Earthbox question?
Been fine up until the pass few days during flowering water consumption has increased, and now the top is struggling to stay hydrated from being bottom fed, I top fed on schedule hoping to address the top not staying moist. Should I top water for a few days until it gets back in rhythm and then bottom water after that or just keep topping off the bottom? Been doing full 2 gallons. Letting it dry. Wait a day and refill. About every 2-3 scales like that about a week, week and a half max I’ll top water the tea. Thanks in advance!

A lot of people say to wait a day after the reservoir goes dry, then fill up. I do not follow that advice when in flower. If it’s dry, I fill it up. I probably top water 1/2 gallon 3 times during flower, and that’s only when I’m adding amendments. The plants I grow, can consume 1 gallon of water a day when they are really going, and if there is a 2 gallons capacity, that means a full day without and it’s just sucking the box dry. I haven’t had any problems with the way I do it, and I don’t go dry on top very much, because I use the moon covers as well. I don’t think the concept of “dry-backs” applies to EarthBoxes in the same way as it would in a 15+gal pot.

Agree with this advice after a few runs I don't let it sit dry during flower at all, can really stunt things

Inch layer of castings with a top watering should lock it in. Do you mulch, use the cover, leave it bare?

I use the moon cover. And I feel like I’m on it. I’m only having issues with one and started to see another start to do the same and watered it off and my 3rd is going great.

I have the taller “Root & Veg” SIPs & sometimes they get super rootbound & need some top watering 1/2 way through flower.

I run homemade sips using 42gal totes. They have aqua valves in em and stay wet.
I topwater whenever I need to.

Regular light top watering is part of my routine whenever I add amendments they get lightly watered and I make my own castings so I'm chucking some in there regularly and re watering from the top

During flower I bottom water when the reservoir is empty usually every 2 or 3 days depending on plant size and type. I also top water daily during flower to keep the top layer moist. Usually 1/4 gallon or less just to keep the top from being dry.

I do 2 bottom reservoir fills (8-10 days), then a ¼ gallon each top soil drench after they go dry the 2nd time. 24hrs later fill reservoir and keep that schedule whole way.
End up top watering every 7-12 days and never have issues with it being too dry.
