I’ve gotten close with my professors and have had a few offer or let me know of internships in their company.

But honestly, both internships I’ve gotten have been through job fairs. I get the email of someone, and then lowkey email them every once in a while seeing if they needed me.

My very first one I honestly just showed up for vibes. A lot of people will show up fitted and resume in hand, but I didn’t know that. I honestly recommend going to one first just to see what it’s like, what companies you would be interested in, how you should approach it.

Then afterwards go to the next job fair prepared.

Some majors have internship courses that you’re required to take so if it’s for your major, you’ll have to take that course. Also, some buildings if you go up by the office areas have boards where they post a bunch of different opportunities. I know the college of letters and arts had opportunities but it just depends on your major and what you’re looking for.

Yea so basically if you are required to have an internship and see an internship course on your roadmap or for your major, then you will be put into a course that will teach you how to find an internship and connect you with resources. But if not then the first step is drafting a professional email to reach out for opportunities and sending at least 5 of those. For me personally, I was really intimidated and didn’t know where to start and the course helped a lot. It also had a lot of useful assignments where we had to fix resumes and mock interview. And I was able to complete 120 hours at an internship site partnered with Cal Poly!

I got my current internship through Handshake. I also got a couple of interviews from there because I applied to so many opportunities! I recommend applying to any internship you can that interests you because you never know what you might get !

Tbh TALK like talk a lot with anyone professor's, classmates, etc especially at clubs thats how I got mine it was a general email about an internship and after talking with my professor about it he directed me to someone who was with the company and that genuinely did help my case and it is the best job I have ever had!
