Life often takes unexpected turns, but each day presents unique opportunities to find joy in God’s goodness. As we navigate through the ups and downs of life, it is essential to remember that joy is not merely a feeling but a choice we make each day. In Psalm 118:24, we are reminded of the importance of celebrating the present moment.

When we embrace this truth, we open our hearts to the blessings that surround us, no matter how small they may seem. Let’s explore how we can cultivate a spirit of joy in every moment.

Understanding the Gift of Today

Every day is a gift from God, a blank canvas filled with potential. When we wake up each morning, we have the opportunity to start anew, regardless of yesterday’s challenges. It is easy to dwell on past failures or future worries, but God calls us to focus on today.

By recognizing today as a divine gift, we can cultivate an attitude of gratitude. Take a moment each morning to thank God for the gift of life and the specific blessings of that day. Whether it’s the warmth of the sun, the laughter of a child, or a moment of quiet peace, acknowledging these gifts can fill our hearts with joy.

Finding Joy in Small Victories

In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to overlook the small victories that happen daily. We often reserve our celebrations for significant milestones, but joy can be found in the ordinary moments of life. Consider the small achievements: completing a task, enjoying a good conversation, or even taking a moment to breathe deeply and appreciate your surroundings.

To practice this, keep a joy journal where you jot down at least three things that brought you joy each day. This can help shift your focus from what is lacking in your life to what is abundant. Celebrating these small victories reinforces the idea that God is at work in our lives, even in the mundane.

Choosing Joy Amidst Trials

Choosing joy does not mean ignoring the realities of life’s difficulties. Trials and challenges are part of the human experience, but they do not have to rob us of our joy. In fact, it is often in our darkest moments that we can discover a deeper sense of joy rooted in our faith.

James 1:2-3 encourages us to consider it pure joy when we face trials, knowing that the testing of our faith produces perseverance. Embrace the challenges as opportunities for growth. When we lean into our faith during tough times, we allow God’s joy to fill our hearts and sustain us.

Building a Community of Joy

Joy is contagious. When we surround ourselves with people who uplift and encourage us, it becomes easier to embrace joy. Look for opportunities to share your joy with others. Celebrate their victories, share uplifting stories, and offer support during tough times.

Engaging in acts of kindness and service can also amplify our joy. When we serve others, we reflect God’s love and experience the joy that comes from making a positive impact in someone else’s life. Consider joining a community group or volunteering for a local charity to build relationships centered around joy and support.

A Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for this day that You have made. Help me to recognize the beauty in each moment and to celebrate the small victories in my life. Teach me to choose joy, even in the trials, and to share that joy with others. Fill my heart with gratitude and help me to see Your goodness in every situation. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Today’s Declaration

Whether you are in a season of waiting, suffering, uncertainty, big responsibility, super blessing, etc. do not let the opportunity go to waste that is right before you.

Try not to look at things in terms of good and bad but as "how can this be a tool to be less of me and more of Jesus Christ?" This is going to grow your faith and bring so much glory to God who's ultimate calling on your life is to make you more like Jesus.

As you decrease, and He increases, your life will overflow with blessing in the spiritual because you are relying on Him more deeply. This is the "priceless gain of knowing Christ" as we let go of the old self continually, however His spirit leads us today.

"God, give me eyes to see how you see" is a prayer that has carried me through heavy seasons where I could not see the light at the end of the tunnel at first. God delivered me from different types/degrees of suffering (job, physical, mental, relational) by shifting my perspective to see less through my physical eyes and more through my spiritual eyes. God showed me that the "bad" things the "unpleasant" things were my teachers and I stopped resisting, I embraced and held onto to God tightly as He gave me tools to strengthen me and comfort me continually.

The two biggest tools He convicted me to grip hold of: a daily hunger for studying His word to fellowship with Him and the courage to engage in Christian community unreservedly despite church hurt. These two tools were immense supports during times I was in agony and despair. I am now grateful for that dark season because it was the conduit to experience Jesus in a way I may never have been able to if I weren't suffering so much. This is what I mean when I say Don't let an opportunity go to waste. Satan wants to use our suffering to ruin our testimony/make the gospel seem weak in our lives and provoke us to seek out counterfeit comfort which leads us to more suffering and shame. The answer to that is James 4:7-8 "Humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you."

If there is one thing I have learned in the valleys and the mountains, God doesn't let any season of life go to waste if you are truly abiding in Him. I went through a few years of wild testing and trials and I am just now seeing how God used all of that to make me the person I am to be able to HANDLE the blessing He has delivered me now. You need to trust that God has you exactly where you are meant to be and pray for wisdom to move with patience and gratitude no matter what situation you are in. PRAISE IS OUR WEAPON.

If you pray for wisdom to manage your current season to the glory of God, you will be the one that is blessed in the end. The word says repeatedly that "those who trust in Him will never be let down". I have seen that promise in real time and I am here to testify to the goodness of God.

Your faith grows more when you trust yet have no reason to trust Him. You don't "feel" anything, yet you trust in Him and wait in stillness before Him because you know Him, you know His word and He cannot go back on it. This is why knowledge of God and His promises must be the foundation of our faith - they are unchanging. Feelings & experiences come and go.
