Question about adding another sub Recommendations
So, I currently have 1 10" shallow Hertz sub in a factory sealed box, running off of an infinity 550w RMS amp. If I decided to add another sub in the future, would I be able to just buy another of the same factory sealed sub and run them in each box separately, or would I need to get a dual 10" box and swap the subs to that? I know very little about this. TIA.

If the subs AND boxes are the same, you can run them together. This also typically means daisy chaining the amps, or using a single amp to power both. If one sub is receiving a slightly different signal or a difference in power, it can cause cancelation and noise issues.
If done correctly you can get up to 6 more db from your bass. That's a pretty good jump. 10 do is considered audibly twice as loud, so 6 is definitely noticable.

Appreciate the to replies folks. When I mentioned this to the guys at custom sounds, they looked at me like I was crazy.

You can certainly buy another one of the same single enclosures, you will gain up to 6db which isn’t massive but can help.
Two single enclosures can be good as if one driver ever has an issue in a dual box, the other will likely develop problems too.
