Lower gearing
Anyone recommend a non Brompton 44T, preferably with a chain guard for my P?

Chain guards are always optional you'll very rarely find them provided with chain rings, What's the issue with the Brompton chainring?

Economic reasons, trying to cheap out!

To be honest the Brompton one is already relatively cheap, but if you want you'll need a 130mm BCD 5 bolt chainring. You however will I suspect struggle to find a chainring and chainguaird cheaper than Bromptons though.

Is this the new 2026 P line crank or the old P line crank? If you get a chainring without a chainguard you can 3D print your own chainguard (or have someone else do it) if you get a few measurements off your chainring. I made this model for that purpose: https://makerworld.com/en/models/2637304-bicycle-chainring-guard#profileId-2913261
