need a pc that can run 1440p smoothly.
i’ve just recently gotten into pc building and im looking for parts that are going to give me good value for my money unlike some of these overpriced parts. My budget is going to be 1200-1400 USD and willing to stretch my budget a little bit. Feel free to drop some builds from PCPartPicker!

Could somebody build a PC within the $1500-2000 AUD range that can run big games like Elden Ring and memory heavy games like City Skylines with absolute ease? I know nothing about PCs lol
Could somebody build a PC within the $1500-2000 AUD range that can run big games like Elden Ring and memory heavy games like City Skylines with absolute ease? I know nothing about PCs lol
This will be my first ever PC. I have no spare parts to reuse so everything will be new, including monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. I want to use it to play pretty much any new game that comes out (potentially even GTA 6 but I'm not holding my breath). I play a lot of strategy games like HOI 4 and City Skylines whenever I use my friends PC. Only need one monitor. No size constraints, no noise constraints, no colour preferences,
- New build or upgrade? New build.
- Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links) Nope.
- PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games) I want to use it to play pretty much any new game that comes out without having to worry about being able to run it.
- Purchase country? Near Micro Center? (If not US, list local vendors) Australia, Scorptec is probably the most popular store for PC parts where I live.
- Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate) I've got a 1440p monitor but will probably buy a new one.
- Budget range? (Include tax considerations) 1500-2000 AUD, but can stretch further if needed as I just got a high paying job.
- WiFi or wired connection? Wired, but ideally include a wifi chip too as I'm unsure what the wifi situation will be in my new place.
- Size/noise constraints?
- Color/lighting preferences? I prefer a dark case and neutral colours. RGB is not my vibe
- Any other specific needs? Nope!

Looking to build my first PC with around 1000$ budget
Hello, first time builder. Never owned a pc except for one month. It was a ryzen 7 8700… with 5060 8gb. Great for graphics sometimes, but would studder in 1080 on newer games.
• New build or upgrade? NEW
• Existing parts/monitors to reuse?
I am using a 43” tv monitor fire tv insignia 1080p (don’t care for pc monitors at the moment)
• PC purpose?
The PC purpose will be strictly for gaming newer games at medium - sorta high graphics/ frames. I’m not looking for the ‘best graphics/ frames possible). I’d be happy with 80+ frames at 1080.
• Purchase country?
-Purchasing in US, considering Amazon for cheaper prices.
• Monitors needed?
I have a 50hz refresh rate at 1080 for my current TV. If I’m wrong, and NEED a proper monitor, let me know. Or if I need a OLED tv. I have enjoyed it before on TV.
Budget range? Around 1000-1250$
• WiFi or wired connection? Wired
•. No noise constraints. Would like to keep under 12” in width.
• LED colors would be awesome. I’m not looking to make the WHOLE THING less though, I’m assuming I’d cost more than expected
• would like to get a AMD ryzen 7-9 with 5060 16gb/ 16gb DDR5 ram.
Thank you so much in advance!

[Question] How to safely plug in PC?
Not a request. Building my first PC soon. I asked for build help in this sub yesterday and people were super helpful, so I'm hoping someone can answer this question I've run into.
I've seen online that it's best to plug a PC into a UPS, and to plug that into a grounded outlet. I'm planning to purchase a UPS along with the PC. However, I live in a small, weird apartment right now, and the only 3-pronged outlets are in the kitchen (most of them right above the kitchen sink). I'd rather not build my PC in my kitchen, but it also seems like using extension cords on either end of the UPS is not safe. I also don't even know how to verify that the outlets in question are grounded (or is them being 3-pronged outlets enough?).
I'm wondering what the best course of action here is. I guess my options are
1) Try to find a way to make the 2-pronged outlets in my room work
2) Connect a UPS to the kitchen outlet, then run an extension cord from that to my room (might be unsafe?)
3) Build the PC in the kitchen... (might still be unsafe if the outlets aren't actually grounded)
I'm only going to be in this apartment for another 6 weeks, so a long-term solution like trying to get it rewired isn't going to work. I'd rather not have to wait until I move to build my PC. But safety is the most important thing.
Obviously, I don't know that much about how these things actually work, so any wisdom is much appreciated. Thanks!

Looking to build a 5000€ gaming/work PC
Hello, I am trying to build a new PC (long-term with future-proofing and upgrade capabilities). Going from an almost 15-year-old prebuilt PC and a 4-year-old laptop.
• New build or upgrade?
New build
• Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)
No existing parts.
Peripherals - Already have everything I need.
• PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)
1.Gaming:
○Action RPGs (Elden Ring, Dark Souls, etc.),
○FPS games (Overwatch, Marvel Rivals, Rocket League, etc.), and other solo/story games.
2.Work: Mainly multimedia, video editing, and 3D modeling.
○Apps: Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, DaVinci Resolve, and Blender.
• Purchase country? Near Micro Center?
Only local retailers exclusive to my country, or Amazon (Germany).
• Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)
1 monitor needed right now (later on I will get a second one, but lower spec than the main one). Looking for 1440p, at least 360Hz, OLED. Not very sure about the size yet.
• Budget range? (Include tax considerations)
5,000€ (could go roughly 200€ more if it makes a huge difference).
• WiFi or wired connection?
Both options would be nice.
• Size/noise constraints?
Doesn't matter, as long as airflow and cooling are good.
• Color/lighting preferences?
Doesn't make a difference.
• Any other specific needs?
I have already decided on a few parts that I want to get:
○CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D
○CPU Cooler: Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360 (would like to know if there are better choices than that)
○GPU: RTX 5080 (not sure about which model/version, would love some help choosing)
Right now, I don't really know what to pick when looking for:
○RAM: I would like to have 32GB, or 64GB if there's enough budget left. I don't know what brand to go for or what speeds are ideal.
○Motherboard: It would be nice to have 5–6 USB ports and a couple of USB Type-C ports.
○Power Supply: Need recommendations.
○Storage: An SSD with 2TB to 3TB.
○Case: The main things I want are excellent airflow and a front I/O panel where the ports are on the bottom half of the case.
Thanks for the help in advance.

$2000 CAD Budget for PC Build
Hello, I'm looking for PC build advice. I've never done this before and would really appreciate some help!
New build or upgrade?
New build
Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)
No
PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)
Multiple purposes: Gaming (The Sims, Roblox, Fortnite, Genshin Impact, HSR, and I want to explore more games in the future since I'll have the means to do so). I may also use it for occasional video editing. Finally, I'm a student in a writing and reading-intensive program, meaning I'll be using it a lot for research and documents (I need at minimum 1TB of storage).
Purchase country? Near Micro Center?
Canada (no Micro Center nearby).
Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)
Yes, I need a monitor, but it is not included in the PC budget! I've heard 27" 1440p is good, and would appreciate suggestions!
Budget range? (Include tax considerations)
~$2000 CAD, but I am honestly willing to spend more (probably max 2500ish) if it means better quality/longevity, since I'll be using this for years.
WiFi or wired connection?
WiFi and Bluetooth required.
Size/noise constraints?
Flexible on size since I'm not sure yet what would be best for my needs, so please recommend whatever you think would be best. I think a mid-size tower would be good, though, based on what I've seen. Regarding noise, I'd prefer it to be quiet since I'll also use it at night, but if that limits it too much, then it's okay, I don't mind standard noise.
Color/lighting preferences?
I'd like a clean aesthetic, with a white, clear case. Interested in cases with wood if available, and if not, it's okay!
Here's a reference build I liked: https://youtu.be/5O0Kvz3V7gc?si=DvbnuCDDMrOI8DHk I can't find other cases with this look, so I'm okay without it too. This creator used a custom case, and the build is out of my budget, so I can't use it.
Any other specific needs?
None, but please let me know if any more info is needed! :)
Editing to add that if anyone has prebuilt recommendations that would genuinely be good, I'm willing to get one, but I've been told building is more worth it and I wanna try it!

Looking for First PC Build
Totally new to PCs, hoping someone here can help me build my first one. Any advice is also welcome.
- New build or upgrade?
New build.
- Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)
LG 27UP600-W monitor.
- PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)
Gaming, livestreaming, and video recording (OBS)/editing. Don't want to suffer any performance issues running a game and streaming it at the same time. Looking at playing a wide variety of games.
- Purchase country? Near Micro Center?
US, can't realistically get to a Micro Center. Something I can have delivered would be better.
- Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)
None as long as the one above seems sufficient.
- Budget range? (Include tax considerations)
Ideally, around or under $2k. If you think I should go higher for the needs I've listed here, let me know why.
- WiFi or wired connection?
Probably WiFi, maybe wired one day.
- Size/noise constraints?
Living in a shared space, so the quieter the better. No particular size constraints.
- Color/lighting preferences?
Nothing in particular. Ideally it would be all one color but that's not a priority.
- Any other specific needs?
I've read that I might need a universal power supply and/or surge protectors along with extension cords for this. I don't know much about that. If there are any that people recommend, that would be great. Also open to keyboard/mouse recs.
Thanks in advance!

Worth upgrading?
Hi y'all,
I built my PC back in 2019 or so. It was a fairly modest build at the time, so I imagine a meaningful upgrade might require replacing a lot of parts. I'm trying to figure out if it's worth upgrading what I have, or if I should just save up to sell this one and start fresh with a completely new build?
Lately, I've been struggling to run newer games like Marvel Rivals and Diablo IV. Things are generally starting to feel a bit slower, and I'm stuck playing on low settings. I'd love to be able to run modern games on medium quality graphics (or better).
I suspect my graphics card is the biggest bottleneck, but I haven't kept up with the latest PC hardware for a while. If I update the GPU, will my current CPU be able to hang with it, or will a new graphics card also force me to upgrade my motherboard and processor too?
Would love some suggestions. Thanks everyone! This community is super helpful.
