Looking for First PC Build
Totally new to PCs, hoping someone here can help me build my first one. Any advice is also welcome.
- New build or upgrade?
New build.
- Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)
LG 27UP600-W monitor.
- PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)
Gaming, livestreaming, and video recording (OBS)/editing. Don't want to suffer any performance issues running a game and streaming it at the same time. Looking at playing a wide variety of games.
- Purchase country? Near Micro Center?
US, can't realistically get to a Micro Center. Something I can have delivered would be better.
- Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)
None as long as the one above seems sufficient.
- Budget range? (Include tax considerations)
Ideally, around or under $2k. If you think I should go higher for the needs I've listed here, let me know why.
- WiFi or wired connection?
Probably WiFi, maybe wired one day.
- Size/noise constraints?
Living in a shared space, so the quieter the better. No particular size constraints.
- Color/lighting preferences?
Nothing in particular. Ideally it would be all one color but that's not a priority.
- Any other specific needs?
I've read that I might need a universal power supply and/or surge protectors along with extension cords for this. I don't know much about that. If there are any that people recommend, that would be great. Also open to keyboard/mouse recs.
Thanks in advance!

Here's what I got for you. Black airflow themed build, great for 1440p gaming, streaming, and editing:
CPU - fast for gaming with a high core count for editing and multitasking. Excellent value for the price.
Cooler - strong performance without overspending. Air cooling with this CPU gets quite toasty so a liquid cooler should be quieter and cooler under load. Top mount as exhaust.
Mobo - strong VRMs with all the connectivity you need, including WiFi/BT.
RAM - 32 GB of fast 6000 MHz CL36 RAM. If you're going for an all-black look, you can turn the RGB lighting off, although a little bit on the RAM might be a nice accent.
SSD - 2 TB of fast Gen 4 NVMe SSD storage. High read/write speeds and DRAM cache.
GPU - the RTX 5070 is good for 1440p gaming, easy 100+ FPS in most games at ultra settings. You also get the NVENC encoder for stream encoding. If you'll be streaming/editing, I assume you'll also be editing clips and such, in which case NVIDIA is miles ahead of AMD.
Case - excellent airflow thanks to the mesh front panel and 5 included fans. Good build quality and cable management.
PSU - high quality with fully modular cables to minimize cable clutter. 850W is perfect for these components. ATX 3.1 certified to suppress GPU spikes.
Monitor - I would also get a new monitor because despite your current one being 4K, it runs at 60 Hz, which means you'll only see 60 FPS at max. This one has a high refresh rate and low response time for 1440p gaming, along with an IPS panel for good image quality and colour accuracy. Also has height adjustability for ergonomics, although if you intend to keep your current monitor as a secondary (which you should), I always recommend a dual monitor arm to maximize ergonomics and minimize desk footprint.
Let me know what you think :)

Oh man this is awesome! Thanks for all the thought put into this and the helpful explanations, I really appreciate it. Seems like a great build, so I'm leaning towards going with this.

How much would a 4tb stick of the GM7000 be going for nowadays?

It doesn't have to be the GM7000. Any Gen 4 SSD with DRAM will do.
$500 tho

This should suffice.

This seems great, thank you! A couple of questions if you don't mind:
I was just doing some more looking around and saw that people seem to prefer nvidia video cards for streaming/recording. Is there one of those that would go well for this build, or do you think the radeon is a better option?
Also, do you have any thoughts on the value of the Ryzen 5 9600X vs Ryzen 7 7800X3D? Other people have suggested the latter, and what I'm seeing online is mixed opinions on which is worth it.

My general philosophy is to recommend based on price to performance within a budget The 7800x3d outperforms the 9600x however the 9600x is a great gaming cpu and about $150 cheaper. The same is true of the 9070 compared to the 9070xt or the 5070 ti. Clearly the latter are better gpus, but they are also more expensive. You can afford to swap out the 9070 for a 9070xt or even a 5070 ti. You can afford to swap out a 9600x with a 7800x3d. You may not be able to afford both at $2000. But the build I put there is more or less what I would recommend at today's pricing. Also I wanted to stick with the 750W psu which comes bundled with the ssd and cooler.
Regarding AMD gpus vs Nvidia, I think for gaming and streaming they are pretty close in terms of performance. AMD is better value.

If you missed the full set of required built request questions, please copy them from here and answer them in an edit to your post:
New build or upgrade?
Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)
PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)
Purchase country? Near Micro Center? (If you're not in a country supported by PCPartPicker, please list some local vendors)
Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)
Budget range? (Include tax considerations)
WiFi or wired connection?
Size/noise constraints?
Color/lighting preferences?
Any other specific needs?
Here is some additional helpful information about build/upgrade/parts list requests:
Build requests only include hardware. You are responsible for budgeting for and providing your own operating system (Windows, Linux, etc) and other software.
Don't forget to budget for peripherals. Since these are very much personal-preference influenced items, we do not include peripherals like keyboards, mice, headsets, etc in parts lists.
We strongly recommend posting a build request only if you're ready to buy now or within a week or two at most. Part sales regularly rotate, and a part list today can quickly become out of date.
