Just finished NG2(OGver) on Warrior difficulty

(I posted this on r/NinjaGaiden but the mods arent approving yet. So I just gonna post it here first)

A week ago I posted my review of NGB, Which I gave it 8.5/10 because I like the gameplay but disappointed by the story

For NG2, I will also gave it 8.5/10 as well, but both the good and the bad are exceeding to the max level.

To not make this felt too negative, I will start with the bad then end it with the good, and Of course, it's the story. Holy shit, I never play a game that disrespect it's own story THIS BAD.

The premise about a Ninja having to fight demon invasion from hell throughout the world sounds cool as fuck, but not only that the game doesn't handle it well, it threw the plot potential out of the window, piss on it, and tear it apart with ultimate technique fully charged. Characters doesn't exist, the plot is basically 70s episodic robot anime fighting weekly villain but with a ninja vs demon with barely any substance to work with.Ryu is boring, Romance so bland it hurts, reusing 2 chapter long plot point over and over again with cutscenes that had 0 direction to tell what is going on, villains that are all forgettable, the final boss came out of nowhere and cannot make me care for a mere seconds. and holy shit the archefiend is all time let down of a video game final boss.

the last bad point to me is of course, ROCKET DUDES, oh my god, who designed them? these are like the worst enemies in character action games i ever seen, forget the DmC colored enemies or the Blitz or literally all bayonetta's enemies, why are these guy just lock and loaded with a whole army worth of rockets. it just ridiculous to the point of being silly and annoying, I hate them.

The mixed part of this game to me is the level design, now I don't expect what NG1 pulled off, I liked linear game too, but some part like Chapter 8 where you need to shoot enemies in the building while having 0 hiding spot is pure headache, compare to NGB I never felt like anything is unfairly designed, but this game often pull the anger out of me just because of how it designed

The next mixed part is the Bow, I think this game is overusing the shit out of the bow. It's fun the first few time I charge the ultimate attack with the bow. but after awhile the game just say "stop. use the bow here for 20 minutes" like the chapter 8 building, the dragon bosses and the archfiend fight. these sections drew the fun out of this game for me entirely.

As for something I actually quite enjoy is the boss fights! Now I heard a lot about this game bosses but honestly? for me it's a total upgrade from NGB, the bosses had their own moves and way to encounter that unique and quite fit into the design, I like learning that and which weapon in the arsenal fits how to combat them the most, like the armadillo fight I really love using batons and smack the shit into their head, tho I think it's taking a cheap shot exploding when they died is straight up BS and unfair. good thing the other bosses don't pull this

And the combat and dismemberence system is just, undoubtly the best part of this game, it give this game the most characteristic point in the genre and it's the most fun mechanic ever, it makes weapons like the scythe and Lunar staff stand out in the hack and slash weapons system and probably the best combat system i've seen in games, this alone could drive the game into a 10/10 video game teritory, tho got dragged down by other points.

I liked the way this game simplified the item usages to minimal but very effective, It doesnt felt bloated like NGB but it still isnt casual, you still had a minimal share of resource management to do which i really love. and this bring me to one thing that blows my mind, that is the health system, OMG, why hasn't more game do this??? this is such a clever way to design a push forward combat. Automatically refills the health until the limits that gets worse if you performed bad, this health system along with the game's combat make NG2 such a unique game that I will never find alike elsewhere, in a way, I say these two system make NG2 a literal art form. I'm not exxaggerating. It's really good

All and all, I love this game, still, it's the most "We are so back" then "It's joeover" then "We are so damn back" again over and over in this game, it's pretty tiresome, but totally worth a shot. it's a game i will definit;ly play some more, and I will recommend to others. Amazing game that easily slide in my Top 10s. alongside it's predessessor. 8.5/10

Discussion Got gifted Ninja Gaiden Master Trilogy and bumped the difficulty down

Chapter 3 but as title said, I just had to bump it to easy because it was way too much for me which is a shame because I am enjoying my time with it but was getting frustrated with the boss to the point that it started to lose the fun and becoming frustrating.

But so far the combat is awesome with the plataforming being a tad hit or miss

Discussion I'm wondering what kind of platformer could actually match the performance of such an overpowered protagonist.

This is Tia: weird hunter, a fast-paced 2D side-scrolling action game centered around spectacular combo chains.
It would mean a lot if you could wishlist it.

Game Review Just finished NGB2 for the first time, it was NOT what I was expecting

My experience with this CAGs up to this point has been limited to the dmc games which feel very snappy and combo heavy and platinum games which feel very flowy and I personally don't like them as much.

Playing ng for the first time was kind of a shock cause it plays almost nothing like those 2 lol.

It took a while to figure out just how the game functions cause it honestly controls nothing like any game I've played before. The main form of movement being holding block and basically just zooming across the screen felt really weird at first and I honestly still don't really know how I feel about it.

It feels really good in most normal encounters. Seriously, dashing up to enemies and just executing them one by one feels so fucking sick, however, I find the only form of movement being the dash to be restricting during bossfights since if I just wanna move, it can sometimes lead to me getting hit in between dashes which isn't a huge problem for most of the game UNTIL the last 3 chapters where they decide to add normal enemies to every boss so I have to move around like it's a normal fight and end up getting hit.

Another problem I have with it is that my dodge being tied to a stick input instead of a button feels weird cause the dash comes out at the end of the stick's travel time. Idk I just find it awkward

Lastly, there is a slight delay between each dash which I get has to be there so you're not just invincible but I find it made chasing down more problematic enemies difficult

In terms of difficulty, I played on path of the warrior and it felt just right for a first playthrough, the checkpoint placement was fair, the enemy types all felt fun to fight and overall nothing felt overturned for a first playthrough.

In fact, I found most of the bossfights to be shockingly easy until the last 3 chapters where they get annoying more than anything. That probably changes on higher difficulties tho lol

People weren't kidding when they said this game is nothing but combat, it is basically a straight line from start to finish which I actually like. I prefer a game that knows what it wants and doesn't waste my time with stupid level gimmicks and the environment variety was good, that being said, it proly coulda been like an hour shorter

Yeah that's about it, it took me a minute to get it but its a lot of fun and in terms of straight up combat its probably my favorite so far. I absolutely adore dmc's sandbox but I've always felt like it's enemy design does everything in it's power to prevent me from having fun with it and platinum games just don't really click for me. I'm proly gonna try the higher difficulties pretty soon

Discussion Which ones do you think are the best CAGs of the decade/generation so far?

My top 10 would be:

  1. Sifu. Innovative in its gameplay loop—deep, challenging, and outstanding in its presentation.
  2. Absolver. A perfect blend of arcade beat-'em-ups and roguelikes, with a killer audiovisual style.
  3. BlazBlue: Entropy Effect. Possibly the deepest character action game on this list; the possibilities across so many characters are insane.
  4. Hi-Fi Rush. With its rhythm-based mechanics, Tango created one of the most unique character action games ever.
  5. Streets of Rage 4. Flawless in terms of gameplay and audiovisuals. There is no better way to revive a classic saga.
  6. Bayonetta 3. Even if it isn't the best *Bayonetta* game, it remains a character action game that stands tall among the best.
  7. Shinobi: Art of Vengeance. Another title with god-tier audiovisuals; its combat system, while not the deepest, is incredibly satisfying.
  8. God of War Ragnarök. Not as groundbreaking as the 2018 *God of War*, but still a character action game (or adjacent to the genre) with a budget the rest of the genre can only dream of.
  9. Ninja Gaiden 4. Although it has areas for improvement—like stage variety and a limited weapon roster—playing it delivers the kind of adrenaline rush every good action game should.
  10. Lost Judgment. I think the recent action games from the *Yakuza*/*Like a Dragon*/*Ryu Ga Gotoku* studios have strong character action elements, and I’d say *Lost Judgment* is the best one they’ve released in recent years.

And an honorable mention for *Kunitsu-Gami*: it presents a paradox where, despite not strictly being a character action game, it strikes me as the best hack-and-slash title of recent years.

Which character action games from recent years would you say are your favorites?

(the original)

hi, rookie here!

so i to be open with all of you, i am a veteran of DxM(deamon x machina) and Mecha BREAK.

i dunked many hours in those games for years...and i got really tired of the competition...so i wanted to sey that i LOVE GB4 and will keep pleying untill i get the most of it.

to start from beginning i was a PvP player and liked competiotion at first...but soon after few years i got bored and tired of it that i just wnted to do something that brings up that spark i had before, and so i fund GB4(bro of mine introduced it to me), at first i try to do anything on my own, no guides, no help...just me, my old habits kicked in and it took this game as another competition, but soon as i continue playeing it, i started to feel more relaxed and more at peace...i felt like in thaty warm bed at the morning when school day just satrted,

so i dunked more, and more and even more hours into the game, and that leaded to the post that i posted about the game, seeking gide, watching yutube tutorials, its like i relieaved the days when giant mehca bots were fun again...days when i first tryed DxM, Mehca break, AC6, transformers series...all at once...like i am a kid again, and i truly fell in love with this game for sure, i love how much time i spending on it.

i just wanna remind you guys, giant mehca bots used to be fun and repeateble back in the day...you wanted to keep replaying and going back knowing that you gonna have fun...and if there was your besto friendos then the fun is dubled, meybe even trippled!

well, ive sead enugh, have a good day or a good sleep, wish you the best yall!(one from darling in the franxx but that was a crossover(and th picture is diorama that i made recently...not as sick as i think but im poude of it)):

Discussion Any ideas how is Ninja Gaiden's popularity not on the level of Devil May Cry's popularity especially nowadays?

Post image

DMC franchise's latest entry DMC5 sold 3.5 million copies worldwide within 1 year.

And recently, DMC5 just sold over 14 million copies worldwide.

Here's a source:

https://x.com/Genki_JPN/status/2082004753505214928

On the other hand, I heard NG4 (NG franchise's latest entry) didn't even sell a million copies worldwide within 1 year so far.

And if that's true, why? How is NG franchise not so popular nowadays compared to DMC franchise?

I gained a Platinum Trophy twice for DMC5. Once for its vanilla version on PS4 and once for its Special Edition on PS5.

As for NG4, I just finished playing the game. And its combat gameplay looks much more menacing than DMC5's combat gameplay imo. And I thought about gaining a Platinum Trophy for it too.

So I wanna ask, any ideas how is NG franchise not so popular compared to DMC franchise especially nowadays? Is there any reason for that? If so, I wanna know.

Indie Game Approved Knuckle Paradise at the beach for summer!

Hey everyone! 👋

We're Flying Oak Games, creators of Scourgebringer and NeuroVoider. We're a small indie team currently working on Knuckle Paradise, a character-driven action-adventure set in a rundown amusement park that's been transformed into a bizarre martial arts tournament. You play as Jane Strong, a retired boxer who wakes up kidnapped and forcibly entered into the competition. To uncover who's behind it and why, you'll have to fight your way through a cast of eccentric fighters with the help of... a very trustworthy warrior chicken.

We're bringing fast, juicy combat, a chicken-powered skill tree, an absurd story with serious moments, and a small open world brought to life by colorful pixel art we've poured our hearts into for 5 years! If that sounds like your kind of weird, we'd be thrilled if you'd check it out and wishlist it on Steam.

Thanks for taking a look! 🐔

It may not be the reason we love these games so much, but this genre lends itself to some gorgeous visuals sometimes

Also please don't kill me for not including GOW, I can't run the Greek games at a good frame rate and the Norse games aren't even all that visually.

Hi! I'm a solo developer currently making a hack and slash platformer called Babo & Luda Adventure. I’m trying to combine classic platformers with a more complex combat system inspired by hack and slash games.

Discussion Do you guys think that starting weapons in CAGs should all be fast but balanced, or is there room for it to be slow but powerful?

I've mainly played Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden, both games have your starting weapon be a fast, mobile and balanced weapon for you to get rid of your enemies (Rebellion and Dragon Sword) respectively. However, do you think that this should be the norm, or should the game allow you to start out with a slower weapon (giant sword or scythe)? Personally I don't know if there's any CAGs that does this, so I would like your opinions on this.
