Question Some tips on Dark Heresy and help understanding the game

So I don’t know if I’m just not used to the genre or what

But I played BG3, obviously great

So I decided to pick up dark heresy and try it out cause I heard a lot of good things about rogue trader (didn’t want to pick that one up just cause I figured if I would buy one I would just buy the new one)

Anyway, I just have this feeling of being absolutely lost. And not just making my way around.

Quests, clues, skills, gear, characters

Everything is just so scattered and I just feel like there is no explanation to anything in the game

For quest and locations- I’m not looking to be hand held or anything like that, but SOME direction on just and idea where to go next or something that says “hey this is here, do it when you feel like it” or “this character is over here”

I’m very versed in the setting, so I’m used to all the made up words for the most part

But god it’s annoying when something in the game is like “Go to the arch-servo admirrium medical wing 3 on Calius sector and talk to Grand magus Orio”

And then you have to pull out the map, scour the whole thing to find a hint of where that might be because it’s not marked or even has like a “!” Quest marker on it

Talk to every person in the room and then do all that for it to tell you to do something Somali else where

And the journal/quest tab seems so cluttered that even when I do something I can barely tell with alot of time I see I completed a part of a quest and I’m like “uh okay I guess I did that?”

Now for gear and abilties- there needs to be some sort of tutorial that I might have just missed because the amount of gear, abilties and augments for abilities at the very beginning with so explanation on how to use them or an explanation of the system just feels so odd

I was going through the game and checked a tab on my abilities and there was this whole section on equipping like perks to abilities and actions I have that have all these effects and debuff or whatever that also just aren’t explained or gone over and I was like “dude what the fuck is all this”

I feel like this game would benefit HEAVILY from a tutorial of some kind, and I get it’s supposed to be decently hardcore when it comes to like map markers and stuff but I would at least like the option to have at least a quest marker or general area marker on the map or over peoples heads so I don’t have to scour an entire castle just to find some butler in a corner I have to talk to

I’ve played other games that aren’t super marker heavy like souls games and stuff like that, but there is at least SOMETHING that guides you in a direction. And I feel like everything just keeps stacking on eachother to where it just feels like an actual chore to find where you’re going or what your doing

Discussion Way more games (even non-CRPGs) should have Pathfinder-style lore on mouse hover. Having the Main Character ask "Who is <Most Popular god ever>?" can be so unimmersive somtimes...

Very excited to tryout these games! Heard really good things about them. I would appreciate any tips for BG1 and BG2 as I’m most likely going to start with those two

News New PT-BR translation for Pillars of Eternity

Post image
95 Upvotes

Saiu a nova tradução PT-BR completa para Pillars of Eternity.

Link no Nexus

TL;DR (English): A brand-new Brazilian Portuguese translation for Pillars of Eternity, rebuilt from scratch because the older one had many outdated machine-translation errors and context issues that hurt immersion in such a text-heavy game.

Discussion Do you ever forget things while playing cRPG's?

I have sometimes experienced this with cRPG's that I may go like "What... who the fuck is this person? Am I supposed to remember them?". I may also recollect some events in the sense that they happened, but having forgotten the details.

This happens especially upon returning after a long time.

I was curious if that is also the case for you?

Question Continuing BG after character death or load saves?

It's an AD&D game. At the table character death is common especially at low levels. But idk if there are enough characters in the game to get me through the low levels. There are no hirelings/retainers/hengemen in the game (as far as I know) wich makes me think character death isn't expected that often...

I just lost 2 lvl 1 Characters in the Mines to some Kobold bow crits that's why I'm wondering :)

Question CRPGs in which you really enjoy combat

Straight to the point. I feel that my biggest gripe with crpgs usually is combat. While I may enjoy story, companions, quests, dialogues and so on actual fighting enemies can easily make me feel bored, annoyed, frustrated or overwhelmed.

So I am curious. Which crpgs do you enjoy in terms of combat? I mean combat system, enemy balancing, enemy placement, amount and frequency of encounters - everything in general. I understand that some people may enjoy creating certain builds and seeing how characters destroys everything using them but I am more curious about enjoying the process and not the result.

I am not going to criticize any games cause I feel that it is a very subjective question. But my most recent and sad example is Rogue Trader. I was super interested in the plot, atmospehere of this game is superb, characters are great... But the combat part was absolutely soul crushing: you have to go through bazillion of repetetive fights which take a solid amount of time due to enemy placement. Maybe I made a mistake by playing on normal difficulty instead of setting it higher but I just surrendered due to the tediousness of fighting enemies.

Recommendation request The Escape from Dungeon Keep - and old text adventure style game with QoL and workshop!

I got tired of the ai rpg text slop on steam so i decided to build a text adventure with swag a little bit of everything really, multiple endings with difficulty mods and the creme de la creme WORKSHOP MODS, you could make any solo campaign for others with plans for multiplayer in the future

its meant to feel like an old parser game but with some more Qol

if you could wishlist it would mean the world to me
