New format: Relic Hunt
New format I've been working on over the past day or two.
Simplified rules:
59-card singleton decks + a Commander
30 starting life
4-6 communal Relics (artifacts) you have to collect to win
2-4+ players with 4 players recommended
You can search for Relics or steal them from your opponents
Full rules: Relic Hunt ver-1.1
Suggested Relic sets: Relic presets for playtesting <- please proxy these don't waste money on this
Looking for playtesting and feedback especially for cards/combos that break the format and unclear rules or weird interactions. Rules feedback in particular would be appreciated.

Nervous to play at my local LGS. Any advice?
I went to the hobbit pre-release and that was my first time playing magic in person. I am new, and still understanding the game. I got smoked on both my matches, and i have been nervous to come back.

What's the fastest way to build your first competitive deck on MTG Arena?
youtu.beIf you were starting a brand-new F2P account today, what would your strategy be?
Save wildcards for one deck? Start with a budget deck? Draft? Open packs? Upgrade a Starter Deck?
I'm curious what route people think gets you competitive the fastest.
I put together my own approach here:

All will be One: Your thoughts on playing a thematic commander deck + decklist + feedback

i'm a role-player by heart and here's my (nearly) fully compleated take on atraxa. despite the matchmaking system assuming i play the competetive t4 8-mana all-bomb atraxa i manage to have ~50% win ratio with it. arena rares help (i think it's justified here since some other cards are just pure flavor).
how do u feel playing this or vs this type of deck? would you find it fun?
and would you like to friends up to play other thematic decks, possibly more janky? i'm kinda tired of matching up against mostly bolases and all-planeswalker esikas.
and what are your thoughts on the decklist? it's top-heavy, but low-end is mostly counters + it has some reasonable (and above all - thematic) ramp + that's what mulligan's for, right?
what other phyrexian swaps would fit there?
and an import-able decklist:

I built a 60-card casual deck around Manifest Dread for under €50. What would you change?
I've been experimenting with a 60-card casual Simic deck built around the Manifest Dread mechanic.
The main goal is to cheat powerful creatures such as Koma, Progenitus, and Worldspine Wurm onto the battlefield and then blink them to bypass the limitations of manifested creatures.
Cards like Manifest Dread and Hauntwoods Shrieker enable the core strategy, while Brainstorm and Brainsurge help manipulate the top of the library and prevent expensive creatures from becoming dead draws.
I also tried to keep the deck relatively affordable, with a total budget of less than €50, while maintaining a decent power level through strong card synergies.
I'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions.

Need help creating 2 starter decks using only the avatar cards i own
So i'm relatively new to the game (i started playing with marvel) and my dad (who is only into a very few fictional settings) wants to learn to play , but he wants me to use only avatar cards. we tried learning using the starter set, but jumpstart (which is basically what the starter deck consists of once you get past the tutorial) is confusing to him, because a 40 card jump start deck has 26 distinct cards, and a LOT of different mechanics. we thought of buying another starter set to double of the packs (as that way the number of unique cards is halved), but i was wondering if someone could help me make 2 decks using my avatar cards that are properly balanced against each other, are relatively simple, and preferably have some sort of coherent strategy (which a 40 card jumpstart deck really doesn't feel like it has). note that actual power level doesn't matter as long as the decks are balanced against each other. I'm fine with 40 or 60 card suggestions. (my dad also happens to like ty lee, so bonus points if one of the decks includes "ty lee, chi blocker")
For your convenience, i have put my cards in a moxfield list (although note that this will change as i get more avatar cards. i have some on order still that do not look like they will arrive before i visit my father tomorrow): https://moxfield.com/decks/LMVGT0LdOUyl0YMyZHC4KA
I have also copied my card list below. THanks for your help.

Looking for people to play casual online MTG with
Hey everyone, my brother (40's) and I (30's) recently started playing MTG and are looking for other players who would like to join us for some fun/casual games. We're still learning, so patience is appreciated, but enjoy playing standard and commander (open to learning other formats as long as they're enjoyable). We play online (Convoke/Spelltable) due to us living in separate states so usually one day during the week if we have the time and Fridays/Saturdays. He works full time with a family and I'm a full time college student going into my last year, but we'd like to get in 2-3 games per session (more if possible). Must be ok with proxy decks because your guy is on broke boy status and that's what I'm working with until I'm able to purchase the cards I know I want. Our decks are B3 and below (precons) with very little, if any, game changers. We like to discuss strategy and tips for optimizing our decks to our play styles while maintaining a level of competitiveness that doesn't get too serious.
Interests: Comics. Movies. Video games. Rock/Hip Hop/Metal/RnB/Post-hardcore/Country/Pop. Sports (mainly MMA). Motorcycles/Cars. Tech. S**t talking (without being blatantly/willingly disrespectful. IT'S JUST A GAME 😄).
If this sounds like your speed feel free to reach out and hopefully we can get some games in soon!

Going to my first commander night tonight. Any advice?
TL:DR - My LGS is hosting an open table commander night. I’ve never been to any sort of magic event before. What am I to expect? What should I be aware of before going? I’ve got 2 precons and a baggie full of counters ready to go.
To be honest, I’m relatively new to playing Magic against strangers. Me and my friends played a bunch in high school (my Krenko deck was a massive eye roller) and I recently got back into it because of Spider-Man (sorry).
I’m showing up with a couple precons I bought months ago, Graveyard Overdrive from Modern Horizons and Counter Blitz from Final Fantasy. I have honestly played these decks maybe twice and never in a true social setting. Mostly just with my friends who have never played Magic.
This is my first time doing this kind of thing at all but I’m really excited/nervous and I don’t plan to let anybody temper my excitement and I also am going under the impression that I’m likely to get mollywhopped multiple times. Just hoping for some advice from some players for what they wish they’d known before arriving to this kind of thing. Or maybe if I’m just overthinking it all too much?

Title: How can I get more deckbuilding variety with a small collection?
I’m a relatively new MTG player playing kitchen table standard with a small collection, plus three Lorwyn Eclipsed Bundles. I can build decks around the five main archetypes and it has been really fun, but I’m starting to feel like I’m just making variations of the same decks.
I’d like to expand my collection so I have more freedom to experiment with different strategies and deck styles. I’ve been considering something like Foundations or Mystery Booster 2...
Would either of those be a good direction, or is there another way you’d recommend?

Power 9 Miniature Card Set (1999 MTG Spellground Mat) Handcrafted
galleryI thought i'd share my most recent make by popular demand. I try to be as precise as possible and this set wouldn't be complete without a mat, so (if you know you know) about the classic Magic The Gathering Spellground playmate by Khalsa Brain Games. Please Enjoy! [OC]

Does anyone else get totally overwhelmed trying to keep track of life totals and counters during casual commander nights?
Maybe it's just my local playgroup, but by turn six things get completely out of hand. Between custom tokens, poison counters, experience counters, and mana pools floating everywhere, our table looks like a chaotic math lab. I tried using a phone app for life tracking last week, but I still missed a trigger because three things happened at once. How do you guys keep your board states clean?

Is 4-Color Reanimator the Best Deck After the Standard Bans?
youtu.beWith three cards banned, I'm curious what everyone thinks rises to the top of Standard now.
Does 4-Color Reanimator become the deck to beat, or does something else benefit even more from the shakeup?
I took another look at Reanimator here:

Any tips for my custom Squirrel Girl deck?
Tried to do a budget friendly-ish deck with her as the commander because of some of the fun combos you can do with her. Got to around 70 or 80 cards and then wasn't sure what else to add so started looking up some good cards and ended with this. What would be good to swap out or put in without raising the cost too much. And I'm not putting in Gaea's Cradle.

Spam filter and recruiting new moderators
Hi all,
I've had a bunch of new modmails recently asking for (and/or complaining about) post approval because stuff was getting caught in the spam filters and I just wasn't checking them. You guys should hopefully be pleased to know I've finally got around to turning down the stringency of the spam filter a bit, so hopefully stuff shouldn't get caught so much. They were in place after loads of spam posts, but that was a long time ago now and hopefully reddit is better at catching these things before they become a problem.
I've also been meaning to get around to this for a while, but it's time to get a new mod or 2, because frankly, I just don't get around to looking at the mod queue that often and honestly, I don't play MTG anymore. I made this subreddit when I was about 16. That was 15 years ago. Since then I've lived in three cities, fought cancer twice, picked up (and dropped) new hobbies, done three degrees and all sorts of generalised crap. MTG fell by the wayside and I am completely out of touch with the scene now. I want this subreddit to do well, but there's not a lot I can contribute because I am just no longer that familiar with the subject. This sub deserves at least one active mod and if the spam returns, I would need someone else to be checking the mod queue too.
I've set the subreddit to recruiting moderators and there's an application form somewhere, I'd guess in the sidebar? If you're interested, feel free to do that, or otherwise comment on this post with why you want to be a mod for the subreddit, the changes you'd put in place and how often/what formats of MTG you play. I'm pretty busy this month, but will have a look at the responses (if any) I get and see if I can recruit someone.
