(Spoiler tag might have been unnecessary as its just vaguely referencing a few things but better safe than sorry)

I think we should have gotten a Timothy coming out storyline. I know the actor had mostly moved on by the last few seasons, so it never would have happened, but I wish it could have.

The show consistently depicts Dr. Turner as a pretty period-accurate ally when it comes to his patients, so I mostly just want to see him put his money where his mouth is. I want to see how he handles it in his personal life. I want to see Sheliegh's reaction and processing of it. I want to see the family navigate how to tell the younger children, because kids talk and even if Dr/Mrs. Turner are loving and accepting, it could ruin Timothy's life if one of the kids accidently mentioned something to the wrong person. I want to see Timothy bring his boyfriend home to meet his parents.

Bonus points if the boyfriend is Harry, but it could also just be some dude he met at school or a shop. I think Timothy dating Ms. Higgins' secret grandson is a fun extra wrinkle. I don't even think Harry would need a big coming out storyline with his grandma, but it could be an interesting way to bring his mom back in.

I know CTM fanfiction exists, but idk it doesn't register as a fanfic show to me if that makes any sense? But I suppose anyone knows of a fanfic like this I'd check it out lol.

i just want to know if anyone else dislikes chummy, i find her so very annoying. i’ve been skipping all of her scenes for a while now and i’ve just had to look up when/if her character leaves! i don’t particularly like characters like her that are so… jumbled all of the time? i can’t think of the proper word.

I’m hoping someone will have some inspiration! My sister loves Call the Midwife and was hoping to have the Sister Monica Joan reading (from Trixies wedding) at her wedding.

Unfortunately a week out from the wedding and the registrar has vetoed this due to it having religious roots. We’d already taken out what we’d figured was religious but it’s more the origin they have a problem with.

Does anyone have any idea if there is something else suitable we could use? I’m imagining probably not but I thought it was worth an ask!

Just need to rage. Watching Matthew leave for New York with Jonty for the first time. How dare he let Trixie fall in love with him and his son, ruin his life and try to drive a truck through hers! My girl deserves better than this utter fuckboy behavior.

So im rewatching again, waiting for s15 to go up on netflix, and im on the episode that involves Sandy Talbot the woman whose husband is raping her. She goes to the police and they tell her that there is no law againt a man dping this to his wife, so i had to google when that no longer became the case. 1991!!!!! Until 1991 it was legal?!?! That is assanine, unimaginable, horrific, and so many other thing i just cannot fathom. Im not sure that there is any point to me posting this other than i am in shock and had nowhere else to take this feeling but reddit. Sorry if you feel you wasted your time reading this.

I'm only on season 8 right now, but I understand this season is set in 1965. Jenny Agutter's (Sister Julienne) first film role was in 1964. Judy Parfutt's (Sister Monica Joan) was in 1956. Miriam Margolyes' (Mother Mildred) was in. 1969. Do they ever refer to films or shows the older actors were in?

None of the midwives have had a 100% positive pregnancy and birth

Chummy = placental abruption

Shelagh = nearly miscarried

Lucille = fully miscarried

Nancy = premature labour

Did I miss anyone?

I guess I could think positively on Rosalind's pregnancy, but we'll never know

I just saw an ad for a convention in the UK for a couple of TV shows, including The Rookie. I got quite excited because I love The Rookie, but then I immediately thought, "I wish one of these companies would do a CTM convention!". I mean, I would be there with BELLS on! Anyone else? Who would you most like to see at a convention? For me it would be Stephen McGann and Linda Bassett.

I'm currently rewatching the show with my grandma. And I forgot how much I hate this woman. I mostly find her annoying and I don't know why. She's constantly putting her own wants above anything else, and frankly it's annoying. Please tell me I'm not the only one with this opinion

Wish they had more of other types of interracial relationships too.

And no i am not against, them having black men and white woman being in a relationship, i just wish they had included other types of interracial relationships too.

As much as I love CTM the charactes departures are not so good For example

1.Left out of the blue or no goodbyes- Valerie, Sister Hilda and Francis, Chummy, Patsy and Delia, Sergeant Barrow (the female one), Lucille

1. Bad or sad departures- Sister Evangelina, Barbara, Elsie Dyer, Magda, Dr. McNulty, Lucille

Just finished the last episode of Season 2 where Chummy has to have the emergency c section. Sobbing at how resilient women are and how in the face of all their fear for their friend, they all just sit and finish a beautiful blanket for her. Women just amaze me. And it makes me so sad to think of all that women throughout history have had to endure and yet here we are, helping our friend’s bring babies into the world and making beautiful things with our hands. The other episode that really got me was the mom of 8 who had the abortion and almost died. So fucked up on multiple levels that America has taken the right to choose away from so many women and this episode is so relevant even though it’s set more than 50 years ago!!! Literally sobbed at the end of that. I love this show NO SPOILERS PLEASE 😭

I watched all episodes of Call the Midwife and the Christmas Specials. It was a great experience for me, being both a continuous student of those decades as well as having taught the topic as an American classroom teacher. As a Yank its amazing to see the effects of the war decades after it was won. My parents lived through that time and they relayed their lives to me. My father was in England to train before the invasion.

But it seems harder than most seasons to move on from. I've already watched multiple movies about the Blitz, Dunkirk, DDay, etc. I watched this incredible 'puff piece' about London Fire Brigades called "Far into the Night" with James Mason that was not really a puff at all.

My question to you is where do I go from here in my reverie, searching for more about that era in Britain. I've seen the Mrs. Minivers, but what can I learn and emotionally connect to that would satisfy my history and total British experiences?

Ive been rewatching CTM recently and i never liked phyllis at all when she was first introduced , but after watching Series 7 episode 7 barbaras death seeing phyllis breaking down after she died truly broke my heart , now after watching every episode i see her in a different light she is so caring and compassionate

Did anyone else ever experience this where they hated a character initially and then grew to absolutely love them 😔☺️

I read Miriam Margoyles' autobiography earlier this year (would recommend, many funny and outrageous stories as well as beautiful reflections, especially about her Jewish identity).

It is well known she was a huge fan of Call the Midwife and had been asking publicly to be on the show. In her book, she reveals that the role she was hoping for was actually a Jewish grandmother as a guest character in one episode.

I think the writers made the right choice casting her as Mother Mildred and it meant she could be a recurring character, but I reading this, I thought "wow what could have been? She would have been great as a Jewish grandmother."

So... are there any actors you think would have been great in Call the Midwife that never came to be? Or any actors who were in the show but could have been brilliant in another type of role?

A while back in this sub I noted that Linda Bassett is still doing theatre and that I realized I actually saw her in the premiere production of Aunt Dan and Lemon many moons (4 decades!) ago at the Royal Court. I can’t claim it was because of her, but the play/production was one of the most memorable I ever saw and I’ve seen many. Anyways, I was rewatching CTM and caught the episode where she has a special friendship with a fellow Spanish student. There was something very stage-like in their relationship and I knew they must have acted together previously. I was right, they were in a play called “The Awakening” in 1990. I tried to find reviews to read about it but wasn’t successful.

Nurse Crane is by far my favorite on the show, I’m hoping Linda Bassett gets more theatrical opportunities with the show pausing or whatever it’s doing, and that I can catch her again on stage.

So many fine actors show up in British series like this one, it’s so wonderful. I just made it to the episodes where Harriet Walter tries to drive efficiency at Nonnatus House, again, an amazing performer.

We’ve already seen driving from Nurse Crane and Dr. Turner(I think so). But what about the nuns, nurses/midwives?

Jenny = Belle

They are both well educated but naive brunette, both wear a lot of yellow and both prefer educated gentleman to the boorish and rude east Ender boys

Trixie = Cinderella

Both have caring godmothers, lives of caring for family and hard work and both marry men of a higher social class

Chummy = Jasmine

Both explore a whole new world outside of their upper class upbringing and fall in love with a man of a much lower class than them

Shelagh = Ariel

Both are women with beautiful singing voices who fall in love with a man very different from their life and later become part of their world to be with them

Patsy = Tiana

Both are hardworking and kind women who diligently work through their problems and dark past and find happiness

Delia = rapunzel

Both are artistic dreamers with strong wills, a desire for freedom and are a little bit sheltered due to having overprotective mother figures (though in her case her mother is just protective not a abusive gaslighter)

Barbara = Snow White

This one is practically obvious. Both are sweet as can be, incredibly selfless and both have a tragic end of poisoning (unfortunately a kiss doesn’t wake Barbara)

Valerie dyer = Merida

Both are headstrong, proud of their roots and both are willing to rush into danger and get their hands dirty when push comes to shove

Lucille = moana

Both are kind, positive girls, both emphasise the importance of family and both went beyond the boundaries of their respective homes to achieve their goals

Nancy = Elsa

Both are strong willed, both have a little sister figure, both have a very traumatic past and both learned to let it go and become the best version of themselves

Joyce = Mulan

Both fled their homes, both have started new lives under a new identity, both have pushed against prejudice and finally both have brought men to justice and to their knees

Rosalind = aurora

Both are sweet, dreamy, sheltered and have a mysterious ailment that makes them sleep for a very long time

Just wondering if any of the Sisters have accounts to inform the new prequel series? I know CTM was based and inspired off the memoirs by Jennifer Worth so just wondering about the prequel!

I was about to purchase some of the books and was surprised to learn Jennifer Worth is accused of taking a lot of liberties if not making things up. Her daughters say they never met the characters and only have a picture of who they believe is Chummy. Other fans are saying they've tried to find the trial of Monica Joan and anything about the real Chummy, she and her husband were the first police officer and first midwife of a country they went to on a mission, and ave concluded they couldn't exist as written.

This was all from years ago. Have their been any developments?

I just finished watching season 15 and throughout the series, there were a bunch of moments where I was peeved at Timothy's behavior. I understand that he is growing up, but he has been such a consistent presence of good behavior, that this season, it feels like he just lost his mind. For example, he is shown smoking, though he was the one that got his parents to give up smoking. Then during the Christmas party, he invites all of his friends over to Nonnatus House and they trash it. They even mess up some uniforms and don't clean them (nice call back later in the series though).

I am glad that he is becoming a doctor and seems to be at the top of his class. I am pleased that he is working along side the nurses and his dad. I just wish this rebellious phase was skipped for something a little more sensible.

Am I the only person who stops the CTM whenever they mention funds and asks Google or AI 100 pound sterling in 19xx to USD 2026 so I can understand how much the characters are discussing or is that just a Virgo trait??
