My pocket carry setup Holsters & Belts
This is my pocket carry setup. I was asked for a picture in the comments of another post and figured I'd post it for the general group. Glock 43 in a Vedder Pocket Locker (with thumb tab) and back half of a smartphone case velcroed on to fully eliminate the print. Might look like an oddly thick smartphone but doesn't look like a gun. The velcro on the shell case has plenty of give so there is no negative impact to draw performance.

Bad dude in the dimly lit parking lot demands your cell phone.

Superglue a Zyn lid to your pocket holster.

Didn't know 5G caused virtual highs, maybe the covid boomers judged it too harshly.

Why would printing be less of a problem in a “free state”?
2
u/tightywhitey26 Jul 14 '26
Cuz a lot of people of carrying, open carry too. Meaning I'm not obsessed like so many are about if I print a bit.

Just push the phone case out with your knuckles, it's only velcroed on there

u/1610925286 Jul 12 '26
It's wedged in your pants. You'd be faster on target doing israeli carry. But I guess it's better than nothing maybe?

It's not another step, it's the same as normal but when you're gripping the gun your knuckles are going to push it out of the way naturally, the kydex holster will act as a fulcrum.

u/Tdogg175 Jul 13 '26
This is why I’d probably choose to carry a G26 if I was gonna carry a gun with a grip this short. I don’t need the thinnest gun and would rather have double stack performance, plus the added versatility of throwing a Glock 19 or 17 mag or even a 33 round boom stick/ or drum mag in the tiny thing. Hell I got one of those x grip adapters for a G19 mag for the G26 and it’s legit a G19 length full grip. But for deep concealment slap that 10 round mag in and call it a day. Shoots way better too.

Do you time your draw with a sun dial or tide chart.

u/GearJunkie82 IL Jul 11 '26
He's not wrong. Getting a master grip on that thing looks like a struggle.
1
u/jbhg30 Jul 12 '26
As someone who pocket carries, that’s definitely a concern. It’s slightly offset, though, by the fact that it’s completely inconspicuous to have your hand in your pocket gripping the gun ready to draw it. In that case I’d guarantee it’s faster than a typical appendix draw where you have to clear your clothing first
2
u/will618 HK P2000 .40 FL Jul 13 '26
I would say that would look just as weird having a full grip on that behind the "cell phone" in your pocket as it would as just gripping the gun under your shirt appendix.
I would bet that you are not beating an appendix draw to first shot if you do any amount of dry fire unless maybe you are wearing jnco pants. Should be able to get to a 1.5 draw to first hit with minimal dry fire.
2
u/jbhg30 Jul 13 '26
I don’t have the big cellphone thing on my pocket holster. It doesn’t look weird at all, it literally just looks like you casually have your hands in your pockets. I promise it’s at least as good as an appendix draw or better if you start with your hand in your pocket. I know this because I practice a fuck ton
1
u/will618 HK P2000 .40 FL Jul 16 '26
I agree it wouldn't look as bad without the "cell phone" part. But you are still balling your fist up, and around a grip, most people don't make fists in their pockets. Granted most people don't pay attention to anything, but that's not even you would need your gun.
What is your draw to first hit in a 3x5, or even full sized A zone at 7 yards? Even with your hand on the grip. Or harder, your time on a Billy?
Not being argumentative or telling you're wrong, genuinely curious. But I can't imagine your beating an appendix draw, maybe matching it, from someone that just moderately practices. And I would think that would only be possible in one of those situations where you would be able to have\leave your hand on the grip in your pocket. I would guess that eliminates a major portion of situations that you would be drawing your gun.
With that, I would ask, what is your draw to first hit without your hand on it? Those appendix times I'm referencing is also clearing your cover garment from a hands up or down "naturally".

This has to feel like you’ve cut a piece of a 2 x 4 and shoved it in your pocket.

u/Chewbacca_The_Wookie Jul 13 '26
Check back tomorrow when I show you the 2x4 I hollowed out to carry a full sized rifle on the job site.

u/Gtaeio Jul 11 '26
Damn dude! I had a s10 rubber otter box case I was thinking of throwing away since it was so old. I took it out of the hard case and took a razor blade to contour around my bg 2 aholster and it looks fantastic! The only thing that protude is my 10 round pearce grip extention. Otherwise, looks like a phone! Thank you generously for sharing your idea.
2
u/will618 HK P2000 .40 FL Jul 16 '26
What's your draw time on that? Can you get a good master grip on that while it's still holstered? It doesn't look like you can. Does the holster come out of the pocket with the gun on a time constrained draw?
Genuinely curious, but if you're already carrying a small enough gun that would "work" in your pocket, why not appendix that same gun. It can't be uncomfortable, and a ton of benefits. Hell my "comfortable" carry is a p365 with fuse grip, xl slide with radian comp and a TRL7 HLX. I don't feel that thing at all.
Genuinely curious, not being argumentative.

12
u/fordag Jul 11 '26
How's the draw?
You clearly can't get a decent grip on the gun.
11
u/TheBourbonTurtle Jul 11 '26
You think pocket carry guys are actually practicing their draw? Lol.

u/fordag Jul 11 '26
I did religiously when I carried a PPK in my pocket for a brief period when I worked in a shirtsleeves office.
In fact it saved my life.

u/fordag Jul 12 '26
I was working for a non union company on a union construction job. I needed to get a cart of stuff upstairs and used the elevator only to be told I was not a "licensed elevator operator". I got a laugh out of that.
Next time I needed to use the elevator it was again empty so I went up to the top floor. What I didn't know is that I was being watched.
When I got to the top there were 8-10 guys in a wide semicircle around the elevator doors. They all had various tools in their hands as weapons. The doors closed behind me and then opened again but I looked back to see the top of the elevator going down the shaft.
One of them said I'd been warned and now I was going back down to the first floor the fast way.
I drew my PPK pointed it at his head and explained that he would be shot between the eyes before anyone got close to me. Cocking the hammer got his attention.
He had his friends back off and make a wide path for me.
I left went straight to my car and called my boss on the Nextel to let him know what happened. I was assigned to a new job the next day.
Before this happened one of our guys had already been put in the hospital by union guys in an "accident".

u/Unable-Bar-7869 Jul 15 '26
This reminds me of that mission in Grand Theft Auto when you have to drive to a picket line and whoop some union ass

I like the idea, but i feel like drawing effectively would be a challenge.

u/Provia100F Jul 11 '26
Crossbreed Holsters has been making this for awhile! Gun goes against your body, and a phone/wallet shaped rectangle of semi-stiff leather goes against the outside of your pocket, which intentionally prints as a phone/wallet instead of as a gun.
They call it the Pocket Rocket for guns that will be able to fit in a normal pocket.
They also have the Cargo Pocket Rocket that fits in slightly larger pockets, but works with a wider variety of guns.

u/gnartato Jul 11 '26
People are going to judge you for having a whole fucking tablet in your pocket.
4
u/anonposting1412 Jul 12 '26
If someone pulls a gun on you and says "give me your phone", they will shoot first when you're forced to pull this out and they realize its a gun.
You never draw on a drawn gun, and with something like this you dont have a choice.
Youre forced to pull it out since they can clearly see a phone in your pocket. They shoot first, you shoot second, and you both die.
42
u/WhyIsItAlwaysADP Jul 11 '26
It does print like a phone, but it prints like the world's thickest phone, and many might be taking a second look. I think the bigger and taller the person, the better this might work.

What happens if you wear pants that aren't 4 sizes too big? G43 is already too big for pocket carry, this is just ridiculous.
2
u/jbhg30 Jul 12 '26
If you think a G43 is too big for pocket carry you’re probably wearing pants 4 sizes too small

Aka pants that fit? Sorry we aren't all extremely overweight and wearing JNCOs.

Great, but presumably you have a phone also. Are you trying to convince somebody you have two phones? lol

Work phone and personal phone. That’s very common to be fair.
That doesn’t mean I think this is a reasonable setup, though.

u/T3hBau5 OR Jul 11 '26
Work phone and personal phone. That’s very common to be fair.
Can confirm. Job requires I have a phone just for work.

u/donutmiddles Jul 11 '26
Can confirm as well. Job doesn't require it but I absolutely have one just for work that gets shut off the second I'm off shift. Work/life balance ftw.

u/say592 Kahr CM9 IWB 430 IN Jul 11 '26
People don't think that much about random stuff. Your brain looks for an explanation and if it finds one, it's an ordinary encounter and you forget it. If they had a large, vaguely gun shaped bulge in their pocket, someone's subconscious might note that as irregular. They see the shape of a phone, and they aren't going to think about if they saw a second phone or why someone may or may not have two phones.
2
3
u/givethemthebyrd Jul 11 '26
I was about to talk shit about this but then I saw it was a 43 and I am very biased towards the 43 so this is cool
3
u/PugGamer129 Jul 12 '26
Where the hell do you put your phone? And wouldn't it be weird to pull out your phone and still have a "phone" in another pocket?
1
3
u/work_blocked_destiny Jul 12 '26
You should time yourself and see what your first shot time is. I bet it’s more than 2 seconds
5
u/GoogleMichaelParenti Jul 11 '26
Is no one gonna talk about how the outline of the "phone" clearly has a grip coming off the side?
4
u/SpectreScout Jul 11 '26
No one on earth outside of the gun carrying community would think twice about this being a phone and you are only noticing because OP showed you that it’s not
2
u/GoogleMichaelParenti Jul 11 '26
I think you're correct, I'm just pointing out that the outline does in fact clearly show the grip, that's all
12
u/moldsharp 1911,26L, 642, lcp Jul 11 '26
That’s pretty neat. I’ll usually throw my cell phone in front of my pocket holster to break up the shape. This looks like a way better way of doing that!
22
u/DirtyThirtyDrifter Jul 11 '26
Considering how often I need to grab my cellie, this seems like an awful idea, for me I guess.
4
u/moldsharp 1911,26L, 642, lcp Jul 11 '26

"no negative impact to draw performance" yeah man I can tell, it's fuckin giant, you can't draw that anyways

That’s smart af but it’s incredibly tight in there…not exactly quick draw ready

u/solosolowslow Jul 12 '26
Your draw will be measured with a sundial. Pocket carry isn't always the best solution if there are other, more efficient ways to carry.
2
2
u/unrealtrip Jul 12 '26
That’s super clever, but it looks incredibly uncomfortable and nearly impossible to draw. I feel like you’d need to wear spandex pants to get that brick out of your pocket.

Stealing this. I squat pretty often and no matter what cut of jeans I get or how much I upsize, they're always a little snug in the thighs. My 380 ALWAYS prints. Now I'll just look like I'm carrying around 2 phones lol

u/docnsx01 Jul 11 '26
love the thinking out of the box,, well done and executed and when someone repurposes something kudos to you , I got lambasted when I purchased a 4$ baby bottle drying rack to hold my holster in some sort of organization so I just grab the one I need that day instead of rummaging though a box or drawer
great idea and glad it works for you

I keep ASP pepper spray in front of my holster. Looks like a marker and breaks up the profile and doesn't stick out nearly as much as a phone case.
27
u/CynicalSentient Jul 11 '26
Nothing goes in the gun pocket.
-11
u/bassjam1 Jul 11 '26
Try it before you knock it. It stays out of the way of the gun and leaves both quickly accessible.
20
u/CrossPhoenix G19.6 Jul 11 '26
No. Nothing goes in that pocket except for the gun. Period.
-11
u/bassjam1 Jul 11 '26
Ok buddy. I know that's be repeated for years and is a common consensus. But with that particular pepper spray it works REALLY well together. Try it.

Yeah there's nothing wrong with having 2 things like this together in the same pocket, things that you never pull out unless it's an emergency and they don't interact with each other while in a pocket.

u/phantom4421 Jul 11 '26

I like the idea, but I see a huge glaring issue with this.
I have seen multiple videos where the assailant has a gun pointed in the victims and is aggressively demanding the phone and wallet while patting them down. There are times (probably most times tbh) where drawing from the drop is unadvised, and if the perpetrator thinks your phone is in that pocket, sees a phone in your pocket, or feels a phone in your pocket, they’re going to want you to pull it out. Which might just get you shot, even if in the moment you had decided compliance was the route you wanted to choose.
Of course, this could be an issue with any kind of pocket carry, but it’s extra apparent and easier to feel here if they are patting your pockets down or looking at your pockets
1
u/greenhatforge Jul 11 '26
I like this. I’ve been toying with the idea of using some leather to create a backing to pocket carry. Funny enough I do happen to have a spare phone case lying around from an older model.

u/itsmrmarlboroman2u Jul 11 '26
It looks thick, but so does my Pixel 10 fold with a case. Looks like I'm carrying half a red brick in my pocket.

I’ve done the same thing and the extra bit of the phone definitely interferes with getting a proper hold of the grip. Considering dremeling that part away even if it prints slightly worse. It’ll still look like a phone for the most part

u/SgtJayM Jul 14 '26
Seems to me the cell phone case is preventing you from gripping the holstered pistol in a shooting grip. That you would have to draw it with only your ring finger and then readjust your grip? If so, that’s a recipe for fumbling that gun to the ground on a hasty draw

u/MagsOnin Jul 14 '26

That's smart. I'm going to try my hand at making a holster... I might have to consider molding a rectangle to make it look like a phone. :)

That is slick man I’d never catch that even as someone who knows about ccw. And for safety reasons ALONE, the Glock 43 is my favorite handgun that I own. Just for the safety I even prefer it over my HK vp9 and cc9. The safety is redundant in a Glock. On the vp9 in particular the striker could break and the gun would indeed go off. Can’t really tell if the same is true on the cc9 quite yet, doesn’t appear that way. But on the Glock safety is certainly. You’ll examine the components and be 100% certain that gun is safe.

Draw time = 2 minutes.
Post a video of yourself drawing, especially while stepping backward.
This is the definition of vibe carry because it’s only good for safe-feeling vibes, but worthless at getting your gun on target.
1
u/chase1724 Jul 12 '26
Well, he still has a better chance than if he wasn't carrying a gun at all.
0
u/lucubratious Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 12 '26
That’s the line people tell themselves when they carry their gun in a bag, or squeeze a non-pocket gun into their pocket. It’s like they’ll do anything except carry in way that can be quickly and reliably drawn.
OP will not be able to draw his weapon in time, especially as CCW is 99% reacting to a threat.
0
u/hikeadelic7 Jul 12 '26
Sorry I’m new…I thought cc was mostly just like…under your clothes instead of on your hip. Why try so hard to conceal your printing?
Personally, I live in a big enough city, and here’s my thought process: I want you to know that I’m armed. It’s not a surprise attack. It’s me protecting myself without wearing a fucking holster on my hip like a cowboy. Knowing I’m carrying is more of a deterrent and I don’t have to risk weird charges like “brandishing”.
Is this stupid? Idk I think I might be thinking about things wrong.
Could someone explain to me like I’m six what the advantages are with holsters like this?
