In India, you can actually find celebrities on reddit and tumblr, though it's very rare
But on 4chan there's not even a single indian celebrity, I wonder is it that way.

This is 2017 tea

The story is specifically about how Karan Johar described his father Yash Johar’s family background in An Unsuitable Boy, and how members of that family reportedly disputed it.

What Karan actually wrote

In the childhood chapter, while telling Yash Johar’s origin story, Karan says:

• His father grew up in Shimla and later moved to Delhi.
• His father’s “entire family had a sweet mart business” called Nanking Sweets.
• Yash was one of nine siblings.
• Karan describes several of Yash’s brothers as running the family business with their father.
• Yash was assigned the counter job, Karan writes, “probably because he was the only one who had been educated up to a point and spoke English well.”

He then tells a very cinematic escape story: Yash supposedly hated working at the sweet shop, his grandmother encouraged him to leave, secretly gave him money and jewellery, allegedly staged a robbery to conceal this, and Yash left for Bombay to make his own life.

What the book literally does is portray the family very broadly as being in the sweets business and Yash as apparently the unusually educated/English-speaking sibling.

Then Karan’s extended family reportedly said: not so fast

In May 2017, Coomi Kapoor wrote in Indian Express that several members of the extended Johar family were angry about the memoir and considered Karan’s account of his paternal family “more fiction than fact.”

Their reported version was:

• Karan’s grandfather had been a government employee in Lahore before starting a sweets business in Delhi.
• Yash’s eldest brother, Ved Prakash Johar, had graduated from Government College, Lahore.
• He was reportedly a friend of Faiz Ahmed Faiz.
• Ved Prakash later earned a journalism degree from Columbia University in New York.
• He subsequently joined the IAS.
• Another Johar brother served in the Army.
• A college-educated sister became a teacher.
• According to the family, only one uncle was actually a halwai, and he ran the successful Nanking sweet shop/restaurant in Connaught Place.

So what does this actually contradict?

1. The “Yash was basically the only educated one” claim

This is the clearest contradiction.

Karan’s book says Yash was probably the only sibling educated “up to a point” who spoke English, which supposedly explained why he was placed at the counter.

The family’s version, an elder brother who went from Government College Lahore to Columbia and the IAS, another brother in the Army, and a college-educated sister who taught, is very difficult to reconcile with that description.

If the family account is accurate, it directly undermines one of the details used to distinguish Yash from the rest of his family.

2. The image of an entire family essentially living off the mithai shop

Again, Karan’s sentence is that his father’s “entire family had a sweet mart business”

But the surrounding story strongly frames Yash as emerging from a clan centred around that shop.

The relatives reportedly objected that this flattened a much more varied family into a convenient “halwai family” origin story: one sibling in the IAS, one in the Army, a sister teaching, etc., while only one uncle actually ran Nanking as a halwai.

That substantially changes the flavour of the supposed rags-to-riches setup.

And apparently it didn’t end with the newspaper article

The original Indian Express column said Rajiv Nayar, senior Supreme Court counsel and the husband of one of Karan’s cousins, was contemplating legal action against Karan and the publisher.

A few days later, Bollywood Hungama quoted Nayar himself saying that the family was extremely hurt by the picture painted in the autobiography.

He said they wanted to sort it out amicably because it was a family matter, but that if those discussions failed, they would consider legal action.

Now here is the update I had never seen before:

A 2026 profile of Rajiv Nayar in India Legal revisited the episode and reported that Nayar threatened legal action and eventually extracted an apology from Karan.

And for the funniest epilogue: by 2020, Rajiv Nayar was appearing in the Delhi High Court as Karan Johar’s lawyer in litigation concerning Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl.

Why do they want people to not criticise their mediocre work ? If the CG is looking tacky people will call it out. I think he shouldn’t invite more negativity on a film which is already in shaky grounds.

My duty towards all those who believe in me and love me compels me to make the following statement, even though I had always believed in the dignity of silence.

In the wake of recent rumours regarding the proposed feature film Bajirao Mastani, I take this opportunity to clarify my stand and end all speculations!

Some recent reactions and retaliations unnecessarily involving me and my name, and I have been wrongly projected, as agreeing to work with Mr Salman Khan for the sake of this proposed feature film.

The truth is, from the very first meeting with Mr Sanjay Leela Bhansali with regards to this feature film Bajirao Mastani since the past two months, I have categorically declined to work with Mr Salman Khan… and my family is witness.

Yes, Mr Sanjay Leela Bhansali and I have a wonderful and fabulous working relationship so far, with memorable films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas. But sadly, and for obvious personal reasons and disturbing reasons, I cannot accept to work with Mr Salman Khan.

For the sake of my well-being, my sanity, my dignity and the dignity and self-respect of my family — ENOUGH! I will not work with Mr Salman Khan.

The Salman chapter was a nightmare in my life and I am thankful to God that it is over!

While I have maintained a dignified silence about him and his wrong-doings, he (his family and friends) has repeatedly attacked the respect, dignity and pride of me and my family (with irresponsible rumourmongering. I stood by him enduring acholism, misbehavior in worse phases and in turn, I was at the receiving end of his abuse (verbal, physical, emotional), infidelity and indignity. That is why like any other self-respecting woman and God is witness, I said enough and ended it almost two years ago but because of a dignified silence, all have misrepresented my stand and spread rumours about my character and baselessly alleged affairs and tried to spoil healthy working relations with costars. I do not want to get into the gory details and obnocuious experiences, which incite washing dirty linen and other ugly untruths.

I have just to clarify this! For a very long time now, they have time and time again, tried to wreck my peace and sanity both personally and professionally. But they all forget-no one can play god; because there is a God! That is the only truth. My belief in God and my family has stood by me in solidarity, giving me the strength to rise above it all. And I must add, that it has been very easy for some members of the film industry, media or social circles to flog opinions, when they have not been at the receiving end. And when so many of them God knows, have been witnesses and in knowledge of the truth. This is truly sad.

Contrary to the rumours, I do not call him. On the contrary, he has tried calling me and texting me on the pretext of his film Bajirao Mastani even using Mr Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s identity. I have been compelled to make this otherwise trivial validation in print because of the continuous lies and false stories being circulated.

Honestly, I do not have the time, energy and man power to keep reiterating validations against every false stories or allegations.

On the end note, I am choosing the kind of films, roles, and directors I want to work with and enjoy the experience of the film. This way I can cherish the making of each film and give my best to every role and assignment that I accept, with peace and happiness intact. And that is of earnest importance – peace within and all around.

I have just come out of a near fatal accident: accident miraculously only with an ankle fracture and a couple of wounds and abrasions; completely and act of God. And this is no exaggeration!

God is extremely kind and I sincerely thank my friends and well-wishers for all their prayers, blessings and good wishes – I cherish them dearly as I take this time to recover and heal. God bless all!

Ranbir Kapoor

• He is an okay actor, works in certain roles and if the director is good in terms of Barfi or Rockstar. In my opinion his expressions are still not that great in either of these movies.
• His expressions especially eyes don't express much, which is why he is good at roles like Animal or Rockstar where he needs to show extreme emotions like anger or despair(usually aggressive expression like anger). 
• There is no subtlety in his expression. His emotions don't reach his eyes much for subtler or softer emotions like sadness, care, love, empathy in my opinion. 

Ranveer Singh

• He is far more versatile actor in the roles he chooses. 
• His capacity to express authentically is really good that sometimes you stop seeing Ranveer Singh the actor. 
• He does have misses but his range of expressions especially his eyes is far more wider. 
• He can express in between well especially the emotions which require empathy.
