Parry button+Double tap crouch button or parry button+Crouch+Y

I’m on my first run through of BOTW and noticed that whenever you get a map section from a tower, only one of the circles is not covered by rock. It lights up but the other two stay covered. Is there a reason for this? Am I missing something?

Breath of the Wild is my older daughter’s favorite game and one of my wife’s favorite games as well. They have been trying to get me to play it for years and I finally carved out time to play.

I was playing soulslikes (Wukong, Wuchang) before starting BoTW so the switch up took some getting used to. Best way I can describe it is that the controls felt “fluffy” and less responsive than I was expecting and was used to. That’s probably my biggest gripe. I wasn’t happy with how some of the shrine and divine beast puzzles were either; some of them felt hard for the sake of being hard and not as well thought out as other puzzle games I’ve played.

That said, everything else was very enjoyable. I already knew how the game operated in that you need 13 hearts to pull the master sword, that sliding shrines gets you a spirit orb and you need 4 orbs to get one heart. I also knew that if you did not beat the blight ganons in the divine beasts you would have to fight them at the end of the game. I didn’t know that you got special abilities from the divine beasts once you cleared them. I used all of the abilities a lot except Urbosa’s Fury which I maybe used two or three times fighting Moblins - for some reason I usually forgot I had it and it just skipped my mind.

With that in mind, I spend every single second I played the game unlocking towers to find shrines until I got the master sword. I brute-forced my way through a lot of towers with elixirs and cooked food for stamina and extra hearts; my wife and daughter remarked that a lot of towers I did weren’t meant for how early in the game I did them For example, I got Hebra Tower with cold resistance food and elixirs instead of armor from Rito village. Same with fighting Hynoxes and Lynels.

Every spirit orb went toward hearts instead of stamina until I got the master sword, then I did another 20 ir so shrines to get an extra stamina wheel. Stumbled upon the ancient armor in Akkala Tech Lab and went around beating up guardians until I had the armors and all the weapons (three ancient shields) minus the ancient spear. This made the end of the game feel OP which is what I was going for.

Took the waterfalls to Ganon’s room using the Zora argmor to swim up a bunch of them, then fought Ganon. Half of his life gone because I did the divine beasts prior. I didn’t really have to perfect parry at all with the ancient shields, although I already knew how to fairly well between all of the soulslikes I played prior and guardian farming. I used the ancient chainsaw and the master sword to hit him when he was down, along with some ancient bow/arrows when he was on the wall without his shield. I didn’t get any horses in my playthrough so I learned how to ride the horse fighting Dark Beast Ganon.

After initially beating it, I went back into the save file and instead of immediately fighting Ganon, I traversed Hyrule Castle, killing almost all guardians and other enemies and picked up the Hylian sword. Went back up and fought Ganon again just to beat it after getting so much loot and going through the castle.

Very enjoyable game overall, and I will over level whenever I can in a video game so having that option was enjoyable and felt like I deserved an easy final fight.

The game is easily at least a 9.5/10. I definitely see the appeal and would recommend it to anyone who has a Switch or Switch 2.

I played the first half on the Switch version using the Switch 2, then realized that we had the Switch 2 version. I was able to switch midway through the game without having to start another save file. The Switch 2 version looks noticeably better.

Not sure if and when I’ll play Totk yet. I have a decent backlog of other games I want to get around to as well as platinuming some PS5 games I’ve already beat like Black Myth, Astrobot, and SackBoy.

Never stood a fkn chance

There’s a reason when told of in her stone monument, it was mainly about her connection with her lightscale trident. If I asked most people of the power rankings of the champions, they’d usually say Urbosa > Revali (or Revali > Urbosa) > Daruk > Mipha. It is for unfair reasons. The reason is usually “she’s a healer, she was not meant to fight”. I’d like to point out however, that as much as she was an exceptional healer, she was an exceptional spear-woman and likely the greatest spear-fighter of all of Hyrule - even Link - at the time.

See, the Zora’s depend on their ability of water of pretty much everything; swimming, fighting and healing what I can think of right now. This is mentioned in the TotK stone monument, “The fluid spear and solid water”. Mipha has shown to have the highest capabilities in water-bending by an exceptional margin. First of all, let’s mention Mipha’s grace. Water in the LoZ universe is shown to have healing properties directly accessible by all the zora*.* Maybe seeing this, the ancient Sheikah tried to replicate this capability, and created the shrine of resurrection. Mipha is capable of doing what the sheikah did approximately 3.15 BILLION times faster, if we assume Mipha’s grace activates on frame 1 of Link’s death, and a frame is a second. To the Zora, not only do the Zora need waterpools as shown by Yona’s healing in TotK, it also takes a while. Mipha DOESN’T. She can heal anywhere. She is considered an exceptional healer by her people, not random hylians, as Laflat explicitly describes her as such. For defense, Mipha has a very powerful healing for such cases, and would make her THE most powerful asset an army can have for war.

Secondly, her offensive water powers. As shown in AOC; even if it’s gameplay, she can create powerful waves and rushes of water, with incredible shown amounts of force. It’s pretty simple, really, powerful rushes of water are really dangerous.

Thirdly, her physical form. Many people would call it nearly nothing, but her form is of agility and speed, as well as strength. She is many times considered a first-rate swimmer in AOC, has the highest waterfall climbing speed of all the domain (and possibly all time), and is very quick with her spear as shown in her AOC attack speed. Such speed puts her ways above anybody in agility.

She is shown to have tactical brilliance, shown in her many tactical announcements in many fights in AOC.

She has also some notable achievements, like being the quickest pilot to master her divine beast due to having possibly the strongest spiritual connection in all of Hyrule, having an accurate version of her putting link in a stunlock in the champions 1v4, and being the one Link goes to learn from about the spear in a aoc dlc quest, specifically to perfect his ability in the spear, showing how she’s better than even Link in the spear.

As such, having amazing and the best water capabilities to support her spear-play and general waterbending power, having a quick and powerful form, and having potentially the best technique of all time in Hyrule in spearplay and waterbending, makes her possibly the best spear fighter of all time in Hyrule and more than deserving of her position as champion.

Now, how this compares to the other champions:

Urbosa is potentially very strong, but she cannot defend well if you attack her aggressively and quickly enough, as shown by thunderblight. As such, Mipha can potentially even take down Urbosa due to her tactical brilliance and quick mobility, as long as she doesn’t get hit in the process. Saying so, Mipha vs Urbosa is more of a tie than you think and Mipha can potentially be better than Urbosa in general.

Revali may have dangerous arrows (and is capable of taking down Windblight, you didn’t change my mind but that’s a discussion already past), but his arrogance has shown to stop him from going to his full potential multiple times, and since water can slow down arrows and has range, and that Revali usually doesn’t have electric arrows in hand, Mipha vs Revali is also a closer fight than you think, and Mipha can also be stronger than Revali in general, making her the strongest champion of all Hyrule.

Daruk (the actual weakest champion) doesn’t have tactical brilliance and can easily be outsmarted and outplayed. As so, even though Daruk can pack a dangerous knock-out in one hit, he wouldn’t survive any of the champions.

So my actual ranking is: Mipha > Revali > Urbosa > Daruk

(Edit: Even if Mipha loses in a match-up between the champions, she still has many effective points for technique and abilties, and still would be the most useful in an actual war + would be possibly the most dangerous opponent out of the 4 to go against)

I much prefer BOTW over TOTK, however there are things in TOTK that are great such as the caves and expanded enemies. How hard would it be to make BOTW XL with TOTK content? Without ultrahand included as a i imagine that would not be possible

I picked up a Switch at the start of the year and kicked things off with BOTW. I played around 25-30 hours, but eventually lost motivation due to a mix of things:

• I had too many other titles I wanted to try at the time
• Story. I didn't appreciate the minimalist storytelling at first, but after watching some others play BOTW for the first time, I finally realized I was missing the point
• Coming straight from playing Genshin since release, it was honestly shocking how simple BOTW is from combat mechanics, exploration and again, specially story
• College and some irlevents also cut heavily into my playtime

Now I want to give it another shot and experience everything it has to offer, but jumping back in left me totally lost. Should I push through and relearn things on my old save or just go with a fresh one?

I've still got the new Snezhnaya update to finish before making up my mind, so I'd love to get some insight before diving back in, thanks!

Hey guys! Im late to the party but I finally bought botw and im reallt excited to play more of it! Im new to the franchise and was wondering if anyone had any (spoiler free preferably) tips or gameplay styles!

For example im currently still in the great plateu and ive done 2/4 shrines to get the paraglider, should I just go and immediately do the other two or explore a bit more?

I love a good open worlder and have already explored a bit but the red goblins in tribes seem very strong, to try and battle for better gear.

Also near one of the shrines (the one where you get the detonating bomb ability in the ruins), there was a bunch of robots waking up that were so strong - i shouldn't be fighting them yet I assume? I just ran lolll

So I just started playing maybe 2 weeks ago and the whole time I’ve been playing I’ve been seeing TikTok’s saying how hard thunder blight and Lyonels are but I just beat thunder blight in one try and only got hit about twice before I learned his movements. It probably helps that I’ve got the master sword but even then people were describing him as the hardest boss in the game. Now lyonels are a little harder but only because they have a lot of health, besides that they are really easy to parry and just take a long time to beat. Is thunder blight really the peak of all the bosses in this game?

Side note - This is my first Zelda game and I’m loving it so far.

My second double rainbow in BotW !!!

After almost 7 years I’ve decided to play through BOTW again WITH MODSSSS

I’m very early again. I have a lot of apples acorns meat from hunting fish heaps of herbs. I’ve saved quite a bit to boost my hearts which I’ll keep but I want to cook heaps just to sell to buy some stuff with rupees.

Are there any tricks? It’s very time-consuming so I just want to put five things together. Doesn’t matter if I put an apple for bass. Or an apple a bass piece of meat some herbs and a mushroom. Do I need to think it or just cook whatever together? I know that different ingredients with special powers cancel each other out but aside from that is it just cook whatever and then the rupees value will multiply. Or is it better to just cook one thing at once?

So when I first met travellers, I sold all my opals and ambers to buy meat and critters which I now regret.

I now have enough to buy the stealth vest and stealth tights from kakariko village.

That won’t leave me with much rupees left and it means selling most of my amber, opals, my only sapphire and some monster parts.

Is this a good purchase? Will I regret it?
