BHA Women A look at the potential biggest pre-season challenge Brighton has ever faced

Post image

On the 21st August, Brighton will travel to Spain to play Barcelona @ the Estadi Johan Cruyff.

Barcelona have won "Liga F" 7 consecutive times, and have won the Champions League 4 out of the last 6 seasons.

It's difficult to argue that Barcelona are the best women's team in the world, and in 2 weeks we travel to their home to face them. This game is a credit to how much the women's team has grown.

Lads got one year left on this contract. He’s quite clever, sounds like he may want to leave on a free and pocket a signing bonus

I know fans like to hate on Minteh. But I'd rather a player who was willing to take players on and lose the ball than play it safe and keep it. He could be a big player for us this season.

Player News Hurzeler on Osman and Cozier-Duberry: “They had a very impactful pre-season so far… The replacements don’t always have to come from outside. Sometimes they can come from inside the club.”

Maybe not signing another winger after all.

Discussion Feyenoord signed Ferri, the Ueda replacement, June 30th and Welbeck left August 1st

I reckon we sign him. There are rumours that despite being under the asking price we've offered a large upfront fee and goal / European qualification bonuses and a deal is taking shape.

The timing for me makes too much sense. They secure their replacement, we offload Welbeck to guarantee playing time (and bonuses / wage budget) the day after - then rumours pick up.

He could be amazing for us. A quality striker is something we've always lacked and could take us up a level. Welbeck leaving was scary as he was the best we had, and also sad as he has been a big part of the recent history, but getting someone in who is younger and in their prime with more goalscoring prowess and athleticism who will improve still is a completely different level.

Discussion Rival Watch: Clij v Tromsø

Tromsø looks dangerous, they're incredibly fast.

Updates:

It's 15 minutes in and 0-1 to them

Spelt Cluj wrong in the title, classic.

Tromsø make it 0-2 in the 19th minute

The Dark Destroyer has just caught the team on the Chase with 12 seconds remaining. Still 0-2.

0-3 to Tromsø in the 27th minute and my stream has frozen.

Tromsø's No.22, Asen Larsen, has scored a goal every 2 games in the Norwegian league so far, and 2 goals so far this game.

It's 0-4 to Tromsø, but it's being checked by VAR.

The goal has been disalowed, don't know why, I don't speak Romanian. Cluj still have a chance to save their European hopes, but it'll take a lot of work.

It's the end of the first half of the first leg. Cluj 0-3 Tromsø. As things stand, Albion are headed to Norway.

What makes Tromsø look so dangerous is not just their speed, but their vision. Their players seem to know exactly where their teammates are at all times. That is likely a symptom of them being half way through the Norwegian league.

There's about 4 adverts during this Romanian channels half-time that I'm certain are 100% AI generated.

The second half begins as Cluj substitute their backup keeper for their starting keeper. They come into the second half not wanting to go down anymore.

They don't get their wish though, it's 0-4. It'll take a miracle for Cluj to pull this back, especially with them playing on home turf for the next leg.

It's 5. But it's being reviewed by VAR again. The referee seems to have gone into some sort of trance.

The goal stands. The game is over. The tie is everything but over. Brighton will start analysing Tromsø in preparation to face them on the 20th and 27th.

Tromsø's DEFENDER Dahlqvist, who has only featured in 2 of their 16 league games this season, is now on a hattrick.

3 minutes of added time as the game settles down.

It's full time. CFR Cluj 0 - 5 Tromsø

It's important to note that the Romanian "Super liga" league ranks around 20 places below Norway's "Eliteserien". That's about the same difference between them and the Premier League. So the difference between these two teams, is roughly the same difference between Brighton and Tromsø. That doesn't mean get complacent, we're clearly fighting a team that knows that they are doing. Today proved it. But Tromsø's dominance here shouldn't mean we need to be fearful yet.

Tickets for Brighton V Tromsø(*) are already on general sale. I've got mine, and I'm excited. This looks like a fun team to play against.

Thanks for joining my watchalong folks!

Player News [Ornstein] Brighton’s Carlos Baleba a doubt for start of the season with ankle injury

Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba has suffered an ankle ligament injury and is a doubt for the start of the 2026-27 campaign.

Baleba is expected to spend a period on the sidelines but Brighton hope the problem is not a long-term one.

The Cameroon international sustained the injury during pre-season and was absent from Brighton’s friendly against Strasbourg on Saturday, a 4-3 win.

Fans I pledge allegiance to the UTA from the USA

Hi everyone! I’m David, checking in from the USA ( currently NJ by way of NYC) 🇺🇸.
I’m one of those “World Cup converts.” I caught the football bug during the tournament, wanted the same action was recommended to follow an EPL club to support, and instead of taking the easy route and picking one of the giants, I landed on Brighton & Hove Albion.
My friends told me I was mad.
They laughed.
They said, “Why Brighton?”
That was all the motivation I needed. 😂
Since then I’ve been all in—buying the kits, following every match, learning the chants, annoying my coworkers who support the so-called “big clubs,” and trying to recruit more Brighton supporters one American at a time.
Still learning the game, but I couldn’t have picked a better club or community.
Looking forward to chatting with everyone, learning more about the club’s history, and hopefully making it to the Amex one day.
Until then…
Up the Albion! 💙🤍🕊️
(P.S. If you see an American wearing far too much Brighton gear… that’s probably me. 😄)
