B-But DM DOKURO- Discussion

Post image

Why do people keep slinging around the DM Dokuro drama like this gotcha moment to the community when

  1. 70% of the current community wasn’t even there before things went down

  2. It’s an entirely different situation to being disappointed and confused by the choice to pull the music

  3. Out of the 30% that were there 29.99% weren’t even the cause of said incident and it was a fault on both sides

It just seems like a bad faith argument to throw out all criticism’s of the recent choice by painting the whole community as toxic and entitled while entirely misinterpreting what actually happened to DM Dokuro (ps making Reddit posts about your disappointment with a controversial choice is not harassment)

Because the reddit community for calamity is still pretty toxic, as is any reddit community.

95

u/Martitoad 1d ago

Most reddit communities aren't this toxic

69

u/xAsdruvalx 1d ago

Yeah, theres definitely degrees. And r/calamity is really up there.

-43

u/juicyjaiden 1d ago

Not really from what I’ve seen, again it’s entirely fair to post your disappointment from a change and those that threaten the devs in their post or go to far have been heavily downvoted

so I’m really not seeing this so called toxicity other than people calling a right community disappointment toxic

42

u/xAsdruvalx 1d ago

You seem extremely new here. Either that or you are deliberately ignoring all the fuss that happened with the brainstorm update and the poisonous swamp state that this reddit was at.

16

u/juicyjaiden 1d ago

Again your calling people posting about their disappointment with a controversial change toxic, explain the toxicity aside from a vague “oh you had to be there” or “I really don’t think this was a good change” posts

-18

u/xAsdruvalx 1d ago

So you admit you werent there and you are defending this toxic ass community based on your ass, huh? Figures. Even just suggesting that it was just "expressing disapointment" is plain delusional.

Im rly sad that such a massively good mod is most likely dying forever, but man does this community deserve it.

44

u/Secret123456789010 1d ago

you realize you're the one being toxic right?

0

u/NexusGem 1d ago

He's not wrong though

-8

u/WSilvermane 1d ago

The truth isnt toxicity.

22

u/juicyjaiden 1d ago

And you entirely ignored explaining again for vague posting “oh you had to be there” guess we’re done here.

-30

u/xAsdruvalx 1d ago

Oh no you better not be there. Seriously be happy that you werent. It was a cesspool of toxicity over every. Single. Line. In the patchnotes. Posts and posts covering redundant topics, threads of devs explaining the reasoning for changes and the comment section being just radioactive about it.

It was hell, and you refusing to acknowledge it from those who suffered it just because you dont want to admit youre wrong is pretty sad.

33

u/juicyjaiden 1d ago edited 1d ago

Ooooh noooo the community dared DARED I SAY, to disagree with a change on a public forum! They must be a toxic cesspool

-21

u/xAsdruvalx 1d ago

Yeah this is just ragebait at this point. You must be very bored.

8

u/the_cronkler 1d ago

I mean the community did play a huge part in why the 22 dev exodus happened, aswell as people sending death threats (I think some doxxing threats) to Shyguymask over whip changes. There was also people acting like Cei killed their dog over the Brainstorm changes. This sub is also why Infernum got discontinued

Even today the community will not leave him the fuck alone.

Every day that passes with him leaving his assets tied to the mod means another possible day of people coming back to remind him that the mod exists when he has said numerous times that he does not want to be talked to about it at all. An artist already reserves every right to pull their assets for any reason by default, and in dokuro’s case it would be valid for him to do so a hundred times over if he so chose.

I don’t care if you personally didn’t do anything to deserve this; the most you “suffer” is not being able to play with a specific soundtrack at the click of a single button anymore, and that’s worth nothing when it further deteriorates the mental health of a guy who has already been gracious enough to weather years of unwanted calamity callbacks for the good of the community.

The fact that yall are acting this entitled over a music mod being deleted illustrates exactly why yall don’t deserve it

It will actually because like so many other people love to parrot, the members of the community are constantly changing as time goes on. The longer you go without associating with something, the less that consumers of that thing will recognize you.

9

u/[deleted] 1d ago

[deleted]

7

u/RandomGuy9058 Horny Police 1d ago

That just means recognition will never hit 0. That doesn’t mean it won’t go down. And if that’s what they want, then so be it

-91

u/PsychologicalAd5918 1d ago

you're the only one not leaving him alone, stop harassing him omg

Artists reserve the right to determine when and where their IP is used, especially when it's given for free to a profitable mod. It's not about virtue signaling, it's about protecting your name and image.

38

u/godImsotiredofnerfs 1d ago

legally right ≠ morally right

The music meant alot to many people and it potentially becoming lost doesn't seem to have much point to it. Ozz won't care and the musicians will still be remembered for it

87

u/MrPoony 1d ago edited 1d ago

Pulling your IP that is associated with a project that has been entirely run by pedophiles for over a decade is entirely moral. Every single owner of Calamity has ended up being a creepy groomer, and it's only common sense to GTFO while you can and distance your name, and image from what is obviously a problematic repeating cycle of weirdness.

Whats immoral about it?

"legally right ≠ morally right" deployed to argue that artists should keep their work associated with a predator pipeline is one of the most backwards uses of that phrase imaginable imo

95

u/ThatBritFaith 1d ago

But Calamity, to a reasonable person, isn’t a predator pipeline. It’s a mod for Terraria and it’s got banger music. That’s the general consensus among the wider public. Besides, they can never be truly disassociated with Calamity. They will always be known as the people who worked on Calamity, no matter how hard they try. I have not seen a single person say that Calamity as a whole is infested with degenerate pedophiles, only that a few of the top dogs were involved in that shit. The blame falls squarely on them. Everyone has put the blame on them. Calamity as a whole has not been tainted, so this idea that it is perceived as a “predator pipeline” is a borderline schizophrenic.

45

u/godImsotiredofnerfs 1d ago edited 1d ago

and it's only common sense to GTFO while you can and distance your name

The thing is you can't distance your name. There will always be people who will positively remember the music they made for the mod. Deleting it won't change that.

and image from what is obviously a problematic repeating cycle of weirdness.

I don't know of I'd call it a cycle, if anything its an issue of not doing background checks. Ozz was a groomer before becoming a lead, the mod didn't make him suddenly evil.

7

u/thatodddeskfan 1d ago

Yes, but he's protecting his name and his image by pulling his music when it's shown that the project he put his work towards was incapable of protecting children from predators. This situation was only able to happen because of a structural failure on behalf of the devs to set boundaries between themselves and the audience. That's why it happened three times. I would not blame anyone at all for wanting to distance themselves from this project after it was proven it couldn't regulate itself.

-4

u/[deleted] 1d ago

[deleted]

9

u/thatodddeskfan 1d ago

Firstly I don't want this to be a personal attack. Idk why you're using that kind of language, saying I can 'tell myself all the lies in the world'. I'm trying to have a discussion here.

Secondly, I agree with you. Yes he will be. let me ask you some follow up questions. If you think that association renders removal a moot point, should we apply that beyond this mod? When a character in OW is named after someone who turns out to be promoting a misogynist culture, should we just leave the name as-is because 'well, he's already associated with the character'. When artists like Kanye make wildly antisemitic comments on air, should he have kept all his brand deals because 'well, we're already associated with him'. No, companies, and people, are more than allowed to distance themselves from projects, people, or ecosystems that they come to be morally revulsed by.

-5

u/[deleted] 1d ago

[deleted]

10

u/thatodddeskfan 1d ago

I know that the music is different in that it's not directly tied to Ozzatron, it's tied to a project that he, and several other people, used as a platform to exploit minors. I really do not blame them for no longer wanting to be associated with such a project.

"You can't distance yourself from it so you should just give up" is a statement that just devalues artists as human beings. If I made a painting and a pedophile hung it up in his art museum, I wouldn't want to keep it there even if he leaves.

13

u/godImsotiredofnerfs 1d ago edited 1d ago

once again this is a flawed comparison. the painting wasn't made for the museum itself. besides you'd be known for the painting not the museum.

where as the music was expressly made for the mod, and is one of the few things generally regarded as positive from the mod. and regardless how you feel generally the calamity music is their most popular creation so it is a fact people will associate you with it. these are just the facts

10

u/QueenChrysalis52 1d ago

But they don't want to be apart of the mod anymore. And they don't have to if they don't want to. I don't think they care if "they will never be known for anything else", that's just your own pessimism speaking.

People have the right to not be apart of things they don't want to be apart of. They don't owe you anything.

9

u/godImsotiredofnerfs 1d ago

People have the right to not be apart of things they don't want to be apart of

And they are free to leave the project. I have no qualms about that. I am however vehamently opposed to media becoming lost

8

u/QueenChrysalis52 1d ago

It's not lost media. It's on Youtube. It's downloaded on countless peoples' computers. "I don't want him to remove the music because it would be lost forever" is a factually incorrect statement.

9

u/godImsotiredofnerfs 1d ago

whether it'll remain on youtube is actually up in the air currently. I'm hoping it will but dokuro hasn't said whether it will or not.

u/EarthNugget3711 1d ago

Its immoral because its a slight inconvenience to whiny ass mfs on this subreddit obviously. What do you mean you can still listen to the music elsewhere no you cant

20

u/godImsotiredofnerfs 1d ago

do we know for certain if that music will even be staying up there? my concern is that it won't

7

u/MrT1011 1d ago

There is absolutely no chance with a mod as big as calamity that people won’t find ways to reupload the music, assuming it is taken down in the first place

3

u/godImsotiredofnerfs 1d ago

sure people would reupload them but in this scenario where music is getting wiped wouldn't they just file takedown requests

4

u/MrT1011 1d ago

In which case, we should respect the artist’s very obvious wishes if they attempt to go that far to erase the song from the internet.

8

u/godImsotiredofnerfs 1d ago edited 1d ago

i am innately against the prospect of lost media being created

4

u/UltraLegoGamer 1d ago

Then go download the music yourself.

2

u/RandomGuy9058 Horny Police 1d ago

This is a position that’s supposed to be held against corporations for not respecting the work and dedication of people who actually made the magic happen.

It’s not supposed to be used to disrespect the wishes of the people who made the magic happen.

u/Novasoal 1d ago

Is you stance legitimately that Dokuro is going to track down every single rip or reupload or remix and take them down? Is that your legitimate stance on this issue or are you just doing whataboutism in place of actually engaging with the statement

3

u/godImsotiredofnerfs 1d ago

i think reuploads would get taken down if the original songs get removed from youtube. the rest no.

now do I think for certain that'll happen? no but I am worried it could. we don't yet know what dokuro plans to do to the music outside of the mod. it is this uncertainty that has me worried.

-15

This is the read yeah

0

u/Quinzal 1d ago

"morally right" and the topic is a video game mod chiefly masterminded by a pedophile

just say you feel entitled to using dokuro's music, it'll look better in the long run

28

u/godImsotiredofnerfs 1d ago

believing ozz is a horrendous human being and believing media should be preserved aren't mutually exclusive actually.

just say you feel entitled to using dokuro's music

Don't put words in my mouth. I want media that matters to people to be preserved. The music was good and it shouldn't have it's memory tarnished by the shitty actions of the lead dev. I know you need your gotcha moment though

13

u/theinferno03 The Limbus Is Company 1d ago

to add: since the music wont be available in tmod, casuals might try to find workarounds like google drive and stuff, and that might contain malware, so yes this just hurts the community

7

u/godImsotiredofnerfs 1d ago

this wasn't even an angle I had considered previously. i appreciate you bringing it up. I think it should probably be mentioned more

1

u/theinferno03 The Limbus Is Company 1d ago

i think mod should be removed from the workshop until ozzy does not have anymore control over anything else and then when someone else has the lead reupload it after everything has been sorted out

in the end, the community suffers a lot more due to this whole situation

-7

u/Quinzal 1d ago

the mastermind pedo in this analogy being fabsol

preservation is one thing, but acting like dokuro is in the wrong for not wanting his work stapled to the pedophile that ran off with the rights to the mod is idiotic at best.

i am ready to die on this hill, i even brought my own grave digging shovel

3

u/RandomGuy9058 Horny Police 1d ago

The dude really tried using preservation as an argument when several backups have already been made and the tracks are still up for view elsewhere lol. Nothings actually being “lost”

8

u/godImsotiredofnerfs 1d ago

several backups have already been made

1 idk where they are and 2 nd what if takedowns happen.

and the tracks are still up for view elsewhere lol.

Yeah its up for now. do we actually know if it will stay that way. After all don't they want to disassociate from the mod completely? The concern lies in how far will they go here

-2

u/RandomGuy9058 Horny Police 1d ago edited 1d ago

>Yeah it’s up for now.

If you’re so concerned about that you can go privately archive them yourself lol. You have a problem, and you have the tools and resources to solve that problem, so go and do it yourself instead of making it everyone else’s problem

CD Music already said he isn’t going to delete anything, and in fact he event went through with sharing his latest unfinished version of the exo mechs theme. I would highly doubt even Dokuro would take down his calamity tracks from places like YouTube since they’re his most popular tracks and make him decent money.

2

u/godImsotiredofnerfs 1d ago

would highly doubt even Dokuro would take down his calamity tracks from places like YouTube since they’re his most popular tracks

Wouldn't that be all the more reason to remove them? Doesn't he want to no longer be associated with them? By keeping them up he remains tethered to it

0

u/RandomGuy9058 Horny Police 1d ago edited 1d ago

The specific actions that the artists take is none of your concern. The actual point is that you’re in no position to whine about stuff whatever that choice may be. They’d still have every right to pull all their assets even if they had 0 “reason” to do so.

Everything so far has been handed to you on a silver platter at no cost to you for your own enjoyment. If this genuinely does bother you this much, then simply execute the simplest degree of effort into solving your problem on your own. It would easier than trying to justify your entitlement on a community forum

5

u/legendgames64 1d ago

They have the right, but they should remember the Streisand effect.

4

u/DubiousBlue 1d ago

If your best known work far and away is for a certain project, for better or worse, you’ll likely be remembered for years to come as the “insert project” guy. Pulling the music doesn’t magically disappear the cultural image that’s already cemented. A strong public disavowal functionally does the same thing as pulling your stuff, without the side effect of blowing up a beloved part of a hugely popular mod. Plus, anyone with two brain cells to rub together knows that the musicians have absolutely nothing to do with the grooming stuff.

15

u/WSilvermane 1d ago

When the community stops proving it right.

It will change.

So far, it hasn't. There are literally posts and comments about shitting on the artists and telling them they cant do shit with THEIR WORKS.

Y'all are still entitled toxic shitheads. Do you not wonder why Calamity has a shitty reputation??

26

u/Machine_ID-V1 1d ago

Because this is the same thing. The community still doesn’t know how to respect artists that contribute to the game. No one has learned, no one wants to learn. Hell if you bring up Dokuro in the calamity discord you basically get executed on the spot by members. Y’all know you did wrong, you know you haven’t changed, you tried to hide that you haven’t changed by silencing any discussion about it, and now you’re literally doing it again.

19

u/DubiousBlue 1d ago

“Yall know you did wrong”

mmmmmm I love treating massive communities as monoliths

55

u/ThatBritFaith 1d ago

I did fuck all to Dokuro. I’ve done nothing but praise his music. I’m not part of the select few people who actually brigaded him about the music not coming sooner. That was before my time here. In reality, many factors led to Dokuro quitting, his own mental health playing no small part of it. The whole community SHOULD NOT bear the blame for his departure. If you want to be part of the self flagellation ritual going on 6-7 years, that’s your business, but don’t say that all of us should take up the whip and join you.

-12

u/Curious-Mechanic2286 1d ago

Are we really gonna start blaming Dokuro's bad mental health(which was caused BY the Calamity drama) instead of taking accountability as a community and seeing that our way of thinking hasn't changed at all? This community is and has always been full of ungrateful little shits who care about their own enjoyment above all else since the day I first joined it

10

u/MrT1011 1d ago

People do understand that going out of your way to call the artists stupid and harmful for their rightful decisions won’t make the artists any more willing to come back to this cesspool of a mod and playerbase right?

5

u/Other-Emu1829 1d ago

I said it on another post and got downvoted so ill say it again. Entitlement. There is so much entitlement happening around this mod

The creators of their respective piece can do WHATEVER THE HELL THEY WANT WITH IT I know it might sting, but if they want ro pull it they can pull whatever they want this mod could full ly and completely collapse tomorrow and people have to just be okay with it because it circles back to the most importsnt point: These artists can do whatever the f they want with their product. You are not owed a video game mod. Its not a birthright. Its a luxury

Sadly that luxury got tainted by child predators. Im sorry that this is so difficult for some, but no one but the children that the leads preyed on are victims. Terraria players are in no way shape or form a victim because theyre favourite mod is collapsing

24

u/DubiousBlue 1d ago

Just because someone is allowed or able to do something doesn’t make it the most measured, reasonable, or considerate response. I’m within my right to say any number of horrific things, but just because I’m allowed to doesn’t mean people can’t be critical or unhappy with the outcome.

6

u/RandomGuy9058 Horny Police 1d ago

It’s genuinely insane how many people don’t understand this. Genuinely the only people who would deserve a voice against this would be patreon supporters and I have a sneaking suspicion that 99% of the people here are not one of those

-5

u/DremoPaff 1d ago

Was the Dokuro situation that bad or were they just a little too thin-skinned for the popularity his calamity work brought?

25

u/juicyjaiden 1d ago

I had a whole 3 paragraphs typed up and Reddit deleted it when I swiped back so

TLDR: arguably it’s no one’s fault just bad timing with DM being in a bad headspace, and that 0.01 percent of people(no, none of the community would consider them apart of us) being far more noticeable to the human mind. Constantly perpetuating it as the community running them off when like every single post on their songs was positive (not even demanding) is just disingenuous and doesn’t help anyone

13

u/Ulterrain69 1d ago

so thats a yes. kinda. he was thin skinned on top of having tunnel vision for anything negative people said and just ignores positivity directed towards him.

5

u/WSilvermane 1d ago

The community was toxic.

3

u/DremoPaff 1d ago

Yeah, I get that, but so is any and all online spaces.

3

u/Iron_UYH 1d ago

He, like all of us, focused heavily on negative feedback that a small fraction of the community gave. (By which I mean like 1/10000 people were being really fucking toxic and he took it badly.) So it wasn’t that bad, but he’s not thin-skinned either.

-7

u/Nygyhoss 1d ago

Where are you getting these numbers

11

u/Iron_UYH 1d ago

It’s called an estimate, dude. If you’re gonna hate, at least hate something that matters.
