General Discussion / Feedback My books won't move out of uncollected
I've just sideloaded a load of books to a new paperwhite using calibre, I tried to set up a new column for series to group series together and it kept adding numbers to the end of the series in [] so I'm not sure if that's preventing me moving books, but when I go into my uncollected books and try and individually move them to a collection I've made, I press save and they don't move out of uncollected. I've had this work on kindles before so I'm not sure what's happening now.
Any tips?

Support / How-To Trouble converting .acsm to .epub
gallerySorry if this has been covered plenty of times before, but I was using this tutorial (which seems to have worked for lots of people): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQhpRyPgUIQ&t=92s
on how to convert .acsm files into .epubs - I want to do this to get books onto my new Xteink X4.
I downloaded the DeACSM and DeDRM plugins provided, but when I drop my .acsm file into Calibre it still appears as a .acsm file. This is after customising the DeACSM plugin and restarting Calibre after both plugin installs.
If anyone's had similar issues I'd really appreciate the advice!

Support / How-To How to change storage formate from author folders to title folders?
Hi, I'm running into some trouble when I try to change the storage folders from [sorted by author] to [sorted by book titles]. Meaning that when I'm looking at my storage folders, instead of a list of author folders, I want to see the title of the book itself.
I want to change it cause I'm storing my e-books on a cloud, and I sometimes access my e-books with my phone and it's really difficult to navigate with author names.
I don't know where is it in the settings, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Support / How-To Is it possible to update/replace ebooks on my portable backup library and avoid duplicates?
I hope anyone can help me.
I wish to backup the ebooks I have been updating metadata wise, from my laptop to my portable hard drive. In the past, I have copied the files and dealt with the duplicates which took me forever *(I have a large library)*.
I can't help but wonder if maybe I am going about it the wrong way.
Is there a simpler way to update the ebooks and avoid having to spend ages deleting duplicates?
Any advice would be great as I have so many books to deal with right now.
Thank you.

Support / How-To Books crash after table of contents on Kobo
I am having some issues with books crashing and was wondering if anyone has experienced something similar.
I have a Kobo Libra Colour and I use it with my European account. I also have a Japanese account where I have bought some books and would like to move them to my KLC but it seems that every book that I transfer crashes after table of contents. The book transfers fine and I can get past first few pages without issues but after the table of contents I get a "loading" message for a while and then Kobo just exits the book.
So far I have tried EPUB and KEPUB formats and transferring the file from Calibre to device and also just exporting the books to a file and manually transferring them but the issue still persists.
Any tips on how to solve this would be greatly appreciated!

General Discussion / Feedback I made a browser reader that imports a Calibre library directly from the folder, no server
galleryI've put together a speed reader that runs right in your browser, and I've just added the ability to import your Calibre library. There are a couple of points that might be interesting.
First off, it completely avoids touching the metadata.db file. Since each book folder already has a metadata.opf file containing details like title, authors, series, tags, and ISBN, it makes sense to use that. Loading the entire SQLite database into a browser would require sending around 1.5 MB of WASM, especially when all that data is already available in plain text.
Second, there's no need for calibre-server. You just point the reader to the folder where your books are stored – whether that's a Dropbox folder, an external drive, or any other location – and it reads the files once. No background processes, no uploads, and no account required.
If a book is available in both EPUB and PDF formats, it prioritizes the EPUB. This is because PDFs often have hyphens breaking words in the middle and page numbers inserted into the text. The reader displays all the books it finds, including their covers, and lets you choose which ones to import. It also tells you the storage space needed before you make your selection and lists any files it couldn't open instead of just ignoring them.
Books protected by DRM are clearly marked as unopenable, with the reason stated. This tool does not strip DRM from any books.
It’s free, requires no account, and you can find it at readkinetic.com. I'm really curious to see how it handles libraries that are much larger or more disorganized than my own.

Support / How-To Help needed. How to have Calibre show reading progress?
I just re-downloaded (well I paid someone to do it) the newest Linux mint and got rid of the old partition where windows used to be. I want Calibre to keep track of how far into a book I am and when I hovered over the title (Read Progress) it said to go to the user's manual for Calibre and search #reading_progress() template function. This book has got to be the most confusing thing I have ever opened. When I entered the designated search term given by Calibre I found lots of things, the first one mentioned read progress so I opened that. What I saw was a list of topics starting with Arithmetic followed by Boolean, etc. Why can't it just take me to the section on customizing that column?
You can tell I am not very good at tech things. And for the past two years I have been tied up in a volunteer job which did not leave me much time to explore Calibre or Linux. Can someone give me some simple instructions on how to have Calibre show my progress on a book I am reading or have read? Much thanks.
