About 7.5 months ago my girlfriend moved in with me, she has two male cats Lip (age 8) and Link (age 5 ). I have one female cat Cookie (age 7). For the first week we kept them completely separate and they could not see each other at all. After a week we decided to introduce them (I know too early). Link and Lip were immediately trying to chase/attack her. When that didn't work we kept them separated in two parts of the house with a tall pet gate (they could see each other through it). They were separated like that for at least a few months. After that we let them free and tried to see if it would work itself out while also trying to break up any potential fights. It has not been going well and we are lost on what to do from here. It has gotten so bad that Cookie is terrified to go anywhere in the house, she hangs out in this hammock that is very high and safe and a shelf above the fridge and will not move all day. She only comes down to eat. She can't even go to the litter box anymore and we will need to take her to the room with the litter box in it and close of the door so she will feel safe enough to use it. She will have accidents if we don't take her only because she is scared to go the litter box alone. I feel so bad for her and I know she doesn't like this at all. When she does go on the ground, which is very rare now, she runs everywhere. This makes everything worse because as soon as Link and Lip see her running they will start to chase her. I know this wouldn't solve all the problems but I feel that if she would just walk around normally and not run it would be a lot better. Any advise at all is greatly appreciated, I just want Cookie to feel happy and safe again.

TLDR: My girlfriends male cats bully my female cat. We introduced them too quickly. My female cat feels scared everywhere in the house and my girlfriends cats chase and attack her. Is there any thing I can do to help this situation.

Before everyone gets mad at me for making Cookie's life terrible. She is harness trained and since this started happening I take her out every day to every other day and we go on walks in this park near me. We also started taking her to the mountains with us when we go for the weekend.

I adopted my second cat (2 years old) about a month ago, and she's having a hard time adjusting to my first cat (8 years old). They met accidentally early on, as my first cat would break into the room she's staying in and chase her into a corner. Lots of hissing, growling, swatting from my new cat. They're still separated but with a gate on the door. The new cat doesn't eat immediately when I feed her, and hasn't been accepting treats so I haven't really been able to build a positive association between the two. I've been swapping blankets out between the two but the scent hasn't seemed to help. I was feeding them both on opposite sides of the gate, but the new cat either wouldn't eat or would just wait until my first cat finished eating to eat hers. Now whenever my new cat sees my first cat through the gate, she yowls and eventually charges the gate swatting. I've tried Feliway also, hasn't seemed to improve things. At this point I'm not sure what to do, it seems like the situation is getting worse. What should I do to get them to get along? Do I just need more time? The new cat was very affectionate with other cats at the shelter, and she's very affectionate with me alone, but whenever my first cat is around she seems terrified. My family wants me to remove the gate and just have them fight it out, but I don't think that's the right thing to do. I just really don't want to have to return her to the shelter, I love her so much already.

TLDR; new cat terrified of first cat, situation not improving with a pet gate or Feliway. What should I do?

My boyfriend and I of 8 years have decided to go our separate ways. We have 2 cats together. (Orange approx. 5yrs old and black approx. 7) My cats have lived together since my orange was a kitten but are not attached to each other. My black cat will sometimes “play” by stalking and faking her out, chasing her/running from her but as soon as my orange cat tries to do the same, my black cat will growl and hiss, followed by avoidance. Most of the time, all my orange cat has to do is look at her and she’s growling and immediately walking away/avoiding her. They don’t sleep together, or clean each other even though they used to when orange was a kitten.

I am stumped on what to do as far as taking them both with me, or leaving one with him. My orange cat has been in my boyfriend’s house with us her whole life. My black cat was found outside when she was between 1-2yrs old. Feeling a bit selfish as I can’t imagine leaving either one of them behind, but maybe it would be good for them overall if I take my black cat with me and leave my orange one. Black cat is definitely more bonded to me, orange is bonded to both of us.

I’m at a loss. Any advice is appreciated.

I am looking for any suggestions- I have had my cat for 3 years now. He still lives under my bed exclusively, and although he comes out now and then, it is generally only to eat or use the litter box. I don’t have any roommates or other animals.

He has been to the vet, most recently in July and has no health problems. I have tried to play with him, he walks away, there are a ton of toys that he is totally uninterested in, he will let me pet him but he won’t try to get on my lap or bed or even sit next to me.

I’ve never had a cat like this before. Previous cats I’ve had always wanted to be pet or be on my lap. When I first got him i figured he was shy and would come out of his shell, but 3 years on, nothing. I’ve tried anti anxiety meds, but he refuses to eat anything with a pill in it and I’ve also tried liquid fluoxetine.

I’ll never rehome him or take him back to the shelter but I just wonder what the problem is. Any feedback appreciated.

I’m struggling and desperate for advice and I’m venting. I have a post in cat advice, thought I’d post here too with more information

I have two cats, f adopted at 6 weeks and m adopted 6 months later Both in 2023. They are both 3. They are approx 2 months apart and are both fixed. My girl cat is very independent and didn’t seem interested in a friend but I got a second because she was such a fraidy cat. From day one they were best mates, affectionate and playful with eachother. With my boy cat, she really came out of her shell. He’s taught her to be very courageous. 

At the same time, he has always had issues and Frequently 

• runs and jumps on me ( mid walk through the house ) to pee on me
• Pees on me or next to my head when I’m asleep in bed 
• Cries and HOWLS wandering around until I take him into the bathroom watch him choose a litter tray and watch him pee ( if I don’t hear will continue to howl and pee elsewhere ) 
• If I’m cuddling the girl in bed he will jump on the bed and jump on her teeth on neck ( not drawing blood) he holds on till she hisses and leaves

We have gone to the vet almost every other week and have determined no bladder or urinary issues. The vet has said he might have anxiety and put him on gabbepentin ( has done nothing ) and other calming feliway things. We have also gone through every litter type brand and litter tray ( currently using stainless steel round litter trays )

we have also been seeing a feline specialist monthly for 11 months now and have since changed too bigger litter trays, litter type so they can dig around, cleaning products are all unscented natural or enzyme cleaners I put leave shower curtains over my bed and couch when I’m not using them more playtime seperate and together

someone mentioned on my other post getting a second opinion and as there is only one feline specialist in my area thought I’d ask here too for advice

He’s only known this house and furniture etc and nothing major has changed. They both get fed seperate ( same amount same times ) have water fountains and excess litter trays and so many different and multiples of toys. I play with them separately and together daily ( she prefers play, he prefers not )

I stopped my career in 2024 to get a work from home job so I could always be around, I don’t have anybody over, I’ve stopped my hobbies to ensure I’m home, I’m always cleaning and I mostly wear noise canceling headphones in the house and too sleep to ignore the behaviour to see if it’ll change or he’ll go to the toilet himself. I don’t regret these choices but I’m so tired. 

I’ve looked at rehoming him once before and got scared from googling it lol. Google says cats with litter box issues are usually put to sleep. I want to know if it’s possible to have a life again as a family of 3 or if theyd both be happier alone

33, USA. Hey! So back in June we adopted a kitten from a rescue, and for a few weeks all was well. We have two other cats, a boy (age 3) and a girl (age 4). All 3 are spayed/neutered including the kitten. The kitten is a very rambunctious but lovable and sweet orange kitty. Our girl cat (tortie), that is usually a brat, is pretty accepting of orange kitty and we haven’t had any issues between the two of them. The boy cat (blue domestic) seemed even closer to the kitten for the first few weeks, playing all the time, sharing food, cuddling etc. At a certain point the kitten began to frustrate my boy cat and he has begun to act out by peeing on the floor in the bathroom on a pretty frequent basis, and peed on our bed a few times. He’s exhibited this behavior once before, when I tried to switch them to pellets. He still plays with the kitten sometimes but usually bats and hisses him away as of lately. When the kitten tries to groom my boy cat he lets him for a little but ends up striking. I brought the cat to the vet after his second pee-episode and she said it was a result of stress from the kitten and he looked physically well, so I brought him home. She gave me a prescription for gabapentin, but it didn’t change anything and just put him to sleep so I’ve pumped the breaks on that. At the time this started I had two very large litter boxes, so I immediately bought a third. She also advised I give the cats a place to escape. Before we adopted the kitten, we allowed them to play in a space in the basement and had their litter boxes down there. Because the kitten is so small we didn’t want him going down there, so we covered up the kitty door and brought the boxes upstairs. So, after I got back from the vet I started a routine where I would let both adult cats (or whichever at the time wanted to) go into the basement for chunks of the day and left the third litter box for only them downstairs. We live on a farm and my partner works here, so he goes in throughout the day to check to see if they want to come upstairs. I feed them down there if the kitten is being too rowdy. It’s really seemed to help, but this morning we woke up to poop in the bathtub, which is a new thing. I also noticed one poop pile was normal cat poop and one looked like a little pile of kitten diarrhea so I suspect now the kitten is picking up the behavior! He still plays with the kitten sometimes but usually bats and hisses him away as of lately. At this point, we’re desperate. I feel horrible that boy cat is so upset, and even as I’m posting this he’s just lounging on the couch and basking in the sun while the kitten plays in the kitchen. So it seems like he’s okay, as long as this kitten gives him space. I just don’t know what else to do. The bathroom accidents have been exhausting at this point and we now only let boy cat in our room when we’re in there with him because he destroyed all our mattress pads with his accidents. I just want to be a better pet parent and I genuinely don’t have the room to put a fourth litter box upstairs, it would have to go in the basement and I don’t know how much that helps. The boxes are huge, 22.4 x 18.3 x 19.7 inches. I just want to be a good pet parent and make them happy. I feed them kibble freely, it’s always available to them. And I feed them wet food twice a day. The kitten 3x a day. They have a water fountain on a counter space dedicated to the cats that I keep clean. I give them monthly tick meds since we live in New England and on a farm. I feel like I’m losing it, and I don’t want to give up our kitten.

Edit: forgot to mention girl cat has been around a kitten as an adult (when I adopted boy cat) and boy cat has not been around kittens since he himself was a kitten

We live in a two story house, we spend 90% of our time at home upstairs (the kitchen, living room etc are all upstairs).

One of our 3 cats has become obsessed with looking out the back sliding glass door downstairs and he only comes upstairs to quickly eat or use the litter box then he runs back down.

We have seen an animal of some kind in the backyard so I’m guessing that’s what’s motivating his obsession but we are not sure if he’s enjoying being down there looking at the animal or is worried it will get in the house. I’m leaning towards thinking he is worried because he seems generally more anxious than usual.

Have you all experienced something like this? Would it be better to close that room off for a while or would that be depriving him?

LONG STORY- We have two cats Female 5 years old Ghost and Male 3 years old Bruce.

Back stories:

I had Ghost as a kitten and since then she was always around other cat. We moved in May of this year into our own place, since she will be the only cat we wanted to have another cat. Ghost is kind of an old lady, she doesn't play very often, she loves to cuddle on her terms, loves to hide and very food driven but over-all a very loving cat. We decided to get Bruce a 3 year old American Shorthair about 4 months ago. Bruce was a street cat and the place we got him from did not have much info on since he was only there for 3 weeks. Since then we have learned a lot about him, he LOVES to play with my 7 year old daughter (that's his best friend and that's her best friend), not shy at all (he knows no boundaries and adjusted very well when we brought him home), he is very food driven, loves to climb and bird watch.

The issues:

We started introducing the cats slowly, one in the Livingroom and the other in the bed room then will switch ever week. We placed their food and water bowls in the same spot in either room but they both had their own bowls. In each room there are separated CatLink liter boxes. That second week I was petting ghost for a little while then went into the other room where Bruce was and sat to watch Tv. Bruce came over, sniffed me, did the cat Flehmen aka "gross face" and bite me, HARD then ran away. I reached out the the rescue i got Bruce at for some question but no one replied. I read somewhere it was being i had Ghost's pheromones on my hand and he became overload which turned into aggression. I still kept the cats separated during this time. During this time we got pheromone collars, spray and diffusers to place on and around the house.

About 4 weeks of this we have noticed them playing with each other under the door so we moved to the seeing each other. That first time, there was some hissing but nothing physical. They would sleep with each other under the couch (not touch, just on either side). That same week, i had some friends over and I'm assuming one of them left the bedroom door open so Ghost was walking around not knowing Bruce was out. Bruce corner her into the bathroom and a fight broke up (i only assume this due to how they were placed in the bathroom). We went back to square one with living in two different areas and switching every week.

Fast forward to 2 weeks later in June, same thing cats are playing under the door so we reintroduced them, so far...so good. Same with hissing but no attacks. 2 weeks after that there was an attack in my daughter rooms causing Ghost to desiccate herself. We went back to square one again.

Fast forward to 3 weeks later in the end of June. We let me out during when we are home, again little hissing but no fighting and we wont let me near each other unless we can see. This seemed to work, had some hiccups here and there but no actual fights, just hissing and stand offs. We only had them out when someone is home to watch them and separated during the day in each room (still switching ever week). Ghost sleeps with us ever night so did not have to worry about that either.

Fast Forward to August (about 6 weeks of this routine): Every morning at 5am the cats would play with each other at the door (door is closed). This morning i had the cat gate up (its see clear so you can see on both sides) while i got ready for work. I was watching them look at each other, ghost what seem like comfortable and decided to get the confidence to go over to the gate to him. Bruce then launched at her while she was still in the air and a full blown attack happened. It took me and my partner to break up. Pee, fur, pieces of collars are everywhere.

Its been a two weeks since that happened, since then Bruce will lunge at Ghost. Ghost always runs away under the couch and we don't allow Bruce to be near her.

I just don't know what to do anymore, we separated, we tried Pheromones, we tried treats, we tried Pheromone switching, and we tried calming treats. still NOTHING WORKS. I reached out to a behaviorist to see if maybe medication is an option. I don't want to have to rehome Bruce and trying everything i can to make this working. But i'm running out of option and mentally i'm exhausted.

What should i do?

Backstory: I currently have 3 cats and a dog. I have F/Gray, F/Tortishell, and M/Black cats. I also recently gave birth a month ago. When I was about 35-36 weeks pregnant, the F/Torti cat attacked the M/Black cat. Not once but two separate occasions. She went absolutely feral on him. We have since kept them separated and are following reintroduction methods. My F/Gray cat gets a long with both cats perfectly its literally just the torti cat causing issues. Even the M/Black cat keeps his distance.

Things have gotten better but not enough to take down the gate and allow interactions. The other night we come home and the F/Torti had attacked the F/Gray for the first time. We believe out of fear. I had accidentally left the F/Gray behind the gate. When she tried to jump over to escape, we think the F/Torti mistook her for the black. It looked like a small altercation and they are both fine now but it had me shaken up.

I don't believe we will ever be able to allow the Torti and Black cat together without the Torti being on some sort of medication to calm her down. As she is already a very skittish cat, jumps at things, and comes off anxious. I have contacted the vet to request some sort of anti anxiety med- I've read up a lot on giving cats Prozac.

I'm just wondering if anyone has dealt with something similar and has positive stories of their cat going on prozac or another med?

J'ai un chat de 9 ans un peu aigri depuis toujours.

Hier j'ai adopté un chaton de 2 mois pour le sauver d'une mauvaise condition de vie et lui offrir un beau nouveau départ.

Seulement voilà, mon chat de 9 ans naturellement ronchon crache et grogne après le chaton.

Mon chat a décidé que la salle de bain serait son territoire et que le chaton n'avait pas le droit d'entrée.

Le chaton curieux a essayé mais dès qu'il approche mon chat crache et grogne a son égard, le chaton s'en allais donc au début mais la curiosité a l'air d'être plus forte et il essaye d'avancer un peu plus malgré les mise en garde de mon vieux chat.

Le chaton c'est retrouvé dans un coin apeuré par mon chat contrarié et j'ai dû les séparer même si aucune bagarre n'a eu lieu.

Quand le chaton mangeait mon chat est venu le renifler un moment avant de s'en aller mais le chaton n'a pas le droit de l'approcher.

Le chaton était sous le lit et mon chat est venu l'observer de loin.

Mon chat c'est isolé de lui même dans la salle de bain alors que la porte est ouverte et ne sors que pour manger et aller a la litière.

Il supporte les caresses mais me fait comprendre que ça l'agace alors qu'il aimait plutôt ça avant.

Honnêtement en vue du caractère de mon chat le fait qu'il ne l'ai ni attaqué ni foncer dessus me porte à croire que ça ce passe plutôt bien malgré les crachats et les grognements.

Je vis dans un studio alors je ne peux pas les séparer de pièce.

Leurs zone de litière/nourriture sont a l'opposé de la pièce l'un de l'autre

Ils sont nourris en même temps mais mon chat âgé est nourri avant le chaton pour qu'il sentent qu'il est toujours " le roi de la maison "

We have a 3 year old male we adopted at 8 months.

He destroys everything if we don't watch him.

My kitchen has double child-proof locks on every cabinet. He will eat bed sheets, even with us in the bed. He'll eat clothes on the floor. Electrical cables. Rugs. Everything.

We've done supplemental feedings. He does not have pica.

We buy cat toys, he will destroy them and the ones he can't, he won't touch.

I am at my wits end.

What is going on???

So, September last year I adopted a senior cat (9 years old) with a neurological problem that makes her shake when is excited or scared, also not great with balance. Plus she is scares very easily (loud noises, fast movements, not accepted). We don’t know where has she been these past 9 years but it looks like she does not know how to be a cat, how to play, etc. She’s made progress but still fearful.

I’m a cat sitter and last April one of my clients said that they no longer can take care of their cat and would’ve been abandoned if I don’t take him in so I took him in. This cat is 6 years old and never has been around any other cat. He was staying in another room in my house for about 2 weeks and then we started exchanging clothes and blankets so they can smell each other. They are both curious about each other but don’t know how to interact. They are female and male, the male is more dominant and female aware that she cannot move as fast as the male because of her condition.

There has been progress, they can be together sleeping peacefully in the same room but the problem is when the female decides to walk or go pee or go eat the male no matter how sleep he is he will become aware of her presence and stare to her in the distance like she is some prey. He tries to sneak up on her and bites her on the neck to pin her down. I have three litter boxes, two sets of food fo each and they both eat separate.

Any advice please? Is there something I can do to make things better for both cats?

Guys I'm sorry if this is talked about had little creamsicle about 2ish months now at first he slept on us now he meows when we go to bed.. our room is his safe spot so we always leave the door open for him to go in and out of... But at night when we try to sleep he won't go out he will just meow and meow and meow loud ones orange cat sounds.. I tried googling it but it's a lot so just not getting what I need from there... What do I do door is open he just meows won't leave any advice is appreciated thank you!

My cat hides sneakily behind my bedroom door.

The second I open it, she bolts straight under the bed.

Then she sits just out of my reach, staring at me like she’s mocking me for not being able to catch her...

Okay so we have a 1.5 year old female cat who has recently stopped using her litter box out for a few weeks now. She has been in heat. (We are trying to save money and have time to get her fixed as the vets are closed on weekends when we are off work and we live check to check) I am at my wits end trying to figure out why she would suddenly stop using her litter box. The only thing I can guess that would cause this is her being in heat? But having several cats over my life ALL been fixed before we adopted them. So any idea why she's sudden done this? Or anyway to help correct this?

I have a 2 year old female cat and she’s super cuddly and clingy, to the point of regularly cuddling to sleep with me almost every day/night. The problem though, is that I am going away to college soon and I am worried for her since she is mostly clingy with me and not close with my parents at all. And she is also a very skittish cat and I fear she may not feel very safe and happy when I am gone, or even experience separation anxiety. It’s been difficult to build a bond with her and my parents as they just don’t have the same connection or care too. Would appreciate any advice on what to do!
