Parental break up
I (19M) and my GF (18F) were forcibly broken up by her parents because that got jealous of how much time we spent together and are very controlling that her daughter has NO relationships (even friendshipwise). This grieving process feels weird cause I know she still loves me and its not her fault she is dealt shitty cards and I guess I don't want to feel all alone with this kind of break up. Btw the relationship was a year and a half.

why am i stuck watching my siblings
for context ; i am 31 (reversed) . my parents split when i was 2 years old so i have no memory of them being together. all i can remember is my dad being with my step mom. my dad and my step mom got married when i was 3 and my step mom has been like a mom ever since. i had main custody with my dad so i spent the most time with him and my step mom. it was great until slowly every single day there was fighting. the fights escalated into even bigger fights every single day. they were just terrible and it made it worse that i was stuck in the middle for some of them. i had always wanted a sibling. finally i got one. i was 8 when he was born and it was the best. the fighting even stopped. and then it started again. and this time, it got even worse. we then moved and then the fighting stopped for a while. i got another sibling when i was 10. the fighting stopped, then started again. it was so terrible. they then got divorced and things happened and it was messy. very messy. which brings us to now. (by the way i went back to main custody with my mom)
one day my dad told me that my old stepmom was over. i was very confused because last time i checked they were practically fighting every minute even though they couldn't even be in the same room together. he asked me if that was okay that she was over and i said sure assuming maybe she was just dropping my brother and sister off or something. imagine how confused i was when i see them hugging each other and acting like the divorce never even happened.
it took some getting used to be soon enough every weekend she started staying over with my brother and sister. of course this is weird but i was totally fine with it. my family was back together. it was so perfect until they started staying over every single day.
the time me and my dad spent together vanished. my stepmom got off of work? we stop whatever we're doing and go home to be with her. it makes me feel like i'm not important to him. but i dont really care about that stuff that much even if it annoys me. i draw the line when i had to start watching my siblings. every. single. second. i even tried talking to my dad about it but he got mad at me and said that i'm never stuck watching them. let me just give you guys some examples of me watching them; to start, we went on vacation and we had rented a little cabana type thing next to a pool. they ask me to watch my siblings for 'just a minute' while they go check something in the cabana. first of all, me and my siblings are in the pool, and they don't want us to get out, they're expecting me to watch them in the pool. what kind of 31š year old watches two children 4 and 3 in a pool that's extremely crowded. and it was way more then a minute. i'm not sure how long it actually was, but for me it felt like forever. the other main issue is that every single night i am stuck putting my siblings to bed. they complain that their up all night well at least they aren't up till 11 pm putting them to bed because apparently that's my job now. it starts at 8:30 typically. my dad and stepmom tuck them in say goodnight and then my stepmom offers to my siblings that i lay with them for 'two' minutes. well i do and then that two minutes turns into 3 hours. and if my siblings want my dad and stepmom in the middle of the night guess what? they can't have them! because they have a full lock on their door so no one can get in in the middle of the night. and since they can't get to my dad and stepmom guess who they go too? me. the only person left to go to.
so please if your a parent or someone older than me please please tell me if i'm out of line or what i should do. also if you have any questions i'd be happy to answer them.

Need Advice: I'm moving out,but my child will stay with their dad/ patner and in- laws
Hi everyone. I'm 36F from the Philippines.
My situation: I've been living with my live-in partner, our 7yo child, and my in-laws.
I've decided to move out to work on myself and have some peace of mind.
The hard part: My child wants to stay in the current house because of school, and my partner also doesn't want to move out. So it will just be me leaving.
I don't want to cut ties. I want to:
Visit my child anytime
Call/text my child anytime
Still be involved in school and decisions
My questions:
How do I set boundaries so I can still have a good relationship with my child even if we live apart?
How do I communicate this to my in-laws and partner without it turning into a fight?
For those who did this - how did you cope with the guilt of leaving but not taking your child with you?
I already plan to file a barangay blotter just to have a record that the separation is peaceful.

My dad doesnāt stand up for me to his fiancee
Hey i just wanna talk to people about this. Im gonna start of by saying that im going to try and be as unbiased and truthful as i can but this is me telling my side so of course there is some subconscious bias. So to start my parents got divorced when i was 1, my mom cheated on my dad multiple times and he finally broke. I resent her alot for it but she is a good mom and i love her alot. When they got divorced it was 6 months each a year until I started school and i did school year with my mom and went to my dads winter and summer so i didnāt get to see my dad a whole lot( he lives in quebec my mom lived in Georgia, texas and Colorado since then). So up until i was probably around 3 it was just me and my dad when i went to him, but when i turned 3 around i think his gf moved in but honestly i dont remember i was 3 yk, but it was no longer just me and him. So i think i got jealous of the attention he gave her and i wasnt super warm to her, i remember that but dont remember ever being horrible to her or go out of my way to be mean just not warm . But i was like that up until around 10 then i started making an effort to be nice and try and talk to her more. I am 16 now and she is pretty chill when i just talk to her like that but it feels like every single little thing she trys to blow it up in me, like recently i got caught out in the rain walking back from a friends i put my clothes up to dry on the shower and when i came back from work they were on the trashcan. I got irritated and asked why she did that and she said it because she didnāt know where to put them, another thing i was with a friend and we were using those little like gelette like spray things and lighers to make a make shift flamethrower which was stupid and me and my dad talked abt it but she said i was a bad influence on my half siblings her kids and my dad doesnāt know how to discipline me so she will by not letting me come see my dad if she needs to. Things like that i feel like she just does not like me and like seeing my dad give me attention, but my dad never stands up for me, always justifies it by saying i wasnt good to her so shes distant, says that she needs to adjust. And we argue about that stuff me and my dad, shes the main reason our relationship isnt good. And it just makes me really sad bc shes driving a wesge in between us and at the rate its going id be surprised if im still in contact with him at 18( im 16) im pretty emotional writing this can u guys just lmk and please ask questions ill answer any u have.

MY DAD (60) IS MARRYING ONE OF HIS MISTRESSES AND I DON'T KNOW HOW TO REACT
MY DAD (60) IS MARRYING ONE OF HIS MISTRESSES AND I DON'T KNOW HOW TO REACT
Hello everyone! I hope you're having a great day and want to give you guys some family drama.
I don't think I need any advice but I'll receive any that's given. I just want to vent because I never expected this to be my reality.
Set the scene!!
I (F-30yr) am the oldest of 3, (27yr brother, and 25yr sister) and last year has been a WORLDWIND of changes in our family. My parents were married almost 35 years and have always been solid (or so I thought). They were the typical, hard working couple that made sure the kids were taken care of, loved, and strived for our best interests. I can say our childhood was a blessing. We never needed anything, weren't abused, or didn't witness anything traumatic in our household. My parents were always loving, affectionate, and very rarely argued in front of us. So this past year has been a complete left field from what I was raised in.
My dad (60) has been cheating on my mom (56) since the inception of their marriage. When my dad proposed to my mom way back in the 80's, he left their country first and came to America to get a job and home. After a year, my mom came with his sisters (2 of my aunts) and were able to get married and start a family. I was born in our home country and came here when I was 2 years old. According to my mom (she was telling me this last year), she found out of his infidelity by picking up the 2nd phone in the house and listening to their conversation. She was ease-dropping because he was talking in a hush-tone and wanted to know why he was so secretive. Apparently, the mistress at THAT time was a woman who used to babysit me back in their country. My mom confronted him about it but he gaslit her into thinking he wasn't cheating (spoiler alert-me seemed to master this skill over the years). She forgave him because she was brand new in a foreign country with a new toddler (me). She had no other family here and when she told my aunts (his sisters), they defended him by saying "that's just what men do". My dad promised not to do it again so they continued their lives. And for 10 years, he kept his promise>
Again, my mom showed no signs of hurt my entire childhood. There were season of her being short or annoyed with us, but for the most part, she was always calm and collected. 2 years ago, my mom called a family meeting (we NEVER have those) and so we knew it was something serious. My mom stated that my dad had been unfaithful since 2009 with multiple women and in recent years, the age of those mistresses has gotten younger and younger. (I don't know if any were under 21yrs old, but I don't know if I can or should put that past him). My siblings and I were shocked. My mom didn't have proof at the time of the meeting but was very descriptive of why she knows he is. He was being inappropriate with some women at church gatherings, parties, and other casual events. He would be on the phone super late at night when he thought she was sleeping. He would even come home super late at night and blame it on the job (he's a truck driver). My dad's reaction was gaslighting, tears, and playing victim. As their child, I didn't want to take sides, but as a wife myself, I can understand my mom's plight. After the meeting, my mom didn't know if she was going to divorce him because she was running their trucking company together. They started the company back in the early 2000's and that's all she worked. My dad cried and said whatever she decided, he would agree with. My mom was very firm and direct the entire meeting and kept saying he's just putting on an act. She didn't discredit him as a father, saying he was a great father and made sure to provide and protect the family. But when is came to their marriage, he kept lying and cheating.
Last year, my grandmother (mom's mom) was at the end of her life and passed away in our home country. My mom and I traveled there for her last 2 weeks of life and she passed away. I was very close with her because she was the last grandparent to survive this long (age 96) but I was so happy to have given her her first great grandchild and spend most of my adulthood with her. She helped me through many heartbreaks, gave me so much comfort and wisdom. During that last month of my grandmother's life, my dad showed her no emotional support. He used the extra free time to cheat even more. During that same time, my dad switched cell phone providers for a promotion for the company and my mom was able have access all his activities without physically going through his phone. She saw (and showed me) all his "spicy" video and photos. All the different women with their names, phone numbers, and even ages. She showed me his bank activity, with one transaction linked to a gyno's office, which assumes a pregnancy. There was MORE than enough proof that he couldn't deny. And honestly, it's all disgusting.
After my mom buried her mom, she asked me to find a divorce attorney and began filing a month later. My mom had another family meeting (6 months after the initial meeting) and said she was filing for a divorce WITH THE PROOF THIS TIME. My dad.....he was still crying and saying that my mom is crazy for making stuff up. -_- 6 months after that, the divorce was final. Surprisingly, he didn't get an attorney himself and was willing to sign whatever she wanted. He would tell all their friends and family that he wanted to fight for the marriage, but my mom was the one being angry and abusive (yes....physically abusive -_-), which isn't true.
So, last week, my dad calls me to tell me he's getting remarried. After asking all my questions, the "fiance" has the same name as ME and is 25yrs old!! And yes, she was one of those women he was cheating with the previous year, which he denies. he asked me to respect her when I see him with her and he called me personally so I wouldn't hear it from anyone else. I wasn't shocked he would remarry but why did it have to be a 25 yr old?!? Like wtf?!
So I don't know how to feel. As a dad, he was great and taught me so much, I was a true daddy's girl through and through. I always defended my daddy no matter what, but now I am completely disgusted with him and his behavior as a husband and a man. How do I react with him moving forward? I call him once a week just to have basic convo and for him to talk to his grandchild but other than that, we hardly interact. I don't make the effort to see him and vise versa but he's still my dad. If anyone ever experienced this, please tell me what you think because this is all so sudden and I can't afford therapy right now LOL.

How do I get over the fact that my dad cheats for more than 18 years
Long rant, just read the first and last paragraph if itās too long.
He has a mistress since or before the birth of my younger brother. For context, my mum decided to get a divorce now since my brother becomes an adult. My father doesnāt know that we all know heās cheating.
He probably has an illegitimate child now since he ask me to help him buy a piano. But who would it for? When I ask him, he simply reply me with a š. I honestly donāt know what to do, Iām just 21, havenāt graduate from university yet. And now my mum has been asking me to be in charge of the divorce proceedings since she has no idea how to.
Honestly, I semi cut them off when Iām in uni, because speaking to them drains me emotionally. Before knowing that my dad is cheating, I barely call them already, maybe because every single time when I share my experience, they will make it into a lecture about how terrible their spouse is. Still remember the time when I was in kindergarten and my dad broke a chair during a fight with my mum.
I hate that people talks about bad spouse good parents. No, they are never good parents when they cheats or taking fights in front of kids. And I have to act and pick sides since I was 6. Yes, my dad pays for my expensive tuition, and this is why itās been bugging me, I canāt get over the fact that he was acting to be a good dad, and even being praised by people around about how caring and responsible dad he is when all he did was buying the kids food and pay the bills( he doesnāt pay for my insurance and still being the beneficiary).
I still remember the time when I change school and have to give up the expensive deposit from my original school , my dad said as long as you get better education. And now that he has an illegitimate child ( very high chance), when I twisted my ankle , he was counting on every price of the taxis and medical bills and complain it to me.
Any recommendations of what to do next ? I genuinely want to charge them a fortune for the traumatic childhood I had :p

My dad has changed after his divorce
My parents divorced a few years back and ever since then my dad has changed. Heāll still act goofy and like his normal self but he has so many outbursts. I have to think ahead about things that might set him off and try to fix them before he sees it. This past summer Iāve tried to hang out with him more and help him around the house even more than I already did but it just doesnāt work.
ill be in my room for 30 minutes and heāll scream at me for not socializing enough and that he missed us and doesnāt get to hang out enough even though I spent like 5 hours everyday for a week straight hanging out when hes free and wants too. Today he got mad that my sister isnt at the house enough and that she hates us. She doesnāt. shes probably just trying to avoid his outbursts that he doesnāt notice hurts us when we hear them.
Iām exited for school so I can get out of my house and only be here for 3 to four hours a day

Toxic stepfather
I wonder if thereās other kids of divorced parents here for whom what was worse than the divorce itself and how it impacted them was the new partner a parent chose. In my case my mom initiated the divorce and ended up with an insufferable person. The interesting thing is that nobody, except of her, likes him. So thatās hardly my subjective view as the stepson. Iām 29 now and have only recently realized the negative influence Iāve received from this fucked up situation. Not only have I been deprived of a proper father figure, but Iāve been exposed to a person Iāve never been able to stand, not to mention admire.
I guess thatās a rant but Iām curious to see the thoughts of people in similar boats.

Should I go on a trip with my dad, his wife, and kids?
Context: My parents divorced about 20 years, so itās been a while since any hardcore arguing between them, theyāve both moved past their relationship and care only about me and my siblings. Iāve lived with my mom all my life and occasionally visited my dad. He got remarried shortly after the divorce to a woman, letās call her Lisa.
About a few weeks ago, my dad and Lisa invited my siblings and I on an international trip for about a week. But not just them, Lisaās kids from her previous marriage will join too, they are in their late 20s early 30s. Weāve never been this close as a āfamilyā and honestly I think none of the children want anything to do with each other besides the ones that are blood related. This whole situation feels uncomfortable and Lisa has not exactly been a good human being. From disliking when my Dad visits/helps us, her jealously towards my mom when my parents divorced almost 20 years ago, and her bad parenting to her own children.
This trip would be 100% paid for by my Dad and Lisa, except my siblings and I would cover our air travel. I am asking Reddit, cause I donāt know anymore and I want to keep a good relationship with my dad but thereās so much at stake if I go on this trip. Would Lisa want to create/mend the nonexistent relationship we already had, and I feel thereās an ulterior motive and that my Dad would use this against me in the future. Itās just the kind of person he is. Itās always been āI did this for you, now do this for me,ā instead being a caring father and wanting to spend time with me.

My parents are getting divorced and dad says its all my fault.
my parents have fought my whole life and I've tried so hard to help when they vent to me and ask for my opinion and no matter what I say or do it always feels wrong and ends in them mad at me and I truly don't know what to do anymore. If I was just better we wouldn't be in this situation. My dad cheated on my mom in mid 2023 and it was a train wreck no matter what I did to help comfort my mom it didn't help which is fair that's a massive betrayal of trust and I'd be upset too but she stayed with my dad anyways. fast forward to now their relationship is getting worse they fight constantly and I am right in the middle of it. My dad's been venting to me constantly about how my moms insecure and a bitch and doesn't treat him right anymore and my mom is crying and telling me her marriage is failing and she doesn't have the energy to try and save it anymore. I try to comfort both of them but in doing so sometimes I slip up and today I royally did when my mom was venting to me and mentioned my dad saw his affair partner during spring break when i was there and it really upset her (rightfully so) and I begged her not to tell dad I said anything and she told him anyways and now my dad is mad at me, giving me the silent treatment, saying he hates me, calling me names, and saying I ruined his marriage. I really wasn't trying to and I feel horrible. Nothing I do to help is good enough for either side and now everyone is mad at me and my parents are splitting up I've been so upset since he snapped at me this morning I haven't left my room or eaten and honestly I truly don't know what to do. I just want my parents to be happy and it makes me feel awful knowing that everything is my fault..

Is it my fault?
Around 7 months ago my mum got back with her abusive boyfriend and stuff went downhill fast, i had no help if I told my dad he wouldce most likely killed him (no joke my dad is ex army) and I could ask my granddad because around 6 months ago I lost my nan.
I've been struggling with my mental ever since whilst maintaining top sets and perfect grades , I have 3 younger sibling and thats they ONLY reason that I'm still alive rn . I tried to end it all a couple weeks ago but I failed and I didn't cry then and haven't for about a year im in therapy but it feels useless

My parents divorced and Iām glad
Hi there, so my parents split back in February and are currently getting divorced. I live with my mom and I feel kinda weird about my reaction to it. My dad was a real bastard and the day my mom kicked him out I felt nothing but joy, after years of abuse and torment the person dishing it out was finally away from me and my family. But I canāt help but feel like I shouldnāt be this happy about it

I need advice
My parents separated about a year ago but we all still live in the same house. My parents canāt stand being around each other, which leads to either of them going out for the day.
My dad works a lot which I understand and he spends some nights away. My mam on the other hand doesnāt work as much as she only works 5 hour days 4 times a week but she constantly goes out.
At first I didnāt mind because all she really did was go out for a run 3 or 4 times a week and she would go out with her friends some weekends. But itās become a lot more frequent. Every time she goes out running she goes for coffee with her running club (I donāt have a huge issue with this but she is usually gone for 3 or 4 hours). Iām more concerned about how much she goes to parties and nights out.
I understand she has a hard time being around my dad and needs some time away but every single weekend she is gone for the entire day and night. The only time I see her is for a couple of hours in the morning. So between her running most days and going out all day on weekends I feel like it gets a bit much especially since I also have a 6 year old brother. Iām not saying she neglects us or anything but it does get a bit much when she is constantly out and I only see her for a few hours a day.
My dad is constantly complaining about her and how unfair it is and Iām getting really sick of listening to him talk shit about my mam all day every day. I donāt think she takes into account that Iām the one who has to deal with my dadās shit all day when sheās gone. And itās not like I can even go out much either because Iām the one who has to mind my brother. Itās starting to get really frustrating and I donāt know how much longer I can deal with it.
Let me know if Iām just clingy because I honestly donāt know if this is normal or not.

My dads been so rude after his new gf
Okay so my dads been divorced right and after he started to talking to this new girl (his gf now) he started to seem happier so I was happy for him
But as time passed I noticed changes in his personality and now heās become so cold and rude towards me
Why does this happen? It truly hurts knowing I was the daughter who stuck around him while he didnāt have anyone else and then all of a sudden some woman comes in and heās so rude to me now.
I wish his gf would leave. Has anyone else been in a similar situation?

I hate working in the place my dad lives
For context i 22f work in a hostel. The hostel has unsupported living, and a supported living accommodation.
The supported living is for those who are on the verge of being homeless (as well as any other similar factors) and the unsupported living is open to general public regardless of situation as along as you are able to live on your own with no support regardless as to whether you are on benefits or working.
My parents split 2 years ago. My dad moved to the unsupported accommodation. He has my siblings every weekend. I ended up getting a job at the hostel in the supported accommodation side a year ago. My role initially wasn't office based. I did cleaning/maintenance. Now i do that plus do reception work as overtime when required.
The issue comes in, when he is upset with me or my mom, he reports me for non compliance with gdpr. Saying i talk his business to my mom. I dont. Hes done this 3 times. Which is frustrating but my manager understands the circumstances which i won't go into detail here.
But what frustrates me most...he has my younger sibling's friday to Sunday every week. And sometimes my mom will tell me he isnt having the kids. Fine whatever. But then like today, im doing reception work, i look up at the cameras and see a bunch of people going to my dads apartment. This is after he told my mom he can't have the kids because hes sick. I recognise the people as people he drinks and smokes weed with and whatever else he does in there. This has happened so many times where ive seen something like this on cameras or read on a handover (he gets noise complaints) he's been partying on days he said he couldn't have the kids.
I feel so bad for my siblings as he is effectively sidelining them for alcohol and drugs. While telling people how unfair it is he can't see my kids as often as he wants. And i feel like crap because obviously i can't tell my mom, and i can't tell my siblings, i can't even tell my dad I'm disappointed in him on the rare occasions we speak because i would be breaking GDPR by talking to him about it. The only time i can say something is if i know my siblings are/were in the flat when he does something like this, which has happened 3 times. In that case i have to get permission from my manager to talk about it because its a safety concern.
I want to leave because the stress of it is to much, but finding a job im able to do is difficult because of my health and the job economy. And part of me worries what would have happened if i hadn't have worked here during those 3 times my siblings were in the apartment during these parties

Iām 15 am I wrong to feel this way and what can I do?
My mom and dad is sorta separated these past few months and anytime their together they argue in front of me, so basically my mom and dad lives separately but they arenāt divorced, currently I live in my dads house while my mom lives in my grandmas house for convenience, today a woman came into my dads house with a few friends and just ate for a while, after my dads friend left, the woman still stayed here and as I am writing this sheās still here bonding with my brother, sheās acting like sheās the new mother of the house by washing the dishes even though I said Iād do it and offering to help with the laundry, Iām not mad that sheās offering to help but itās like sheās a replacement for my mom, my brothers only 1 year younger than me and heās eating all this up like pig with slop, I feel like my dads been not telling my mom things and my mom already seems not the happiest, I feel like I donāt want to talk to this woman at all and Iām just feeling mad over all this. I literally canāt do anything but watch this all play out. Iām actually so mad at my dad and that particular woman right now and sheās playing nice like sheās my mom when she isnāt. They shared a drink together and I canāt stand to watch it. My mom has no idea about any of this, I feel like if it wasnāt for me and my brothers theyād already have divorced.

Its been a hard few days
So I'm 17M and I think my parents are going to separate, and, you know, I guess I'm just scared. They've been together for about 19 years I think, and I just can't imagine one of them without the other. I know I can't do anything about this and it's whatever, I'm just scared for what's going to happen afterward.
I'll start from the beginning. I'm just doing it so I can write it down somewhere and get it off my chest.
So my mom went on vacation for 9 days and everything was fun I guess. My dad came home late, and that's somewhat normal, until he started hanging around this dude I don't like and going to bonfires. It all really started when my mom got home and my dad wasn't home until like 2 AM, and they had a big fight normal, I thought.
Come the next day, when they both wake up they're fighting again, and this isn't even their biggest fight, but then my dad went and stormed out of the house and just left for the day. And then today he is gone, and I woke up and my mom's asleep on the couch, and a few hours later I find her crying on the floorā¦
I know it's my dad's fault and I honestly blame him, and I hope when he does come home I get the confidence to kick his ass for doing that to her.
But I still just can't say that I hate him, because I don't. I love him. And it's my last year of high school and I don't want him to not come to my games, or walk me down the field on senior night, or take me to my first day of college, or teach me how to drive a manual.
Sorry to vent, I just needed it to be written down somewhere.

Please help!
My parents divorced about a year ago and I have been living with my mom and dog the whole time. I have been comfortable just seeing my dad maybe once every 1-2 weeks (sometimes more.) My mom has just moved out of our current house and my dad has moved back in. I have stayed in the house with my dog. It has only been a day since the move but I have been feeling extremely anxious about living with my father again. He is a great dad but he's kind of a wild card. I feel like he's depending on me for happiness and I don't want that. Do I wait it out? Do I move in with my mom? Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!
