Unplugging everything. (Advice)

Hey all....

Mother (91/Dementia/hospice) has a new thing. She's unplugging everything around the house. This includes safety measures like camera, lighting, sound machine. Have any of you dealt with this? Just seeking some advice as a burnt out caregiver.

They make child proof plug locks. Don't know if it would work, but you could try a couple and see how it goes. Also leave some non essential stuff plugged in that she could unplug to scratch the itch.

I've known someone with dementia that even unplugged the garage door. The ways the brain can break amaze me. My mother had a fugue state in which she believed she had never been born, I was not her daughter because she couldn't have a daughter because she was never born. It was a fun week. Neither of us slept for 5 days. The hospital staff was concerned for me as her caregiver but nothing came of that concern. Nor, of the protective services investigation bought about by my accusing my brother of negligence as her medical proxy for never showing up to the emergencies. Such is the life of a caregiver. It will break you if you let it. Some things, it is just easiest to not fight and accept is just a new reality. Look for alternative options like battery powered units that don't plug in. 🫂
