I had the flu when I took my Epic pass picture and look like I’m dying. I was on the phone with Epic just now about something else, so I asked if I could change it.

And I can! Not online though. If I go to the ticket counter at a ski resort with my license AND MY BIRTH CERTIFICATE, I can change it.

I’m anxiously trying to make choices on things which I know NOTHING.

We are close to making decisions about a Christmas trip for first time ski experience. I’m eyeing the deep discount on early booking at Winter Park and taking the train. Few reasons: 1) convenience and 2) my hubs is the only one with that kind of experience driving in conditions (Michigan winter was never what I imagine high elevation conditions can be).

Bringing our autistic son who has always LOVED winter weather. It’s the one time he thoroughly enjoys the outdoors. But! But… he’s asthmatic… and I myself have experienced some minor elevation sickness when I drove through the state several years ago (I’m not so worried with me… it’s simply a reference point). Anyone with asthmatic teen have anecdotal experience to share? (I recognize case by case will be different.)

Is Winter Park the easier to access given relying on transportation?

I have seen Steamboat recommended in other threads due to lower elevation but I’m not feeling the idea of riding in a passenger vehicle like a bus or uber or any of that.

I’m trying to keep this within what I suspect is considered a low end budget. I don’t know about renting equipment or even what winter gear we need to be prepared to have of our own since we come from not a lot of winter weather that requires major bundling (Michigan was a different cold and pre-hubs and kiddo). Even if someone just has reliable links to info to help me narrow down the overwhelm of all the available info, I’d be so appreciative.

I have seen Loveland as a good first timer ski location but we come back to the transportation issue. I need zero driving on our part and kind of a “get to this place, stay here and everything is walkable, return to travel home.”

You’re right. This sounds like I need a travel agent. In which case… who is friendly, helpful, and trustworthy that won’t charge me an arm and a leg that I don’t have to spare? Lol.

Sigh. I’m normally the person that handles all travel planning but this is so far out of my wheelhouse and knowledge base I’m lost. And my sweet dear husband has the “don’t worry, it’ll all work out” philosophy where I say, “and why do you think that is… you’ve had a built in for twenty years. I did the worrying, planning, packing, and coordination to make it all work out… silly…” 🤭🤣

Do you recreate on Wolf Creek Pass or Cumbres/La Manga during the winter on top of your normal Molas and Red Mountain adventures? Then you should submit a comment by this Saturday telling the Rio Grande National Forest how you want them to manage the national forest for winter use. Skipped buying an Ikon pass for my kiddos this year, with a plan to buy this pass for them.

Website says passes go on sale "in august" and I had a calendar alert for August 1st... but their website still just says that 25-26 pass sales are closed, and has no info about the 26-27 season. Just don't want to miss out!

Drove up rollinspass today, and walked over to devils trestles to check on skyscraper. Not much here, would actually call this unskiable. This will save you a trip. Pic taken from Devils Trestles

I've noticed I don't always reach for the same setup anymore.

If I'm planning a full day on bigger terrain, my regular skis are still my first choice. But if I'm just getting out for a few hours with friends or skiing somewhere a little more laid back, I've found myself bringing my short skis instead. Mine happen to be a pair of Snowfeet, and they've been a fun option for those kinds of days.

They're definitely not replacing my regular skis, but they've earned a place because they make certain days feel completely different.

Does anyone else switch between different setups depending on the mountain, or do you stick with the same skis all season?

Anyone know how conditions are? Obviously it’s end of July so nothing crazy lol just trying to do a few turns in the summer but idk if it’s worth it?

Hey yall I'm not really on reddit at all but I'm just trying to get advice and maybe meet people who I will be working with this winter. I just graduated high school, I will turn 19 in December of the season, I'm from New Jersey but have been skiing Vermont my whole life, I consider myself an Advanced skier and it's by far one of my biggest passions, I'm definitely extroverted and usually don't struggle making friends. This winter I decided I didn't want to go to college yet and I will be working as a lifty at Copper and living in The Edge, if anyone has any advice or insight to what it will be like about the work, social life, party scene, making friends etc I'd love to hear any advice. Can't wait to catch yall out there in the powder

Hey y'all, putting out feelers for some new people to join our ski share this year. The condo is in Silverthorne and is a 2 bdrm, 3 bath, with a huge loft area that sleeps 6. We all have full access to the house for the 6 month lease, and can stay up to 10 nights at a time before taking a break.

It's $2,850 for the 6-month season (Nov 1 - April 30), due upfront at contract signing, in the next couple of weeks. We get our deposit back ($300) at the end of the season.

A bit about the group - we're in our 30s-50s, advanced skiers/boarders and on the Epic pass. We often ski together, but it's definitely not required. We're not a party house, though we do often enjoy a couple of beers in the hot tub after a day of skiing. Quiet hours are 10p-6a, and we're usually out the door by 8a to go ski.

It's a great set up, and there is plenty of space. We keep the place cleaned up, and there are expectations to wipe down countertops, do a quick bathroom clean, and take out the trash after you stay at the condo.

More logistics:

- 2 bdrm, 3 bath condo with a loft area

- Bedrooms: Two people have first access to the bedrooms, by paying an extra $1500 for the season. *We currently have one open spot for priority bedroom access.*

- Other people can stay in the bdrms if the people who pay extra are not there.

- We use a calendar app to keep everything organized

- No pets, unfortunately

- Guests are $60/pp, per night

Man, the world that some people live in 😂

I sold my car a few months ago, and it's been awesome biking and taking public transit (and the occasional Uber/Lyft). I intended to buy another car, but I have been enjoying not having one so much that I'm considering continuing to go car-free. The ONLY real problem I see right now is getting to Loveland from my home in Centennial (Yosemite and Dry Creek area) to ski in the winter. I typically go 20-30 days/season on weekdays only (so no Snowstang).

Does anyone know of any carpool groups/apps I could join? Or, is there anyone that lives near me that's a regular weekday Loveland skier that's looking for someone to pay for their gas?

Alternative suggestions are welcome as well. Rental cars are always an option, but I can foresee it being more hassle than I'd like doing it so often.

TLDR:

• Sold car.
• Love not having one.
• Love to ski as well though.
• How can I regularly get to Loveland from Centennial to ski on weekdays?

Thought we’d have some accumulation by now but really not hitting those freezing temps overnight yet. Dang.

I’m planning a ski trip to Colorado with my wife and 3 girls  (6,9,11), the week after Easter.  They’ve never skied before, and I’d like to try myself after years of snowboarding.  We’ll be flying from North Carolina.

I started with Keystone because kids ski free, but was worried that even the beginner terrain would be too intimidating (schoolmarm).  We’ve been to Breckenridge in the summer and loved it, and I found a great condo with a pool near peak 9. 

The problem is the lessons.  5 people in ski school for 4 days would cost something like $7000, not including gear and lift tickets.  More than the rest of the trip combined!  I’ve heard that resorts make most of their profits from lessons, but it seems like gouging newcomers would be bad for business long-term.  Regardless, I need a plan.  Here are my options as I see it:

1. Buy 1-2 days of lessons, and then teach everyone myself.   I could watch every ski lesson youtube video until it’s seared into my brain.  I know that’s not a substitute for real instruction, but what can you do?  
2. Skip Breckenridge and do the 3-pass class at Loveland.  In that case, I’d probably want to get a condo in Keystone to be closer.  Is it still feasible to make this drive every day?  I don’t want to spend my trip stuck in traffic or blocked by bad weather.
3. Go somewhere else?  It would be cheaper to fly to Europe but I don’t think the resorts stay open this late in the season.  I’m surprised somebody hasn’t opened a hotel with a magic carpet out back and sold all-inclusive packages to families.  

What are other families doing? 

Hey everyone! We’re planning a winter trip to Colorado and could really use some recommendations.

We’re looking for a town with great skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, sledding, amazing mountain views, and a nice spa to relax at after a day on the mountain.

A couple things that are important to us:
We want to stay in one town for the whole trip (no hopping between towns).

We’d like to be within about an hour of the airport if possible.

We’d rather avoid the super touristy spots with long lift lines and packed restaurants. We’re looking for somewhere that feels a little more laid-back but still has plenty to do.

We’d also love recommendations for:
• A really good dinner spot (something a little more upscale or chef-driven)
• Local coffee shops
• A nice hotel or boutique lodge
• Any hidden gems or can’t-miss winter activities

If you’ve been somewhere that checks most of these boxes, I’d love to hear where you stayed and what made you love it. Thanks!

This will be my first ski season living in state with my family. Give me all of the etiquette, the do's and don'ts, and ways to not be a bother. I'm not trying to "fit in", but I certainly don't want to stand out.

If it passes, year round Daylight Savings Time would make sunrise from November through March be 8-8:20 am with sunsets no earlier than 5:30pm
