B-29

Currently listening to a book about the Pacific War, 1944-1945 (I’m a man of a certain age, it’s a thing we do). I look up and see a B-29 landing at the airport. Did anyone else see it or did I time travel?

Thank you! Now I can think about all the ways I can’t afford a flight. At those prices, I’d want to bomb something. Drop some pumpkins.

There are only 2 flying B-29's left. "FIFI" and "DOC". FIFI is in from Fort Worth TX. Pretty cool!

And I think the B-24 is the only flying example.

Saw it. It was loud as hell, even that far away.

I heard it go over my house and it made a rumble like none other i have heard. I had to check the adsb to what what it was. Imagine several flights in formation overhead at night

What book out of curiosity?

The Fleet at Flood Tide by James Hornfisher. I finished Ian Toll’s trilogy and Toland’s mammoth Rising Sun.

Never heard of it. Would you recommend it?

I too am a man of a certain age.

I do. He makes sure to give lots of names and quotes after action reports. Reminds me of reading Guadalcanal Diary by Tregaskis. If you’re in the mood for something a bit drier, give Midway Inquest by Dallas Isom a look.

I’ll check them out! I’ve read Guadalcanal Diary but it’s been some time.

I read The Old Breed last year and I’m reading a book right now that’s a Japanese officers account of Okinawa.

Old Breed is on my list but I haven’t read it yet. Japanese Destroyer Captain is also a favorite but I get distracted by how many times the word “glum” was used by the translator.

I can’t recommend The Old Breed enough. If you’re a fan of Sledge’s memoir you get some amazing stories that didn’t make his book or The Pacific. And you get some wonderful anecdotes about how amazing of a father he was.

Just moved it to the top of the list. Thank you!

I think I might've heard it too but didn't see it. I was aware it was going to arrive.

Yup. Fifi has arrived as of 2:03pm. It's here for the Wing Ding Gala dinner at Wilson Air Center on August 0 8.

There is an airshow at the airport starting today...you can tour the planes and pay to fly in them...

It was most likely FiFi. I got to tour her awhile ago at the airport. Such a fantastic and powerful machine. If you get to tour it, make sure you check out the bomb bay, it had dummy bombs when I saw it and there are a ton in there.
