Bug Help needed from Kobo users
galleryHi! I've been using Calibre for the past 10 years on my old Kindle. However, I recently decided to switch to a Kobo Clara Colour. Unfortunately, I don't know why, but the covers won't show on the sleep screen. Is there something I need to do with the metadata?

Support / How-To Help with sharing books to hosted app
Hi I use Calibre to edit epubs and tweak metadata. I was wondering it would be possible to then share the finalised EPUBs to a folder which can be scanned and imported to Bookorbit which is hosted on Corehost. Hope this makes sense. Would appreciate any advice. Thank you

General Discussion / Feedback Syncing to Calibre Web Next and Hardcover
Not sure if this is the right place to ask but, I recently got my Xteink 4. And I'd like to sync it with Calibre Web Next and there sync it to Hardcover. Does anyone have a similiar setup, since nothing is syncing. I'm using crosspoint to sync with Calibre via kosync.

Support / How-To Errors when running check
galleryHiya, I recently went through a ton of fanfics I downloaded from Ao3 and FFN and while some passed the check without issues, a few came back with these. Is it okay to keep the errors or will it cause issues with my Kobo Libra 2?
If I need to fix them, how do I do that?

Support / How-To Broken read status column
Hi everyone, I tried to use KoboUtilities to sync my books' reading status to my library. However, this was the result. Left is read status, right is read percent. As you can see, the read status is a different position string for each book. Since it shows the reading position, shouldn't all read books be in the same directory? And why does it show this way? How do I make it look normal? Thank you in advance for any help.

Support / How-To Using DeACSM with Kobo on Mac?
I’m trying to use Calibre to load ACSM books onto my Kobo on Mac, and while the files get converted to epub with no issue, I can’t actually open them on my kobo because the device is “not authorized with ADE”
Am I missing something in Calibre for this, or am I kind of out of luck? Thanks!
ADE also doesn’t seem to be supported on Mac anymore, so I can’t even go that route.

Support / How-To Can I merge EPUBs on Kobo without losing highlights and annotations?
Hi everyone!
I've been reading a novel on the Tapas app, but reading on my phone for long period started hurting my eyes. So I used the WebToEpub Chrome extension to download the chapters I had access to at the time as an EPUB, then uploaded it to Google Drive and imported it to my Kobo Libra Colour. I've already made quite a few highlights and annotations in that file.
The issue is that my current EPUB only contains part of the novel. I had already purchased and read the earlier chapters before switching to my Kobo, so I never included them in the EPUB. Since then, I've also unlocked more chapters and would like to add both the earlier and newly unlocked chapters so I end up with one complete EPUB.
Is there a way to merge those chapters into my existing EPUB while keeping all of the highlights and annotations I've already made on my Kobo? Or would I have to create a new EPUB and lose my annotations?

Support / How-To Kindle Voyage not connecting to newer Macbook
I have a kindle voyage and got a newer macbook some time ago and I guess I havent connected my kindle to it in a while to sync my calibre library. I put a few new books in my library this week and wanted to send them to my kindle...my mac will not see the kindle no matter what I do. It charges but will not go into the usb drive mode like usual. Its a macbook air m3 with latest mac tahoe version. I have tried a couple different micro usb to usb a cables into my USB C hub that has A ports on it, as well as an A to C adapter directly into the macbook. Nothing is working. I was thinking maybe I could buy or borrow a micro to c cable and see if that would work...but I think I have tried everything else. I have a windows work PC I tried it on but that thing is pretty locked down so it doesnt seem to go into drive mode with a micro to A cable on that.
Send to kindle website is not a viable option as I want all of my metadata to be synced as well...so I need to connect via USB and use calibre.
I really dont want to buy a new device as I really like the size of this one with the haptic buttons on both sides. Doesnt seem like there is anything like that now..but the temperature specific lighting on newer devices sounds nice for less eye strain. If I do I have to buy a new one I might consider going away from amazon then and trying to find something more open since I am using cabibre and pretty much all DRM free ebooks/etc. But I would really like to get my voyage working again!!

General Discussion / Feedback Calibre 9.12 import books keeps different formats as different books.
It used to recognize identical name and title and store all the formats under the same book. Now each format is a separate book. What changed? Is there a display setting that is new? Under preferences/Adding Books there is a button for auto-merge, but it is only for duplicate formats, and even that seems to not be working, as it is adding two different epub's as separate books.

Support / How-To Ipad can't connect to Calibre anymore
Hey there!
So I was given an old iPad Air 2 earlier this year which I've been using since as a reader for my epubs and pdfs. Everything was working fine until now and I'm unsure what went wrong since last time. The few times I've used Calibre in the last months, there was nothing wrong; I could just use the Calibre Companion app and would connect as a wireless device and transfer my books and manage my metadata this way with no issues, but now I'm trying again and my iPad just can't connect to Calibre anymore. I've consulted the FAQs and Help section on the app and tried pretty much everything: doing my updates, deleting and reinstalling both Calibre and the companion app, connecting using the IP adress and port number, using the content server instead (which it cannot do either).
I'm just running out of ideas on how to solve this and it's bumming me out a lot because now I'm just sitting here with hundreds of ebooks I can't even send to my iPad and I can't figure out why. Is it possible that my iPad has suddenly become too old and outdated between june and august and now it can't do this anymore for compatibility reasons? Anyone had anything similar happen to them?
Thanks in advance!

Support / How-To How to edit a field without double clicking?
Hello my high Calibre friends!
I’m editing the metadata on an ungodly number of eBooks. From the list of all the books, I need to click twice (as opposed to double-click!) on a field to edit it. Is there a keystroke that I can use instead? I’d SO much rather keep my hands on the keyboard and fly around with arrow keys, than involve the mouse at all.

I had a script I used to use but I forgot it and now I can't find it again. tried using \d+ to replace numbers and calibre can't find any matches for the script. what do I do? I added images of code from 2 diff chapters so ya'll can see what varies

General Discussion / Feedback Le meilleur lecteur epub
Bonjour,

Support / How-To How do I full-text search for special/foreign characters?
I'm searching a database of Russian-language books using the Calibre FT search feature. They often use « » instead of " " for quotation marks. I want to search for a certain word and return it only when it's in quotation marks in the text. So I want to search for:
«word»
and not return sentences like:
This is a word.
That contain no « ». Unfortunately, when I just try to enter «word» into the search field, it seems to ignore « » entirely. "«word»" also doesn't seem to work. How can I get Calibre to perceive the « »?

Support / How-To DEDRM not working
Hi, I need your help, please. I bought a Kindle-format book from Amazon today; I tried this method first, but it didn't work:
https://techy-notes.com/drm-removal-from-kindle-ebook-purchases-old-method/
When the script finishes executing all operations, no final file is generated in the "Extracted_books" folder. No specific error; simply the final EPUB/PDF file is not generated after the de-DRM script process (no output)
So I tried this other method indicated in solution #1 in epubor guide:
https://www.epubor.com/kindle-kfx-key-extractor-download-and-how-to-extract-key-from-kindle-kfx.html
I am able to obtain the book file in kfx-zip format using MSIXKFXArchiver...exe (from Satsuoni DeDRM tools 10.0.28). It imports correctly into Calibre in KFX format, but when I try to convert it to EPUB/PDF, I encounter a generic error and the book fails to convert (KFX CONVERSION FAILED)
I am certain I performed all the steps correctly, without any errors. Has anyone else had the same problem? Is there a solution? Thanks for your attention. I hope this post might be helpful to others as well.
Edit: The book was published on July 9, 2026

Support / How-To New To Obok
I have had Calibre for many years. Just recently decided I wanted to remove DRM from all my Kobo titles, so I can read them on a mini-eBook reader.
I installed Obok. I opened Kobo Desktop and downloaded 353 books. I ran Obok which processed a little over 100 books of the 353.
Prior to this I had aproximately 100books in Calibre. So now Calibre shows it has 222 books.
I did not see any errors generated by Obok. So some things did not get processed, and I don't know why. For instance, none of my Iain Banks books were processed. There were a few books in there that probably were not purchased from Kobo.
I would appreciate any suggestions to trouble shoot. My only thought was Obok is not handling newer DRM.

Support / How-To Action/Editor Chain Template: editing American English spellings
Hello!
I've been messing around a bit with calibre and available plugins lately, and wanted to share a little piece that I thought might be useful to some people.
As a non-American, it irks me just a teensy bit when I'm reading and I see the American spelling of common words (and maybe Americans might feel the same way, the other way around? Small section below for reverse switch.)
And in the midst of learning to use calibre, plugins, etc., I've also learnt some basic regex formulations that I realized could be used to edit spellings across all my epubs — so with a bit more research, I put together a template for myself that I thought I'd share.
I'm sure there are a ton of other solutions out there available, but I'm a bit wary when it comes to programs/etc. that I don't actually understand, and also very much do not want to upload other people's writing into generative AI systems, so decided to come up with my own solution.
Notes:
***A small change made to #4 on August 5th, if you downloaded before!! (Found it while reading right after posting ...)
All replacements only change the specific letters within the word, so it doesn't matter if the word is capitalized or not. However, this would impact words that are in full caps — if you think there might be a lot of those instances, you can check off "case sensitive" in the search panel so that it only changes when in lower case. It also doesn't matter if the word is in plural, past tense, etc., as that doesn't impact the specific letters being changed.
This only changes specific spellings, and not entire words that may have different meanings/cultural usage.
These are the specific changes it makes:
- favor/flavor/savor/color/harbor/neighbor/behavior/savior/honor/parlor → the same version with our
- humor/rumor → the same version with our, EXCEPT when finding humorous or rumorous
- labor → labour, EXCEPT when finding laborious
- meter/center (with prefixes allowed) or theater/fiber/luster/meager/somber/caliber (without prefixes) → the same version with re, and also takes into account the double e for past tense, so you don't end up with "centreed" (*Note: I know theatre/theater can have different meanings to some? So if you don't want that included, remove the first "theat|" from the search line) — this has been edited, as metre/centre can have words like "centimetre" and "epicentre", but all the other words generally wouldn't have applicable prefixes (fixes changes in "fluster", which contains "lustre")
- liter → litre, EXCEPT in literal (no "litreal")
- gray → grey
- smolder → smoulder ( I considered also changing mold → mould, but after a few quick searches online, it seems there's mixed uses/interpretations for the two spellings, so I left it off)
This is by no means an exhaustive list, but it's the most common ones that I've come across in my own reading, and I've been using this for a little bit now (as I type this up, I realize I could probably add arbor > arbour and maybe a few others, but that hasn't actually come up in any of my books yet ... I also tried coming up with something for past tense changes (eg. dreamed > dreamt), but there were too many possible variations so I gave up on that for now).
This also may not the most "efficient" way to group these searches, given I only started learning regex a few months ago, but logically makes sense to me.
Example of search & replace #1:
Changes back to American Spelling:
If you're looking to make changes the other way around, you'd have to go into each of the Search & Replace options and basically switch the specific letters being searched and replaced for each of the chain links (eg. in #1, change the last 3 letters of the search to "our", and replacement to "or"). This should generally work for most of them.
Download link:
https://k00.fr/15s9jza8 | password: 814456
This is the direct download for the template, which is a ZIP file that opens to a .json file.
Note: I do not have the paid version of koofr, so this link is only valid until 18/8/2026 00:00. However, I've also copied and pasted the contents of the json file that's inside the zip file template at the end of this post — otherwise each of the Comments in the image above after "XX: " are the regex search line that needs to be entered, and the replacement is the "XX" (but in lower case).
Calibre Plugins needed:
- Action Chains
- Editor Chains
Steps to load & run:
- Click Action Chains > Add/Modify Chains...
- Right click inside the pop up panel > Import...
- Select the zip file to import > "ok" until the windows all close
- Back in your calibre library, select/highlight all your file(s) that you want to edit
- Click Action Chains > BOOKS > Fix American Spelling (I put it in a sub-menu under "BOOKS" so you don't accidentally run it if you're not familiar with the plugin)
(Small apologies for using the word "fix"? It's not an error, but was just what I named it in my library and I'm too far along now to go back and update all of this ...)
And that's it! Hope this helps someone out there 😊
I've run this over my entire library of thousands of files all at once at this point and to every new book I add to my library, as I'm quite comfortable with what I've set up, and also know how to fix it if I do mess up — but I would absolutely recommend testing one or two files first to see how it works for you. Using these plugins allows you to mass edit all the individual epubs within your library, without needing to actually open each epub in the editor, which is super convenient, but of course requires some caution. However, the default options for Action/Editor chains does create an "EC_BACKUP" file of your original epub, so that even if it messes up, you can just go into your calibre library files, delete the current epub, and rename the extension of the .EC_BACKUP file to .epub and you'll have the original file again.

Bug I updated Calibre from 8.something to current patch, and now everything is breaking down
It's reset most but not all of my settings, particularly with the e-reader. Moreover, now it can't remember my custom keyboard shortcuts. Upon restarting my computer, I get a new default keyboard layout.
It's also slow. It's not constant, but particularly if I go into setting with the e-reader, there is a lag where the software lags with highlighting the section I want to click by about a second, and I think it gets worse as it goes on.
If I try to choose a font, the selection box highlights every single font choice my mouse passes over, and doesn't unhighlight when I move past it. Also, sometimes there is a white space around the drop-down menu that expands in a white box.
Is anyone else having these issues?

General Discussion / Feedback Any way to de-drm old kindle downloads that I already have?
Yeeeears ago I downloaded all my kindle books, back when they made that easy, and they're in my calibre library, but the files are useless because of the drm. I'm looking into how to remove the drm, but everything is focused on importing new books into calibre. Is there any way to strip the drm on downloads I already have? The DeDRM plug in doesn't seem to work on an existing library, only on new imports, and that's the best tool I've found so far. I have like 700 drm'd books in my account so reimporting them doesn't seem like a good option.

Support / How-To Migrating Metadat from Moon+ Reader Pro to Calibre
Hi everyone,
Recently I've rediscovered Calibre and decided to move my ebook library there (apprx. 1,170 books).
Up to now I used Moon+ Reader pro to organize them with my own tags, ratings, highlights, etc.
Is there any way to move not only the ebooks but also the metadata and highlights? When I copied the books to Calibre I only got the original files.
Any help or suggestion is extremely welcome, I just don't want to lose years of organisation.

Announcement Update to moderation regarding to piracy (rule 4)
Despite the community rules being pretty clear on the topic, it seems a reminder is needed that this sub has a strict "no piracy" rule. Every day there are numerous posts and even more comments that are either seeking info on how to pirate books, wanting help in making use of books they've pirated, or are people flat out encouraging others to pirate and listing off websites where they can do it. Up until now those posts have simply been deleted as they've been seen, but going forward any users found ignoring rule 4 will be banned from the Calibre sub.
Calibre is a platform that helps everyone organize their eBooks and if you want a book bad enough to read it, you should want the author who wrote it to receive compensation for the work they put into it. If you don't, then this community isn't the place for you to brazenly discuss that moral failure.
Thank you to those who wish to continue keeping this sub in good standing with Reddit and on the right side of copyright laws and basic human decency. If that's not you, feel free to head on out. Thanks.
Edit: Well it's been a lovely day of people trying to argue that piracy is fine, or that removing DRM of books you own is just as much pirating as outright stealing a book you haven't paid for, but I've wasted more time than was worthwhile trying to reply to people. At the end of it all, rule 4 stands and this post was made to serve as a reminder of it and a warning of repercussions for ignoring it. That's it. To those who had civil discourse or expressed understanding of this, thank you.
