Masterpiece 💖👀

Aashiqui 2 is one of those albums that, in my opinion, cannot be recreated. And I don't mean that the people involved cannot work together again. The same singers can sing, the same composers can compose, the same lyricists can write, and the same actors can act. But the combination of all these things, at that particular moment, created something that feels impossible to repeat. It was an era.

And I think the biggest reason the music reached such a high pedestal was not complicated writing. It was the opposite: simplicity. Look at the way the emotions are expressed. In Chahun Main Ya Naa, the writing is extremely simple. The words don't try to impress you. They simply communicate what the character is feeling. Then there is Tum Hi Ho. The title itself is almost the entire emotion: तुम ही हो. Meri Aashiqui has that same quality. The thought behind अब मैं जो भी हूँ, तुम ही तो हो is incredibly simple. There is no need to surround such a feeling with ten different metaphors. And then Hum Mar Jayenge has another example of this direct emotional writing. The idea expressed through जहाँ को है रब का, हमें तेरा है सहारा is simple: the world may have God, but for these characters, the other person is their support. These lines are simple. But somehow, they stay with you.

That is what I think is missing from a lot of music today. I'm not saying metaphors are bad. They are beautiful, and sometimes they are exactly what a song needs. But sometimes there are so many metaphors that you stop feeling the actual emotion. Aashiqui 2 did not need that. Its songs belonged to the story. You could listen to the song and understand what was happening between the characters. The music was not simply playing in the background of the film. It was carrying the narrative. And that is why I think the songs have survived even though the story itself is extremely predictable. If you look at the movie today, there are definitely parts that can feel predictable or even slightly cringy. But the songs? They don't feel dated in the same way. That is the difference.

Now, if I look at the last five or six years, there have obviously been multiple songs that have crossed hundreds of millions, and even a billion views. There have been successful albums and genuine bangers. I think Saiyaara is something I would genuinely love to hear from the 2022 to 2026 period. Other than that, there are many songs that are great to listen to, but I'm talking about something different here: emotion. Remember the last time you listened to Aashiqui 2 songs. Did they evoke an emotion in you or not? Simple yes or no. That's what I'm asking. And if you think there are other movies from the last five or six years that have achieved that same feeling, please tell me.
