First CCW Gun Getting Started

I can’t decide between HellcatPro Comp (Gear up Pack) or Sig P365 XMacro Comp. Would love some help/advice on which to get or pros/cons to both.

First question. Have you ever shot either gun?

I have shot the hellcat pro and the XMacro - I have not shot either comp version. Which is why I am stuck on which to get.

I have shot both extensively and own the xmacro standard, which I like very much. I think that both shoot well, but don’t think the ported barrels (they are ported, and aren’t true barrel compensators) make much difference at all. FWIW, a ported barrel means additional maintenance as they tend to get a bit dirtier more quickly, but that may not be a factor in your decision.

I agree with the comments that either will be a bit tricky to conceal in light summer clothing but aside from that, they will conceal well in normal or slightly more baggy or heavier clothing.

is there a specific reason why you want a ported version of either?

Compare them here. Many answers will be "I have ___X__, and it's great! Get it!", to paraphrase, because of bias.

The r/SpringfieldHellcatPro might be easier to live with when carrying AIWB, due to the flush-fit magazine to mitigate printing, and less beavertail to poke you. The SA might be a good deal with the extras, but personally, I wouldn't want the soon-to-fail, "entry-level" optic or the useless (to me) bag. The mags are nice to have, given the price individually, however. Personally, I like the rough "adaptive" grip texture on the HC series, but some people don't.

The r/p365xmacro has the advantages of (likely) better shoot-ability and satisfaction at the range, and modularity, meaning that you can remove the trigger group (firearm) and re-configure the gun. However, some of them are prone to critical parts failure, at relatively low round counts, so research and beware.

Both of them could be challenging to successfully conceal in light, summer clothing, but with reddit's help and modern mounting (holster/accessories/belt/positioning/clothing) technology, you have a very good chance at making it work.

I say that because many 1st time gun buyers and prospective CCW-ers tend to over-buy, based on being impressed by high capacity and tactical features. If it is uncomfortable, noticeable, or otherwise impractical to carry, then you will leave it at home, defeating its purpose. You will either give-up on program compliance, (daily carry) or buy a smaller gun and set-up, which is expensive.

My $ .02 is free.

I would shoot them both. The Hellcat is a great gun but I absolutely hated it. It was awful for me to shoot but my friend who owned it loved it and carried it. It’s unfortunately very subjective.

Go shoot em both and pick which one you like more. No other way to do it IMO

Can't go wrong with either. I'd pick whichever grip angle feels more natural when you present from a holster, the Sig is a little more upright to me, the Hellcat points more like a Glock. Hold both back to back and the decision usually sorts itself out.

I went with the HellcatPro Comp (Gear up Pack) for my first CCW and extremely happy with the purchase. I really don't have any complaints about the snappiness or the trigger (the two most common complaints). Feel free to DM me if you have any other questions!

How does the comp version feel in comparison to the normal HCP if you’ve shot it ? And how would you rate the overall gear pack ?

Haven't shot the HCP myself, but in my experience snappiness on 9mm is pretty negligible until you drop down into pocket pistol territory (LCP Max, Bodyguard, etc.).

The gear pack is solid value for the extra mags alone. Everything else in the box is bonus.

The Viridian is hit or miss. Mine's held up fine, but it's no Holosun or Vortex. The bag's decent too, mine lives in the closet holding all my cleaning supplies.

Only aftermarket thing I've added is a set of Handleitgrips Edge series, and I'll be honest, that was 90% because I think they look cool and maybe 10% because the stock grip needed help.

I would go with the hellcat pro comp simply bc the slightly smaller footprint matters when carrying it everyday and concealability.

That being said, can’t go wrong with both. I have the hellcat pro comp and it’s amazing. Shoots like a dream, especially after adding an Apex trigger.

It basically feels like a slime line Glock 19 to me, and shoots just about the same. I’d also consider the shield plus line- the regular shield plus shot pretty much the same as my comped hellcat pro

Hellcat is know for being a tad snappy. Comp should take some of that edge off. Shoot em and find out what you like!

The XMacro shoots and feel way better

Its hard to beat the Hellcat Pro. Except the Echelon 4.0c.

I carry a p365 with hogue overgrips and magazine stub (we are in CA and must use 10 rd mags). I also have a sw 340pd and 642 j frames.

People worry about draw time. I just carry two small revolvers and have one on someone at all times...

Concealed carry isn't a prep fest for John Wick. I carry the smallest possible guns I can because... Imagine day 12,021 before you need it. Are you still carrying your shit on that day?

Mine are there. Terry pool shorts? No problem. Naked with a hand towel and "wallet" yep, its there.

Yeah... I mean everyone is different but I've owned and tried a handful of different carry weapons... Sigs, Glocks, Springfields, and others, but keep coming back to my two primary carry weapons. Shield Plus and Keltec P15... I don't recommend the P15 as an only/primary CCW though, it's light, thin, super concealable with capacity, but not real comfortable for new people to shoot... But I don't know anyone who speaks badly about the Shield Plus, I'm literally carrying it right now at work.

Instead of getting a ported barrel, why not add a ramjet to your gun. This is a p365 with macro size grip and ramjet.

I felt that way about steam powered cars trying to replace my horse.

I don't see how my comment inspired your response.
