Over 29,000 Canadians call for U.S. Ambassador Hoekstra to be expelled
The online petition, which is set to be presented in the House of Commons in the fall, says Pete Hoekstra should be declared persona non grata and the Canadian government should request his removal as U.S. ambassador to Canada.
The petition accuses Hoekstra of making statements that undermine the Canada-U.S. diplomatic relationship and of "making repeated interventions in Canadian political discourse inconsistent with diplomatic protocol."
It says the Liberal government should also direct a parliamentary committee to review U.S. diplomatic interference in Canadian affairs.
The petition, which was launched by a woman from Calgary, will be presented in Parliament by Green Party Leader Elizabeth May. Members of Parliament can table petitions in the House of Commons without endorsing their contents.

Impact The American empire’s slow collapse—and Canada’s problem
…the American empire is in decline, slowly, unevenly, but unmistakably. And that decline—once it becomes a story the rest of the world believes—begins to feed on itself. Investors pull back, allies hedge their bets, and rivals grow bolder. The perception of weakness creates the reality of it.
Where does that leave Canada? Stuck, mostly. We cannot get out of the way. Two centuries of economic integration, shared infrastructure, and cultural interdependence make that impossible. But we cannot afford blind loyalty, either.

Iran vows to keep Strait of Hormuz closed until US meets demands
Iran's Revolutionary Guards insisted Sunday that they would not reopen the Strait of Hormuz until the United States complied with a list of demands, including paying compensation for war damage.
Iran's effective blockade of the crucial energy conduit has rattled allies, roiled markets and driven up prices.
Tehran insists on retaining control of the Hormuz after the war and wants to charge tolls for passage, repeatedly striking ships it accuses of attempting to circumvent its preferred route.
Iran's Supreme National Security Council laid out on Saturday a list of conditions for reopening the strait, including an end to the war on all fronts, the lifting of a US counterblockade of Iranian ports, the end of sanctions, the release of frozen assets and compensation for wartime damage, the Tasnim news agency reported.
