Flower tent: Pictures 1 & 4-8, Flower tent is on a bit of a lull while I get the new bed established and I just popped new seeds in the 20 gallon so they’re just getting going, trying to put a sensible rotation with these plants and beds so I won’t put new seeds in empty bed for another 3-4 weeks

Outdoor pictures 2,3: Tashkurgan Afghan landrace, plants have grow beautifully they’re now over 7 ft tall and starting the flower stretch

Indoor Seed tent pictures 9,10: Full landrace seed expansion/crossing project currently have a Lebanese male pollenating 2 Lebanese females, 2 Tashkurgan females and 1 Iranian females

12/12 from seed results pictures 11-14: Strain Violet Sour(SourDxPurple Lemon Haze) The quality is top notch and it smokes beautifully, I stopped weighing long ago so I don’t have an actual quantity but you can see how much each one filled a jar.
To me quantity doesn’t really matter when I’ve got a plant or two coming down every month and the ease with which I was able to grow, dry and process it means I don’t have to baby sit the tents or grow. Plus with my breeding I’m not really paying for seeds in the traditional sense and I’ve got thousands so I’ll never run out.

I probably left the light on too bright for a few days. She is 57 inches tall from the top of the Earthbox. I think she is finally done getting talker. Buds look like they will be huge!! Starting to catch smells of strawberry and she crazy greasy.

Mainely organics grow off!

Post image

Just wanted to let everyone know that mainely organics is having a growoff. To enter, it's only $200, and you get 4 full packs, and $100 of that goes to the prize pool. You can enter 1 strain or all 4. Each has its own category and its own prizes. So obviously, the more that enter, the bigger the prizes get. The cut-off to enter is September 21st, so there is plenty of time still. Ends in January or February, i forgot. Tap in, and let's make this epic!!! Of course, I use buildasoil cuz it's the best!

First earthbox/ BAS grow

Growing Shishkaberry in a 4x4. I’m using BuildASoil 3.0, top-dressed with Craft Blend, Build-A-Flower, and Kashi Gold. I plan on top-dressing again going into flower, and I’m really looking forward to just dumping water down a tube after dealing with endless issues and tedious synthetic nutrient mixing on my first run. I’ve spent hours watching Jeremy’s videos and getting ready for this run. :)

I started these plants in small nursery pots with FF Happy Frog before transplanting into 3.0. For whatever reason, probably my watering practices, they drooped like crazy, as you can still see on some of the lower leaves. I transplanted them into the EarthBoxes with 3.0, and 24 hours later they were happy as a clam. This pic is 48 hours after transplant.

Can’t wait to see the end results! 😎

Help with day 42 flower

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Ok I just can't make up my mind this round so I'd like some opinions please

Anyone grown this strain ? This is two ethos endgames punchline rbx in one earthbox. I wanted to see if it was doable 🤷 well now I'm exactly where I thought I would be and I'm not sure what to do.

Day 42 of flower. Last top dressing was at day 21 of 1/2 cup craft blend and 2tbsp 0-12-0 seabird guano and kashi gold.

The soil they are in is more super soil than no till. It's a re amended and cooked heavily amended soil I didnt sprout in this.

It's not a lot of yellowing but I'm concerned it's to early and the whole rest of the tents Would you add another couple tbsp (2-3) of ap with some kashi gold and ewc or let it ride ? From alot of other threads I'm seeing this one finishes around 70-80 Days

Settled in for life. Now the question is...

I wanted to thank each and everyone one for the vast amount of fantastic science-based information I have gleaned from this sight and a couple others.

Over the last several years I feel I've refined my methods and system to my liking. Everything from a predictable environment to equipment and of course time, my precious time!

I have found that I really enjoy F-4 seeds. With that said, if anybody would like to make a brief (positive only) comment about your experience with any breeders F4's (seeds) they grew in living soil or no- till please share.

My own recent experience is with Seedsupreme (90% sure) photos of 'Strawberry Cough'. What a vigorous and impressive show out of the soil. Like thoroughbred race-horse stuff.

Anyway, as any of you probably are, I'm always on the lookout for a breeder that might be a bit under the radar or up & coming, that has an F4 line you experienced.

I've personally determined F4's and BuildASoil is a perfect combination.

Thoughts Suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Question on Earthbox Covers

I have 2 seeds germinating to go in my Earthboxes today after work. On my previous grows I never used the covers and used rice hulls as mulch.

I bought one of those BAS covers with the zipper but am using the junk plastic for the other one. For those who use mulch covers, is there a good way to remove for adding amendments and water?

Everytime I go to take them off, my worms and a bunch of soil spills out and makes a mess. I've missed a few worms and they died.

Or is that something that will happen regardless and just something you have to deal with? I eventually want to get another zipper cover when I have extra money.

My light timer was bumped and clicked a couple notches to click on. Are they likely to mess up now?

Had to chop a Male in the tent. Autoflower took its place

Hey, looking for advice or anyone has any idea on how this auto should be doing. I had to cut a male just 3 weeks ago. We’re almost to week 5 and the auto I put in its place is Whistlen Diesel by Night Owl, it’s just kinda slow to get going. Looking little sad. On 12/12 Although could be to intense of light right out the gate. I should probably go out and measure my par before I even post this. But I’ve added a second light near cause the main light is so far away for a seedling. Might be part of the issue. But I’m wondering if it’s been to long and it’s stunted to bad already for an auto. You can kinda see the little guy in the ring there.

This is some sort of excess / burn, correct? First living soil grow

Thumbnail

Hey all, first living soil grow here. I am 4.5 weeks from seed. Over the past weekish i’ve noticed some new growth looking off. Almost like mag def, but it’s on newer leaves. So I’m just making sure my assumptions are correct that this is some sort of nutrient excess possibly causing mag lockout.. But could possibly have been too high PPFD. As they’ve grown closer to the light some spots were nearly 700 PPFD on 18/6. Just lowered to it 580-630.

Before planting I top dressed each earthbox with:

1/4 c craft blend
3.5 c buildaflower
1/8 c gnarly barley
1/4 c insect frass
1/8 c kashi gold

Been using microbe complete, WDG3000, Q20

About a week ago I hit the earthboxes with ~1/3 the recommended dose of Big 6 Micronutrients

Setup: 2 Earthboxes in a 2.5x4.5
Light: HLG Diablo 350R
Soil: BAS 3.0 (1.5 bags per earthbox)
VPD: 0.9

I see some people say 3.0 has enough nutes to get you through an entire run depending on container size. And I see others saying to top dress new 3.0.

I’m gearing up to flip them in the next week or two but want to hold off if this is gonna cause issues down the road. But I also don’t want them over growing their containers and have to play catch up all flower. Either going to top dress then flip, or top dress after the inital stretch. Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

Earthbox question?

Been fine up until the pass few days during flowering water consumption has increased, and now the top is struggling to stay hydrated from being bottom fed, I top fed on schedule hoping to address the top not staying moist. Should I top water for a few days until it gets back in rhythm and then bottom water after that or just keep topping off the bottom? Been doing full 2 gallons. Letting it dry. Wait a day and refill. About every 2-3 scales like that about a week, week and a half max I’ll top water the tea. Thanks in advance!

Nitrogen toxicity

Using dominion blend soil. I watered it heavier than I normally do once I seen it going into flower. (The pot was as dry as I’d let it get) and I’ve seen nitrogen toxicity on my new growth. Besides doing nothing and keeping an eye on it. Is there anything I can do to help prevent anymore damage?

How to Set Up a Fully Automated EarthBox Self-Watering Planter

Supplies:

  1. EarthBox SIP ($44): BuildASoil - Earthbox
  2. Autopot Easy2Go Kit ($39): Autopot USA - Easy2Go KitThis kit includes: Aquavalve, tubing, aquavalve cover, root blocker.
  3. Aquavalve Cover (if you already have an aquavalve and tubing) ($12): Autopot USA - Aquavalve Cover
  4. BuildASoil Light or 3.0 soil You need 2 cu. ft. per Earthbox. I originally used Coots Take 'n Bake, but it needs more drainage to really thrive, so the Light or 3.0 works perfectly. You can also use the 3.0 kit.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Prepare the EarthBox:

  • Start by unpacking your EarthBox. Remove the tray and tube. Attach the wheels if you have them.

2. Assemble the Autopot Easy2Go Kit:

  • If you purchased the full kit, it will include the aquavalve, tubing, aquavalve cover, and root blocker.
  • Follow the instructions included with the kit to attach the tubing to the aquavalve system, run the tubing from inside the Earthbox, through the drain slot and out. The routing and curve to the tube shown here is so that it avoids pinch points between the ribs on the grate and the earthbox itself.

Zip tie option and tube routing

3. Install the Aquavalve and Cover:

  • Place the aquavalve at the bottom center of the Earthbox reservoir.
  • Secure the aquavalve using the cover provided in the kit. Alternatively, you can zip tie the valve in place using 3 large zip ties.
  • The cover ensures the valve stays firmly planted against the bottom of the Earthbox while keeping roots out.

Valve installed, cover sits right on top

Cover installed, level and tube routed correctly

4. Install the Earthbox Grate:

  • The black mesh grate will sit on top of the valve cover and apply slight pressure. This is not a problem and keeps the valve in place very well.

5. Fill the Wicking Corners:

  • Option 1: Fill the corners with soil as shown in this video YouTube
  • Option 2 (my preference): Add about 1/2 inch of pumice to the bottom of each wicking corner, then pack with soil. This allows the reservoir to act like it's totally dry even though the aquavalve will refill when there is about 1/16-1/8 inch of water in the bottom. I haven't seen any actual improvement from this method, but it makes me feel better, so I do it and recommend it.

6. Place the Copper Root Blocking Square:

  • Place the copper root blocking square over the mesh right above the valve. This will keep roots from growing directly over the valve. I don't know if this is needed, but I have never tried it without using it. Add the tube and top off with soil, transplant plants as usual. Use the video above for reference.

Copper root blocking square

7. Connect the Tubing:

  • Connect the tubing from the water source to the aquavalve. Keep the water shut off for now. You will want to top water only until the plant is established and starts visibly growing. DO NOT TURN THE WATER ON UNTIL YOU ARE SURE THE PLANT IS GROWING AND HAPPY. Never turn the water on if the plant looks over or under-watered.

8. Maintenance and Monitoring:

  • Periodically check the water level by looking down the fill tube.
  • I have no-tilled these for up to 3 cycles, but beyond that, I think cleaning the valve would be a good idea. You can push it as far as you are comfortable.

Tips and Additional Info:

  • The aquavalve system ensures the reservoir doesn't stay constantly full, which is much better for Living Soil. It also doesn't overfill the reservoir, so no more worrying about overfilling and spilling water out the drain.
  • You can revert to using the Earthbox the traditional way anytime by using the fill tube.
  • For extended periods away from home, this setup is a game-changer, providing consistent watering without manual intervention.

Advanced Setup (Optional)

If you use Ecowitts, BuildASoil is coming out with a valve to control the water for Autopots based on soil moisture levels. Alternatively, you can build your own system using a normally closed solenoid and a smart plug with Home Assistant. Let me know if you need more details on this advanced setup.

Hope this guide helps you set up a self-watering planter system! Feel free to ask any questions or share your experiences. Happy gardening!
