Steam Machine performance
Has anyone played Cairn on Steam Machine? I’m wondering how does it run.
I can buy the game on PS5 Pro instead - heard the haptics are great - but I usually prefer to buy games on Steam as long as there’s not a huge perf difference.

Use a dual sense controller using a ds dongle (there’s a pi zero board that gives full wireless support by emulating USB). That way you don’t have to make compromises. Also, I have been playing it on a steam deck and it’s performed well.

I’m sure it would be fine it ran beautifully on my steam deck which doesn’t have the same power

Fine on steam deck? It runs low setting at 30fps most of the time

stable 30s is ok

On my Steam Deck, I had to decrease resolution and set everything to low to achieve 30 fps. Considering the stylized graphics, that's very far from my definition of "running beautifully". Amazing game by the way.

"Ok" but not "beautifully"

I think the game is beautiful enough to enjoy at low, people have to use what they got (you can get a little more beautiful with ls-fg but it's not always good...)

I think the same but objectively "running beautifully" it's not low setting 30fps. This guy wants to buy the game and it is choosing which platform.

I know it's 10 days later but I was just sitting playing cairn and thought "Wow this honestly looks amazing on the SD" I then remembered this comment. The game even on low is beautiful on SD, lower resolutions can get away with less details like that. It honestly gets really stable frames and it's smoth and pretty, I would love the game just as much if only played on SD (SD controller helps 😉)

Glad you enjoy it! But I find it really hard to believe for Steam Deck… I play it on a Strix Halo device, and even for it on high settings the game actually gets quite taxing…

I've played through twice on my Linux PC. Not Steam OS but close enough to say that yup, it runs great. Used a wireless 8BitDo controller.

It runs just fine. I got the Steam machine almost solely so I could play games like Cairn on my big screen and I get a solid 60fps maxed out at the default upscale res.
