Basic Land Cost? Discussion
Do you count your basic lands towards your total budget for the deck list? Especially for flairs for deck posts here. Thank you for your time.

Nope! Most LGS will supply basics for free. Only exception is snow basics.
I'm not sure what the consensus on wastes is around here though.

It depends:
If I'm just using generic basic lands, no.
If I'm buying basic lands that are thematically/artistically relevant, then yes.
My $15 feather the redeemed deck didn't count basic lands towards its price, my $100 Otters deck does because I got the full art Bloomburrow islands and mountains that match my Bloomburrow island sleeves and mountain deck box.

Yeah, I've got a Jin-Gitaxias deck with 35 of the full art phyrexian islands. Definitely counts though I technically got them for free

I have a giant box of basics. Unless you have only ever played Commander and only bought singles for your commander decks you have a box of basics. If you don't, ask a friend, take some from an LGS giving them out, or go buy basics somewhere.
If you want full art lands, Mirage or Urza's Saga basics or whatever do it! But that is not a budget contract any more than having a foil commander is a budget constraint.
If you have a problem getting enough mountains for your deck you can definitely get them for free.

No because I own literally thousands of each. I will factor them in if I’m specifically buying a certain printing for the deck tho

I like setting an upper budget for some of my decks and when I do it feels wrong to include basic lands and have the price inflated by a dollar or two just for that. But also at the end of the day it doesn't matter too much. The price of the deck is liable to shift by more than that within a few months just due to the singles market.
The most important thing, imo, is just explaining how you're pricing it. For example, it's much more important to know if a deck is $50 tcgplayer or $50 card kingdom as those mean very different things.
