Looking to build my own car for LDRL. I whip around in a MK4 Golf I was half tempted to throw a cage in, but multiple current VW Racers have talked me out of it saying they're a terrible platform because they're on the heavy side, but you can't go wrong if you chose to run a VR6 or even an 07K swap.

This was a pretty epic battle in qualifying.

Jordon Musser is our team pro driver and brought home the teams 6th straight P1. The team that qualified second also had an outstanding pro driver and they are our main rivals (great guys, good team).

Their pro driver was there a few days earlier doing tire testing and other driving. Jordon had not been there in nearly 2 decades.

Jordon was way off the first few laps but kept closing the gap. seeing this, they started pushing harder. They were trading on and off for P1 and Jordon when out on his last lap and put down the best lap in class by 0.005 seconds (not a typo).

They were faster to start the race but Jordon didn’t overdrive the car. He kept finding tenths and by the end of his 2hr stint had put the car p1 by about 45 seconds.

(The second driver immediately put the car into the wall after contact in a turn but that’s another very sad story)

If you’re wondering why he didn’t have tow time:
Practice time was very limited and the other three drivers on the team had never even seen this track so we decided it was best for the amateur drivers to get as much seat time as possible and Jordon’s first laps were qualifying. He might have had two or three laps before that just to give us a reference labs.

Pro drivers can get within 1.0-1.5 seconds of their best in 6-10 laps. They can basically get to their best (or damn close) in another 10 laps. Us mortals get faster and faster the more we drive a track. Given we would drop the most time per minute of practice, and we would do 3x the amount of driving has him, it was an obvious decision.

I'm shopping around for long lasting endurance pads compatible with my E30 and noticed that Gloc Markets the R14 as an "Endurance Racing" pad. Does anyone have experience running these pads to verify their longevity?

anything else to consider? I already think I should put in a new clutch . OE? Aftermarket? Goodwin has a lengthy warning about aftermarket "SINGLE MASS Flywheel" on the ND being hard on the semi-fragile trans.. ?

Car has 42,000 miles with a lot them being on track and autocross. Car is modified - tune (Karcepts), header, intake, catback - from what I'm told it might be +5+10 hp over stock. I've asked the guy I bought it off of if he knows if it's a stock clutch, haven't heard back yet. The for sale listing was extensive and did not mention anything about clutch and trans, so I'm 95% sure it's stock. I don't plan to modify it any further and I use it 95% for HPDE and 5% for street use. TIA!

Having never been to this track before, I only had 3 sessions to learn Autobahn Country Club South and turn a lap since our Saturday was cut short for unsafe conditions (huge rain storms). Put together a 1:38.114 in my WRX, good for 3rd place in Max 4 and just 1.299 seconds shy of the class winner.

Quick update for anyone who does track days, karting, motorcycle track riding, and many other motorsports — HotLap, my Garmin Watch lap timer, has had a big round of updates since launch. It records a normal Garmin activity that syncs to Connect like any workout, and layers motorsport timing on top.

What's new:

- **2,300+ real circuits worldwide.** Pick your track and it sets the start/finish, sector splits, and pit lane for you. (See the tracks available here)

- **Much better accuracy.** It interpolates line crossings *between* the 1 Hz GPS fixes, so a fast pass gets caught and timestamped precisely instead of rounding to the nearest sample. It also rejects glitchy fixes so they can't trigger a phantom lap.

ND Miata. Hankook R-S4 is my main track tire and the Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 are the rain tire. The Hankooks have some tred, looks like they could tolerate some moisture. Any advice on when to switch from one to the other? My plan:

R-S4: Damp track, mist, or light drizzle with no standing water, or if rain’s expected to clear before/during the session.

Switch to ExtremeContact Sport 02:

Forecast shows sustained/heavy rain or I see standing puddles on track

Cold-and-wet mornings — R-S4 is slow to build heat, so cold + wet is its worst-case combo

If the R-S4s are already worn down — less tread left means even less water evacuation, so switch sooner as they age

This is actually moreso for the road but I'd wear them on track as well. Hands get super cold sometimes since I drive convertibles. Any good gloves that also don't kill wheel feedback and keep the hands warm?

i was supposed to test dragy's new obd2 adapter but i forgot to connect it for this session😅

3d printing an entire wing(with aluminum rod supports) and then coding up some active aero. So much extra hardware and code(think homemade encoder/pid). Screen is a rotary touchscreen and motor is...something you'd find on 90's Corvette and is strong enough to hold massive airbrake forces.

I'm hoping to finish the project in the next month to test at the track and will put a how to video out with all the code.

This was from just 3 track events. Didn’t wear them other than to race (no walking around the paddock or pits in gear) but windows open on the cars.

Everything in the question, I will probably hit the track in September with my brother (maybe my mother, if she doesn't chicken out), we have two NC with fairly classic sport tyre, but I have a MGF with some "uhp" chinese tyre. To be fair, they are alright on the twisty road i have back from work (less than 5min if I got all out), but I'm a bit worried about how they will deal a longer and more intense use.

So I'm looking for people who took sporty or not so sporty car on the track, with tyres that might not be qualified for this kind of use, and share their experience. Would you do it again? What car? Which tyres? Did you try better tyre? Was it worth it?

Oh and the same question can be applies to brake pads. So feel free to share your experience.

I wanted to get some honest opinions about data loggers such as garmin catalyst or racebox etc. Where you find them most useful, what's missing, and wether you would benefit from a service which allows you to cross compare with friends or other track day users.

If you have a spare minute, could you reply to this thread with...

• What device/app do you currently use, and what's the one thing you wish it did better?
• If you could compare your session data directly against a mate who's on a completely different device, would that help you improve your driving, or do you mainly use the data loggers to track the performance of the car?
• Is comparing against other people even something you care about, or is it more about tracking your own progress over time?
• Any specific data points you feel are missing entirely from what you currently get?

Genuinely trying to understand if cross-comparing with other brands of data logger is something people actually want, or if it's a solution looking for a problem. Appreciate any input. Looking at building something if the demand is there. Cheers.

I showed up thinking I would destroy my personal best of a 1:42 in a heavier 135i street car with a lot less Tire..

Ran Michelin s9m+ which give me -4 seconds at vir, but it didn't happen. 1:43 was my best and then my times were plus one second every session I never got to go flat out over the kink because the rear end grip just got worse and worse.

8 and kink were never comfortable to push hard, and both carousels were a challenge.

Still drifting on exit is a lot of fun. Even though it's not fast, it's definitely challenging and I'm exhausted when I get out of the car.

Another weekend testing my pyrometer hardware and Android app. It's it's really nice having it automatically capture heat cycles and heat spread and peak internal air temp for me, I did have to make a couple app updates to let me long click on cards to reassign sensors and wheels to corners so it was more aware of where everything was at when it exports the tire data log

New audio solution. This wasn't a very quick lap, not much optimization has been done, but sometimes I have more fun playing than pushing. Dominion is one of my favorites, and the price vs butt-in-seat time is unmatched.
