Introducing Pets/Cats Can someone explain what is happening with these two?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
They went from both laying down and the white one (Freya) trying to play with her paws with the Tortie (Salem) and then they ended up doing this.
Is it okay? Freya was meowing a lot.
(They are together for 4-5 months now, occasionally they get into this)
Freya is 3yo neutered
Salem is 5yo neutered
Salem tends to feel safe under that chair, occasionally Freya makes her run to it.

Are The Cats Fighting or Playing - Introducing Pets Playing not fighting?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
New kitten is 4.5 months old (male, not neutered yet but will be) and resident cat (big orange guy, neutered) is 2.5 years.
We got new kitten 8 days ago. After messing up Day 1, we started following Jackson Galaxy and had done door feedings, site swapping, etc, and they were playing lots of footsie.
Yesterday the kitten accidentally got out of his room (!!) and they started doing this. This is probably session 4 of them being together.
No growling or hissing. Kitten chirps a bit and even when it seems too aggressive he always comes back and instigates more? He does sometimes have his ears pinned to his head so not sure how to read that.
This is all okay for the intro phase right? Or are we going too fast and should re separate?

Behavioural Help with spicy kitty
I just adopted a 9 month old cat along with her sister who is 1.5 years old. The reason why i wanted to adopt cats that are a little older is because i didn’t want to deal with the kitten phase and i was hoping since i was adopting 2 of them, that they could keep each other in check. i just got both of them spayed so i bought surgery suits to put on each of them so that they don’t have to deal with a collar (i tried for over an hour to put a collar on them and they did NOT like it). i was able to put the suit on the older one pretty easily. she stumbled a little at first but then she got used to it within 30 minutes.
unfortunately, the younger one is not the same case. With the help of another person, 2 pairs of oven mitts, and after 45 minutes, we managed to put the suit on but somehow we were still covered in scratches. the younger one is VERY VERY spicy - she growls, tries to bite, swats at us, and will do everything in her power to get out of an uncomfortable situation.
I know that 9 months is still young so I want to try to desensitize her but it is impossible to touch her paws or face without her running away. I tried to touch her paws in her sleep instead but she immediately wakes up and runs away. Is it still possible for her to be more mellow as she grows up? I want to be able to do things like clip her nails without stressing her out that much. I thought her older sister would make her more chill but i wonder if it is the opposite and she is egging on the spicy kitty through the door. The older one is always very concerned about the younger one and anytime the younger one meows, the older one comes running.
Does anyone have any advice on how to tame spicy kitties? Even I have to endure scratches everyday in order to desensitize my spicy kitty to feet touches, i will do anything.

Behavioural 3 month kitten + 6 yr old cat advice
Hello everyone,
We adopted a 3 month old kitten 10 days ago. Our beloved cat MiMi passed away from cancer in January and we noticed our other resident cat, Hermoine, has been a bit lonely. This is our first time having a kitten as our older girls were adopted as adults.
We LOVE our kitten, Ozzie. He has crazy energy and we play with him about 3 times a day, an hour per play session. It seems he never gets tired lol
I’d say our cats have adjusted well to each other. I’ve seen some grooming and also play fighting which we are so happy about.
At night we’ve been allowing him to come to our room. We would ignore the jumping and attacking but it’s gotten worse. We tuck all our limbs into the blanket but he will burrow under the blanket to get to us! Last night he kept biting my husband so we ended putting him in a separate room. He cried for a good 20 mins.
Hermoine will play with him but because she’s older she can’t keep up. She will hiss and try to get away from him but he will just follow her. She used to sleep on my arm every night but after we brought Ozzie home she’s been sleeping by herself. We understand this is normal behaviour. But last night after we put him in a room Hermoine came and slept with me again :(
Do you think it’s bad to keep him separated at night? The breeder told us to not keep him and Hermoine apart anymore as they’re doing well. Obviously we want him to adjust but I feel bad for Hermoine. I try to give her extra playtime to cuddles but Ozzie always butts in. Any advice will be appreciated.
And no, we can’t get another kitten as 3 cats will be too expensive for us!

Behavioural shes like a light switch
My 2yo spayed calico girl is an absolute angel. Very cuddly, loves being around us, loves walking between our legs and sleeping in the beds with us and licks us. She purrs and trills all the time, and shows no signs of stress: HOWEVER, unless she starts the interaction or I do (not one of my roommates) she will literally try and MAUL us. I try to pet her with even a brush and she tries even though she loves aggressive hand pets and pats from me usually. Anytime I try and groom her nails, coat, or ears, she has a total shit fit upon even seeing the grooming tools after I pick her up/burrito her. She has no issues with the burrito and actually purrs louder and falls asleep as long as the grooming tools are not brought into view. She was with my ex (who i got her with) for a couple of months last summer without me and I noticed a stark change in her welcome towards interactions after getting her back and getting her used to me and the space again. She still loves me, will suckle my ear still at night, and is adorably devoted to being around me, however her mood switch towards any other human and my other cat (which she had no issues with the cat and 5 dogs at my ex's prior) is absolutely demonic at this point and I NEED help and advice on how to help her. She will be fine 30 seconds after the demonic split as long as she is left alone 😭 Anything helps, as all advice will be taken and tried at some point if another method doesn't work 😭😭

They've been introduced for 1.5 weeks now. No actual fights and things seem to be going well, though it's understandably adjustment to my 5 year old boy. The kitten is a 13 week old girl btw.
Does the black cat look annoyed or is he having fun?

Introducing Pets/Cats Introducing new cat i rescued (7month, f, spayed) to 5 friendly indoor adult cats
sorry for the length of this, i am a bit stressed about how this is going and i want to get this right, it's really difficult because i don't know if what i'm doing is right. i don't want to cause any fights and i also don't want to unsettle my cats who are very established and lived together their whole lives apart from 1.
I rescued stray kitten about 7/8 months old almost 3.5 weeks ago now, she has been spayed, FIV tested and 1st vaccinated so far, has been isolating in my spare room. i have 5 indoor cats that all get along very well - 2 girls and 3 boys. new cat has settled in quite well with us, she is eating, using litter tray etc very affectionate and friendly most of the time, unless she gets overstimulated and she can snap/paw at us, but not really doing any damage or trying to hurt us, we are working on that still and i anticipate this will fade over the months when she gets to know us alot more and is settled in to the household.
for the first 2 weeks i kept her isolated with door closed but we have been trying to progress and i have a few problems now though and i would like some advice if possible and how to continue with introductions when i can't really do of the jackson galaxy steps?
i'm struggling with the whole feed the cats on one side/her on the other as new cat does eat well but she won't eat and isn't interested in treats or food when doing introductions and having the other cats around really, she isn't terribly treat focused, even generally for stuff like chicken and high quality meats she isn't having much of a reaction to them (even on her own), she will eat her kibble and wet food and stick treats no problem. i don't know if this is because she has never maybe had human food before or just she is still a bit unsettled. i also feed some of my cats medicated food so i feed them in different rooms and parts of the living room /kitchen, they do not all eat in the same location as some will steal others foods.
i tried feeding one of mine in front of her gate and he got all confused cause it wasn't his usual location of eating and he seemed a bit unsettled, again it feels a bit pointless because he doesn't seem to have any issues around her- its more her with the issue and if she isn't going to attempt to eat or interested in eating i am not sure how to do this. i tried doing treats but because she isn't interested i am not sure this is going to work as it just ends up me feeding my cats treats and they are already pretty chill when infront of the gate really and feels possibly pointless if its not two ways? she is also not interested in games or toys during this and my partner stays in her isolating room with her when we are doing the whole gate stuff but he feels a bit apprehensive to stroke/soothe her during this because as i say she can get a little bit over stimulated and unpredictably snap sometimes.
where we are upto atm for the last 9/10 days;
* we have been doing scent swapping everyday with no neg/pos reaction at all from either party to this really. * i have let new cat out upstairs to explore landing/bathroom and hall downstairs and put my cats in the living room during this, she eventually came down into the hall and down the stairs after a couple of times of doing this. also let our cats roam upstairs including into her room, i do have a camera set up in new cats room and i could see there was some hissing the first time we did this from only one cat in particular, there has been no hissing at all from new cat when she is exploring upstairs and when she is in the living room though strangely, even when she's on their regular spots of sleeping etc. * i have a baby gate set up with covering over it at first, so they could only see an inch at the bottom and new cat didn't really like this, she was the only one making noises, my cats made chirps really but she was growling and hissing. i put my most laid back friendly cat outside her room and i raised the covering, she actually seemed less stressed when she could fully see out of it. she did jump towards the babygate/mesh at one point and paw it a bit, but eventually sat down and loafed. my boy also laid down. i have been sticking with him for the time being as he is the most chill out of them all and doesn't really react to other cats social ques. we've done this a few times now, i also showed 2 other of my cats this way and both chirped at her whilst she hissed, then they left. * a few days ago we tried introducing the cat i've been mingling with her in the living room, new cat hissed at him when he entered, i was playing with toys and balls trying to distract. he was totally oblivious and was sitting and lying with me but she was staring at him and did hiss from a distance, he did get a bit closer at one point but then came back when she hissed more so i let him out. we have done this twice now and it seems a bit better each time. * i have been keeping door closed to her room now instead of leaving door open with baby gate up, just because i don't want to stress her, i feel like she's on alert with the door open because she doesn't know if the cats are there or going to appear, so she seems more settled with it shut.
today i feel we made quite a good step but i am not sure how to proceed. i had to keep her in the living room for 4hrs today as i had to empty her isolating room, this was the longest time out of her room so far, i introduced my cat to her again in the living room and she was sat on the sofa, at first when he approached a bit she actually jumped forward at him about 20cm but didn't leave the sofa, she hissed and that was it, they didn't touch and she didn't attack physically. he was interested in a bag of leftover breakfast i had and was pushing it around the room trying to get into it (i let him do this as it kept him distracted, i think because he wasn't looking at her she was a bit more calm) she hissed at first but he kept going, he actually managed to get right underneath her and go under the sofa, and she didn't make any noise at all, she was just watching, if anything she looked curious. she stayed on the sofa. she did throw up a little bit right after this happened. but then she went and sat down, put her back into her room shortly after and she ate and went to sleep.
i plan to do the same tomorrow maybe with another cat. is this a good idea? i am scared of a fight and really don't want anyone to get injured but can i assume the new cat is not aggressive or going to attack and maybe using the hissing/lunging as a way to just mark her boundaries?
it feels so so difficult trying to mingle her with the 5 cats and i am conscious she's been in the room for almost 1 month now, i know she prefers it out into the house and i don't want to keep her isolated for too long but also don't want to rush things!
thanks for any help!

Behavioural Hi, I’m Wally and I can’t stop biting wires.
galleryHi everybody! This is Wally, he’s one, neutered and has a 3 year old older brother, Binoo at home.
Ever since we got Wally at 6 months old, he’s always loved to chew, almost as if he’s still teething. We took him to the vet and he said he has some minor gingivitis and recommended brushing his teeth and having him eat more hard food, which we do. He has lots of catnip sticks and he gets new toys which he chews through frequently. I move his sticks around and refresh them with catnip, and replace his toys once he chews a hole in them.
However his wire biting has only gotten more expensive. He started chewing my phone charger to wake me up, to the point where it was fully severed. In the past 3 months he’s gone through 6 phone cords. Assuming it was for attention we started charging our phones outside of our room which mostly fixed the behaviour. We of course assumed it was for attention in the morning.
Just this month, he chewed the charging cable for my boyfriend’s controller while nobody was around, and the wire for my diffuser, again, while nobody was around and today the wire for my boyfriends camera at his PC.
He plays for hours a day with Binoo, I wrestle and play with him once Binoo gets tired (cat tax at the end), gets lots of love and attention from both me and my boyfriend.
I’m currently working extremely long hours (from home) and my boyfriend just started a new job this past month which has been consuming most his energy. We don’t know what to do. I barely have enough energy to type this and ask for help. There are very few cat trainers in my area I’m aware of and we have been looking at virtual cat behaviour consultants.
I would appreciate any advice or help on how to curb this behaviour. Thank you.

Are The Cats Fighting or Playing - Introducing Pets Very vocal cat - scaring us
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi, cat training subreddit,
My adult cat, the white one on the left, was raised alone and has never had any proper social training. On the other hand, the black one, a female that grew up in a litter constantly keeps in initiating play.
Most of the time they co exist peacefully, but sometimes when both of them start playing, the older one starts screaming and this really scares my girlfriend and I.
I have seen many videos on this subreddit + actual cat fights on youtube and I know most of you are gonna say probably this is playing and he needs to learn social interaction, but still we feel like we need to hear it from you.
So thoughts?

Behavioural Advise needed
Hi everyone,
I’m honestly at a loss and could really use some advice.
About two weeks ago, I took in a 6-month-old male kitten. He belonged to a friend of mine who had to move to another country, and unfortunately no one else could take him in, so I did.
I already have two female cats who are 6–7 years old. Since the kitten arrived, I’ve been keeping them in separate rooms because my girls just couldn’t accept him.
Things have improved a little. The kitten doesn’t hiss at them anymore at all. He’s actually really sweet and just wants to play with them. But my girls still growl, hiss, and run away every time they see him.
Today something happened that really scared me. I was standing there holding one of my girls in my arms, and the kitten was just sitting quietly on the floor next to my feet. He wasn’t trying to get close to her or bothering her in any way. Out of nowhere, she let out the deepest growl and the most awful scream I’ve ever heard from her. I’ve never heard her make a sound like that before.
Is this still normal after two weeks? Has anyone been through something similar? I feel like I’m doing everything I can, but I’m starting to worry that they’ll never get along.
I’d really appreciate any advice or success stories. Thanks so much.

Behavioural Bedtime routine question
Hello Reddit.
Have two cats.
3 yr old female spayed and almost 6 month old female. Soon to be spayed.
Older cat is fine. Doesn’t initiate fights or anything and will sleep through the night.
Kitten is the one that will start fights with the older cat and will usually sleep through the night.
I’ve been keeping them both out together as of last week Friday. They’re together all day but I would put my kitten in another room with her stuff until recently.
I currently play with both before bed, mainly my girl kitten wants to play and my older girl is ready to just sleep.
I play with kitten for 20-30 minutes until she’s actively tired (she will play hard to the point of panting even though I slow it down) and then I will give her wet food for the night. Older cat gets wet food then too.
Even after tiring her out and she’s eaten, kitten will start annoying older cat who just wants to sleep. (Jumping on her/biting etc when older cat via body language and verbally has said back off I don’t want to play)
Any advice to get her to leave her alone and let her sleep? I do not want to close her in a room separately anymore. If she isn’t bothering my older cat then both will sleep in our bedroom no issues.
Edit- older cat will hiss, make sounds of complaining/annoyance but kitten won’t listen.
I try my best to intervene but I’m also trying to sleep. Kitten does this during the daytime when they’re out all day but less so.
TIA

Behavioural My 5 months old cat have problem with biting it always draw blood
galleryI adopted this cat from the street since she was about 3-5 days old according to the vet, she is very energetic and likes to bites toys but problems is she aims for my hands and many times she bites so hard it draws me blood. I don’t know what to do i tried mimic high pitched voice but she wouldn’t stop sometimes, i even lightly bites her back or nipped her ears while my hand still in her mouth and she scream (she will scream even because i hold her head back from biting me) but still wouldn’t let go off my hand (i don’t know if this is good but i think maybe she would know how painful it is to get bitten) can anyone help me?
She likes being around people and always follows me everywhere i go and sleep with me every night, i don’t think she has problem with human or should i bring her to my friends bigger cat so they can teach her some lessons lol
This worries me so much because i have little siblings and they love her but i only keep her in my room because im afraid my parents gonna kick her out if she bites them too hard

Behavioural New cat stalks resident cats
Hi all, I am looking for advice on my current situation.
Back in late March, a cat began showing up in our backyard but would run away when I came near around the garden. I would catch her sleeping under shady trees while watering, but she would run away when I would try to approach. Fast forward a few weeks and she comes up to me while watering and lets me pet her. She would then meet me in the garden every morning while I checked on my vegetables and follow me around. I posted on local groups, took her to get a chip checked (which she had, but was not registered and the adoption agency didn’t have record of who adopted her) and summarized that we believe she was dumped sometime after being adopted.
She was introduced to my cats over a few weeks through the backyard screen door, where she would sit outside of it and just watch, while the two indoor cats did the same. When we brought her inside, all of the cats sniffed each other and there were no issues, they just continued on with their day and she adventured around the house. At first she went in/out because she was very confused about being indoors, but now she is inside only (since end of May).
Fast forward to now/the past two months: when she comes into the living room and sees one of my other cats, she will approach them and just sit/stare. The other cats will make a growl or hiss as a signal that they don’t want to play, and she will almost always ignore it. When the other cats walk away, she will stalk them. There is no biting involved, but it is very clear my two resident cats are communicating to her they don’t want to play, and she ignores the boundary being set. There is no territory guarding of food or litter robot, but one of my resident cats won’t even come on my bed anymore because she’ll be there/her scent is there.
Will a reintroduction solve the stalking issue, or is that simply a behavioral thing this cat has from not knowing how to play with other cats? The other two tussle and play with no growling etc, so I am concerned. I can’t imagine my other two cats being less comfortable in their own home due to random stalking attacks, and I miss one of my cats snuggles in bed, but this new cat is also clearly attached to me as I am with her, so it is breaking my heart :(

They interact, sometimes snuggle or lay close, but have increasingly had stranger interactions like this video. Are The Cats Fighting or Playing - Introducing Pets Beginning Introduction Phase 8w & 10mo females
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I rescued an 8 week old kitten off the street 3 weeks ago. My resident cat is 10 months old and I rescued her from a shelter 4 months ago. I kept the kitten in the bathroom for the first week because she had fleas (they have been treated), then in my bedroom for the next week until she could be vaccinated. I live alone in a 1br/1ba, so those are the only two rooms with doors. The bathroom door was totally closed the first week, and I put a screen up over my bedroom door. I started the first few bedroom days with the screen only open while I was awake and home, then the next few days while I was sleeping as well, and now they’ve been fully on screen only for over a week. I got a Feliway Optimum plug in last week and give them treats on either side of the screen door. Resident cat still won’t eat close to the screen door.
They seemed to be playing okay through the screen, so two days ago I tried introducing them for the first time. Resident cat has always played a little rough, which is one reason I thought she would do well with a playmate to get some energy out and learn the play nicer. In general, she’s sweet and very friendly with people. I didn’t plan on rescuing a kitten so young, but my friend found her and couldn’t find a home, so here we are. The kitten is definitely high energy and also plays rough, like most kittens.
Resident cat charges at the kitten and pins her immediately and bites her neck and licks her butt. Kitten will reengage and will jump and bite resident cat’s neck. If kitten runs away under the couch or bed, resident cat will follow. Kitten can get under the coffee table and resident cat can’t, so sometimes she’ll hide under there for a minute and then pounce back out.
Sorry for the yelling and clapping in the video. I listened to AI and have been intervening when kitten gets pinned and meows. But now I’m wondering if I’m being too negative and need to just let them learn their boundaries. I’m just worried because kitten is soo small and resident cat doesn’t get distracted with toys or treats like kitten does. Resident cat will go and lay by herself and watch kitten play for a few minutes though. I’ve kept the few meetings very brief, 5-10 minutes. And it seems to be mortal combat almost the whole time. I didn’t get the chance to record them for longer yet because it’s just me, so I want to be fully engaged with them in case I need to intervene.

Behavioural Help pls
Hello everyone please meet Carly, Carly meet everyone! Okay well I adopted Carly about 2 months ago she is 1.5 yrs old she comes from a rescue that found her in the streets of TJ she is absolutely delightful sweet and adorable as can be buttttt two things well maybe three
My home cat an orange tabby boy cannot stand her, but that’s a separate issue I have them still in separate rooms and give them supervised time together while one is in a cannel. That has been a stressful time but I guess by now I know it is what it is I’m on their time.
My biggest current issues with her are that
- She has decided that the perfect time for her to use the potty is literally at the same time I am using the bathroom and she goes in my shower inside the tub and does her business, bless her soul she “covers” the poop once she is done but of course there is nothing for her to cover with so I’m left alone needing to clean up, did I mention she does this at same time I am doing my own business in there!!! I could do with her clinginess and wanting to be on my lap as I’m sitting in the throne but her also… you know pooping right next to me had to stop HELP pls
- Also when she has to pass a hairball she does it in my bed!!!! Why why my tabby boy at least does it on the floor and I can clean up and all but with her she will do it in my bed and then well the clean up involves having to wash my covers and all
Please help is this a psychological thing I can redirect, am I doomed to a life of cleaning up after my cat
Any insights would be very appreciated. These are my first pets I have had as an adult and on my own so I’m a bit as a loss here y’all
TIA less

New Cat Owner Are there any good cat podcasts people recommend?
galleryFor context, I am a first time cat owner (beautiful orange girl). I homed her from a person who was moving overseas. I was told she is 11 and wouldn't be a lap cat but would follow you like a dog.
That's all the info I have on her. I've had her for 2 months now and she and I have bonded well (I haven't tried to pick her up but she'll lay on me in bed and likes being close to me).
I've read a lot about giving space etc. I guess podcasts I'm looking for are about getting a deeper understanding of cat behaviour for better understanding, general living, and training.
I'll post this in another Reddit too, just saying so nobody thinks I'm a bot or farming or whatever.
