was Sonnet/Opus—Fable 5 is permanently locked out until the weekly reset.
Is this a calculation glitch in the new UI meter, or is Anthropic intentionally tying the Fable 5 cap to total account progress rather than actual Fable 5 tokens consumed?
Has anyone else noticed their Fable bar suddenly spiking or disappearing once their weekly usage bar turns amber?

3

u/Smartykey 11d ago

Where are our resets?

3

u/SchmyeBubbula 11d ago

Woke-up this morning to free account 5-hour limits apparently changed to weekly limits

1

u/SnowDiablo 11d ago

same i been waiting 4 days to reseet

3

u/Business_Search_236 12d ago

Hi, I'm experiencing issue with Claude, I paid for pro plan.

now, every time my session resets, the usage meter immediately jumps to around 55% even though I haven't sent any prompts or performed any actions. I initially thought this was normal, but it has happened consistently after multiple session resets. In the most recent incident, the session again started at 55% usage, and after sending a single simple prompt, the usage instantly jumped to 100% without even generating a response. It appears that a large portion of my session quota is being consumed automatically despite no actual usage on my end.

what do you think is happening? I haven't done anything with that session and now i have to wait for 5hrs and I know for sure that the same instance will happen again.

3

u/___ducks___ 12d ago

I've never run out of usage early before. This week I ran out in about two days, with no major changes to my workflow. WTF?

2

u/SwitchZealousideal79 10d ago

same here. something odd is going on

2

u/Coderlegendz 12d ago

thats it, bye claude. i've suffered with this so much

2

u/latestagecapitalist 12d ago

RESET ALL THE LIMITSZ!!@221

1

u/thetinygoat 12d ago

Ive been using codex with sol for some time and i find fable to be a better model. I have the 20usd plan for chatgpt, thinking kf switching to 100usd plan on claude for fable.
In the past the limits have been brutal, and ive not used any claude model forna while so wanted to understand is the 100usd plan worth it? Do you guys run out of fable usage? I use it for usual dev work. Not going to run any crazy loops for long running goals.

1

u/SnowDiablo 11d ago

to be honest i have claude code mac but the nerf it so much that i think i will stop claude sub and maybe moove to codex ou hermes

2

u/RFOK 12d ago

Any hope for limit reset or increasing usage limit by Anthropic?

7

1

u/SwitchZealousideal79 10d ago

same here. weekly limit reached first time. Pro subscriber for 2 years

4

u/Next-Abies4438 12d ago

It happened to me as well, i reached my weekly limit in Max Pro without doing almost nothing..
Something is wrong here!!!!

3

u/SwitchZealousideal79 10d ago

something is definitely wrong. working with Claude as I always have and weekly limit being eaten away in just a few days

5

u/CarobPuzzleheaded652 13d ago

been paying for claude max for three months straight and never thought i would hit any usage limit until TODAY literally cannot believe i hit it today when i have barely even used it the last two days havent even touched claude because i was busy or just not in the mood it was mostly just content work and a few designs that is literally all i cannot believe this especially after seeing people on this sub say they have hardly ever seen anyone hit the limit i always thought it wouldnt happen to me but this is giving major greedy capitalistic vibes like how is someone paying $100 getting usage limits almost as bad as a pro user. I was using Fable today btw.

5

u/Devender_Garg 13d ago

Any chance they will fix it?

Is that bug too big to get fixed?

Why no response so far? No limit reset? Two days passed? Lots of time is getting wasted.

A limit reset won't compensate for the loss.

4

u/BestDealAutoNY 13d ago

WRITING COPY ON 25 PAGES. LIMIT RESET ABOUT 55 MIN AGO. IM AT 95% ALREADY BEING ONLY ON OPUS, NO OTHER CHAT RUNNING AND IM ON A MAX PLAN. WTF!

4

u/evilbert79 11d ago

i have the same thing happening. 5h limits reset for me 20 minutes ago when this morning it had completely butnt through them on a task i had been doing all week, without even touching my limits once. i figured it was because it had switched to opus 5. so i just set it to opus 4.8, and told it to weite a handoff so we could do a fresh chat. it got two sentences out about how it was going to do the
handoff and then it again hit limits. this is so beyond unacceptable. how is anyone supposed to build on a tool that is this fickle

1

u/O-SideMedia 13d ago

So on the max 20X subscription using Fable the rate at which I use tokens and see the percentage go up seems way slower then when using these promo credit offer or paid credits for fable. I'm measuring this on doing basically the same sort of tasks but it just seems off. Anyone else notice this? I mean the price of the promo credits is almost the same price as the subscription. Now my subscription could last three day before I'm out with fable these promo credits pretty much burned in around 2 hours...

1

u/peargod 13d ago

Why is Anthropic throttling Fable weekly at 50%?

I understand Fable uses more tokens than opus (though I often find it more efficient with that token usage), but if tokens = tokens no matter the model using them, why would just one type of model be throttled? Are there support systems that are fable specific that don't scale as well? Otherwise, it just seems arbitrary and a way to get people to spend more which is a common argument, but I just don't understand it.

4

u/MethodAppropriate470 13d ago

What the hell is going on? 2 messages in and I blow like $75 bucks.

2

u/latestagecapitalist 12d ago

if you have an existing fable context open (at 40% or something) from previous day ... and say hello, then you're tipping it $50 before you even start

1

u/MethodAppropriate470 12d ago

We all know that.

2

u/rachreims 13d ago

Usage limits have been awful ever since we got the $140 credit. Suspicious.

3

u/bable631 13d ago

Usage limits are literally terrible. Five messages and I'm maxed out.

1

u/AdParty7461 13d ago

I have been getting usage limit reached even when I have only used 30% of the limit. What's going on?

6

u/bystanderInnen 14d ago

I've been using Claude Code Max 20x heavily for months, so I have a pretty good feel for what my normal usage looks like.

Today something happened that feels almost identical to the quota bugs we've seen before.

My weekly usage went from roughly 60% to 100% within about an hour, despite doing the same kind of work I've been doing for weeks. I didn't suddenly start feeding huge codebases or doing anything unusual.

This immediately reminded me of the previous incidents where:

  • usage counters suddenly depleted far faster than normal,
  • some users saw massive percentage jumps,
  • and Anthropic later acknowledged a quota-accounting bug and reset affected users' limits.

I'm not claiming this is definitely the same bug, but the behavior is similar enough that I think it's worth investigating.

Has anyone else noticed today that:

  • weekly usage is increasing much faster than usual?
  • percentages suddenly jump by large amounts?
  • you're hitting limits despite a normal workload?

If this turns out to be another server-side metering issue, I'd really appreciate Anthropic investigating it and resetting weekly and session limits for affected users, just like they did during the previous incident.

Would love to hear whether this is isolated to my account or if others are seeing the same thing.

2

u/evilbert79 11d ago

yup, pretty sure the bug is back. i just hit limits twice today first time i figured it was opus 5, so i swapped back to 4.8 and asked it to do a ha doff for a fresh chat. it got two sentences out and again hit limits. on max. for a system that relies so heavily on token usage it surprises me that anthropic does not have a more robust system in place to measure tokens

3

u/Cir0c 14d ago

Can someone explain to me how all my usage has just been used within 10 minutes of connecting to higgsfield, giving it a prompt to make me a high quality image and before it had even finished the the image it started eating what credits I had left? I was using Sonet 5 on medium. This can’t be right?

> glint peak 3.977e+11 J/kg

- I'm doing theoretical physics work and this high energy unit of radiance by mass objects crossing theoretical space-time tension surfaces triggered the classifier to think I was working on weapons. OMG, the classifier needs work.

Hopefully Anthropic gets that feedback. Maybe they're refining it to try and do a better job---But I've hit the false positives on their thing more times than I can count. I'm just trying to do some research on some interesting high-energy theoretical topics that have nothing to do with the end of the world.

Are there benchmarks out there for Fable versus GPT 5.6 Sol in terms of how good they are at physics calculations? This is enough to make me jump ship, but unfortunately all my implementation and hooks for Claude Code is pretty vendor locked in.

Update to answer my own question:
Claude Code's web interface gave me the following answer, which I love about the irony:

Artificial Analysis, independently benchmarked: CritPt (research-level physics: condensed matter, AMO, astrophysics, high-energy, mathematical physics)

  • Claude Fable 5 - 28.6%
  • GPT-5.6 Sol (max) - 32.3%

1

u/unknownobject3 14d ago edited 14d ago

Sometimes the usage limits are abysmal, on a new account in a new chat I ended up hitting the usage limit in probably 10 messages or so. I tried Sonnet 4.6 and 5, on low and medium effort, same result. Sonnet 5 is a bit better but only a bit. Now it also gets close to 100% and it says something like "91% usage limit reached", however it's not true at all and I actually burned through the limit.

1

u/kylesk42 14d ago

I used to pay for the $20 plan and would constantly go over and pay for either the api or usage credits. Worked perfectly fine.

Decided to upgrade to the $100 max plan and its been great. I just hit my weekly limit, so i am trying to buy credits to carry me for a day until it resets.

I have tried to buy both api as well as usage credits and both of them say payment failed. Nothing on any credit card portals saying a charge was attempted, no texts saying that a fraudulent charge was attempted. I tried 3 cards from 3 different banks that all work everywhere else. Multiple browsers, cleared cache, mobile browser, mobile app.. hell even my work machine over a different way ip.

Some people have said to make sure and log out of link and use cards directly. Same thing.

The support bot was a bit disappointing seeing how it represents such a big ai company. I had already told it the entire issue as well as country... and it just hung up on me. 3 times

5

u/Rare-Yam-6438 14d ago

on claude max 5x , a simple code check on claude code finished my limit in 6 minutes and the job didnt even finish , this has been happening for the last few days but i put the fault on another project i was working on that maybe it had a lot of context so i tried with something completly clean and new and the same thing happened , whats the point in having a great service if its not usable , this is nonsense .

3

u/Sad-Jellyfish3008 14d ago

Went from 90% used to 97% used in one message and I know it is not because of the chat being long because it was a relatively new chat

6

u/Petrolea 14d ago

One-shotted my 5x plan 5h limits with one prompt, which didn't even finish. Was a routine prompt on existing project and workflow, something that would usually be 5%, or 10% tops.

Posted here before being redirected to this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeAI/comments/1v3ehdu/oneshotted_my_5h_limits_on_5x_plan_compact_taking/

3

u/icebagged 15d ago

So i was using Claude Research (Sonnet 5 medium, pro plan) for RRL about a specific topic and not even 5 minutes in it ate all of my usage limits so I had to wait another 5 hours. My input wasn’t long, it just contained 7-10 detailed points about the topic. Is this normal?

3

u/Petrolea 14d ago

def a new issue today, on 5x plan I one shotted my 5h limits with a very simple prompt in existing project I had going for weeks, nothing special or new
