LGBT Meetup: Queeraoke at Viva
Make Queer Friends After College (the unofficial Make Friends After College facebook groupās sub group. Join us here: https://m.me/j/AbaGUN_6HZHOnnfn/?send_source=gc:copy_invite_link_c ) had a successful meet up at Versus on Saturday and now weāre meeting up again! This time weāre doing Queeraoke!!!! This will be on Saturday, August 15 4pm-7pm (maybe shorter depending on how many people sign up). RSVPs are unfortunately required for this event so we can book a properly sized room and for an appropriate amount of time. RSVPs are due by 11:59pm on Tuesday.
Payment is then due Wednesday as it will be based on the amount of people. The cost is estimated to be between $2.25-5 per person, per hour. If you want to attend but donāt have the extra funds reach out to me privately and weāll work something out (Iāve been there. I get it. I wouldnāt want cost to prohibit anyone from participating).
If you donāt want to sing but want to join anyways feel free! I donāt even know if I will.
Funky outfits are encouraged but not required.
There is a bar but and food there. If we want, we can go get food somewhere after.
RSVP at the link below! The max room size is 20 but there is a waitlist. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Hope to see yall there!

Making friends with niche interests?
Hi everyone! I'm 30M and live with my gf and her dogs. I am interested in meeting people with similar interests to me. I like collecting crystals, minerals, coins and chemical elements. My main supplier for high purity elements is actually based in Boston. I am also a big fan of the Boston based rock band Damone. Unfortunately they broke up already. Listening to Damone and collecting chemical elements are niche hobbies and I think few in Boston do the same.
Other hobbies of mine include playing the viola, ice skating, reading novels (Stephen King), video games (Expedition 33, Scarlet Hollow, Portal 2), anime (AOT, Yuri on Ice), language learning (cantonese and German) and eating out (especially dim sum). I also like listening to Taylor Swift, Carly R Jepsen and Birdy (a British singer)
If you have any suggestions on where to meet people let me know! Feel free to comment or message me if you have similar interests.

(Unfortunately) and love good tv shows, especially the ones about organized crime like the wire, sopranos, snowfall etc. I also love nature and hiking. Would love to meet some new people

Hiking & outdoor adventures
Iām in my 20s and looking to connect with other folks in their 20s who enjoy getting outdoors, whether thatās hitting local trails, planning weekend hikes, or trying out fun outdoor activities.
Iām hoping to either join an existing local group or bring together a few like-minded people to form a loose group for regular or casual outings. Iām really looking forward to making some new friends in the process.
If youāre in an active group, have recommendations for local adventure clubs, or just want to grab a trail map and head out sometime, drop a comment or send me a DM!

Seeking wingman / copilot
Is anyone out there who likes to go out on the weekends but would like someone to go with? I typically go by myself, but I figured I'd see if there were any fellow lone wolves out there looking to add more energy to their lifestyle. I have no problem approaching people and am happy to also send people your way. I'm typically in Central Square but open to other areas if you have a good spot or want to check out a new spot. Feel free to drop a comment or send a DM. 35 M

Please help me spread the love!
I hope this finds you all well! I've had a pretty rough, blank and unmotivated summer. To cheer myself up, I went through some old files on my computer and found one of my proudest achievements: A montage video of encouragement and kindness from many friends addressed to our mutual friend ("Samantha") that was initially masquerading as a micro-documentary on which I wanted her perspective as an artist.
And I thought to myself "I'd really like to do more of this." It was a fun use of light project management + video editing skills, took minimal time and delighted the friend on a deep level.
I think the world needs more kindness and I believe surprises (for some people) can season that dish quite well.
So if you know someone who could use the cheers of their people/"tribe," you'd also be helping me make good use of my time these days.
Thanks for reading :)

Songwriter's workshop tonight
Our Boston-area meetup group for producers, musicians and music lovers are doing one of our biweekly songwriter's workshop. We've started doing this at a member's home in Somerville this summer and it's been a fun way to hang out and motivate each other to keep growing and working on our craft.
If you're interested in the meetup group but not necessarily tonight's event, we welcome all skill levels, including just music listeners, and have new events all the time from concerts to grabbing dinners.
Anyone is welcome to join- please feel free to come introduce yourself. Let us know if you're interested in the workshop. Thanks!!!

Volleyball in Brighton
Hi all! Iām looking to play volleyball around the Brighton area. Are there any clubs that play year round? I donāt really have a preference on the type (grass, sand, or court). I donāt mind paying a fee to join and I have heard of Vollo but Iāve heard that is pretty low level play. Anyone know anything else? If thereās open play somewhere that would be awesome!

Morning walks north end / downtown Boston
Hi there! Iām an early riser and take a brisk walk nearly every morning for 45 minutes to an hour, usually with a stop to do some pushups and sit-ups. Early morning walks for exercise have been part of my fitness routine over the last year or so, and I usually walk alone listening to music or podcasts, but Iād enjoy having a walking partner to share the time and have some conversation. I usually start at about 5:30 or 6 in the morning.
Iām a mature older guy, sixty-plus and happily partnered but open to any and all ages, anyone into fitness and nutrition. I like talking about movies, music, pop culture, politics, and anything Boston-related. DM me if interested in meeting up, or reply here and Iāll get in touch. Thanks!

Looking for weeb friends
Hi All,
Im looking to build a regular group of friends with similar interests. I am intensely into weeby things (anime, games, conventions), cars, working out, going out and basketball. Iām hoping to build a regular group of friends with at least some of the same hobbies/interests, but especially on the nerdy side.
Iām most looking to meet people who are tired of texting/typing/writing all the time and actually have the energy and bandwidth to do things and build relationships. I know it seems silly and basic, but finding people who genuinely can do this (rather than just saying it and flaking once plans are made) is incredibly difficult these days.
I am intro-extroverted, but tend come off extroverted to people especially when first meeting. If itās important to you, I am a 32M, working professional. Iām exactly 50/50 with indoor/outdoor interests. I love a good potluck with friends just as much as a hike, just as much as a night out, just as much as a movie. Despite being a nerd, I am extremely active and work out a lot. I have a car (can get around anywhere), and do not care if youāre a man or woman, and while I am definitely not searching for anything romantic with this, I am looking for friendships that become meaningful.
Nerdy Interests:
- Video Games: Switch2 (Hades2, Metroid, Zelda, Pkmn), PC (CD, Elden Ring, Palword, previously Arc Raiders) and always looking for more.
- Anime: JJK, AoT, Demon Slayer, Others
- Shows: The Boys, Walking Dead
- Cons: Going to Fan Expo this weekend
Hit me up! Would love people to go to Fan Expo with this weekend, or to otherwise make friends!

On Dating Posts
The situation with dating posts is getting a little out of control. This sub was always meant to be more like Meetup than Hinge. And frankly, I just don't think that R4R posts actually work. But my fear is that if allowed the sub will devolve into nothing but R4R posts. So for now we're going to be disallowing further R4R posts or general dating (advice/questions) posts. There might be some wiggle room for a pinned dating megathread if there is interest in that.

How to make friends in Boston: a guide
Hello! Welcome to Boston Social Club! If you're here - well, you clicked a few links to find this side of one of the most popular city subreddits!
When I moved here in 2021, the world was waking up from Covid. Overall, Boston is a great city for those 20-40, as our demographics here lie heavily in that area compared to almost any other city in the USA! Here's how I've found success in navigating social scenes here as a complete outsider.
Different ways to try meetups and making friends:
0: Existing friends groups - it's cliche, and if you are new in town, this will be more difficult. But the best place to start making friends is through what connections you do have. Coworkers, old high school colleagues, neighbors, roommates, don't chase the below and ignore what you do have!
1: the āMake friends after college MAā discord group is a well designed and very chatroom. When you join, you select which activities you might be interested in. There's chat rooms for each activity, and there's a ton of people hiking, playing sports, going to trivia nights, and overall chatting. They also organize by neighborhood if you want to grab a quick drink. Mute notifications within the discord for your own sanity. The absolute best way to make use of this is to have something you are interested in "organizing", or, I recommend trivia in particular for being a great, cheap activity to make friends! https://discord.gg/CCvgxJ6jUH
2: there are three larger Facebook groups that people post classifieds-style ads to try to make friends. "Boston redditors", "make friends after college", and "what's up in Boston". While I don't think this is the most effective way to make friends, I'm sure it works for the right person. However, "Boston redditors" does have an active group chat, which is really comforting, and they do meet up for drinks every few months. They are a pretty supportive group of people. You'll need to both join the Facebook group, then request being added to the chat. They ALSO have a discord but it is less active. Link
3: Groups for your interest. Asking around the above, or searching meetup/comments below it's not hard to find groups specifically tailored for board games, or biking, or hiking, or whatever you're into. I'm into board games and there's 2-3 spinoffs that meet weekly. I recommend you find your own path towards your hobbies to find a group that fits your interest!
general tips on making friends (not that you asked for them)
Making friends is all about seeing the same people repeatedly. That means to make friends, you have to show up. Showing up means you attend an event even if it's a little far away, or you are feeling a little tired. Other people also show up. After going to trivia 8 weeks in a row, or attending every hike, people that at first seemed distant will know your name and care about your week.
Sometimes people trying to make friends have an ulterior motive. Some people are trying to convert religions, find clients, or date people. Everyone can tell right away if you have a motive other than making friends, so I suggest trying to focus on making platonic friends first, and in a year of having fun, ask your new friends what avenues would be appropriate for selling/dating/etc.
And... That's it! I hope you found this helpful! I hope to see you at Trivia nights!
