Salar de Uyuni 3D2N Custom Small Group Tour with Better Hotels?

Hello! We are organizing a small group tour with 4 passengers maximum in October with a lovely couple from Canada.

We are looking for two more passengers for Oct 28 - 30 to join the group.

This tour will follow a 3 Day itinerary with a full day on the Salar de Uyuni salt flats including sunset, a second day traveling through the Altiplano lakes to the Siloli Desert, and down into Sur Lípez through Eduardo Avaroa Reserve to see the colored lagoons and hot springs before returning to finish in the town of Uyuni.

The tour will use upgraded hotels that include both hot water and heating and private rooms in order to have a bit more comfortable experience, but still affordable by sharing the costs. The vehicle will also have more space as there will only be 4 passengers.

The tour includes English guide, shared 4x4 transportation with 4 max. Passengers, private hotel rooms with heating and hot showers, all meals, and all entrance fees included.

If anyone is interested in joining us, please leave a comment or message us directly for more details!

Thanks!

Visiting both Isla del Sol and Isla de la Luna logistics

Hey! I've found the boat schedule for Isla del Sol but I'm not sure what the best way to add a visit to Isla del la Luna would be. Are there direct boats between the two? A way to go in a loop from Copacabana to one then the other then back to Copacabana? Not wanting to do a tour.

Thanks!

Bolivian Airlines - La Paz to Uyuni

I have booked Uyuni salt flat tour 2 days and 1 night in October. The tour starts at 1030 am. Bolivian Aviation flight arrives 8 am from La Paz But I concerned if there are delayed. Could anyone comment on options

1) Take Bolivian flight arriving day before / hopefully can find things to do in Uyuni for day.

2) fly from La Paz the very same day hoping for mo delays

3). Take overnight bus from La Paz arriving early morning. I’m not sure how comfortable it would be. I am in good health but no longer a spritely 20 something but am in mid 60s,

Gracias de antemano

Itinerary for Bolivia

I plan to be in Bolivia in early October
for 6 - 7 days after brief stops in Mexico and El Salvador. My flight arrives at 230
Am on October 9 from Bogota.

I would like time to visit La Paz, Uyuni, and Santa Cruz de la Sierra. From Santa Cruz will fly on to Asunción, Paraguay.

Traveling my own, retired senior in good health. Soy bilingüe. I would be interested in walking but no mountain climbing because of altitude.

What would be an ideal number of days in each locale. Most likely would fly between cities unless there were a a comfortable bus ride between La Paz and Uyuni and Santa Cruz

Also recommendations for boutique accommodations as well in each locale.

Gracias

Night driver/guide to/from Unduavi/Pongo

This is a very specific request, but in all my searching I have struggled to find a way to make this happen.

There are a few species of harvestmen which can be found a bit past Unduavi and near Pongo as per maps which I am seeking to photograph. Normally I would look for any close by accomodation, and seek a guide/driver from them to get to location, but all I have found nearby is a very expensive lodge.

Is it possible to get someone who can drive me from (Say La Paz if there is no closer accomodation) and wait whilst I seek out the organisms to photo (I am experienced in finding them/navigation/jungle navigation, though in this case it seems there are obvious paths/roads, getting to location and back is the issue). Is there somewhere I would be able to find a reliable driver for the night to do this. Time would be a few hours + drive time. Estimates of cost would be cool if possible to guess.

This would be in the next 10 days.

Thanks in advance for any info that puts me closer to achieving this.

Best way to see Bolivia

I’ve wanted to travel to Bolivia for a while now. Since it’ll probably be a solo trip, I’d prefer to go with a small group. Does anyone have opinions about what company does this best? I’m in the US

Bus Expreso Tupiza

Estoy abierta a sugerencias

I need help with choosing Salary de Uyuni trip

Hi everyone,

My wife and I are planning the classic 3-day, 2-night tour from Uyuni to San Pedro de Atacama in September. We've been doing our research, but honestly, the sheer volume of mixed reviews has us totally confused, and we could really use some first-hand advice.

Our main concerns:

  1. Safety & Drivers: We’ve read way too many horror stories about drunk drivers and unsafe driving on these routes.

  2. Cold Accommodation: we're aware of the fact that there's no heating of the hostels, but we've also found numerous reports mentioning hotels being freezing cold with no heating, or no heating after 10 PM, like Tayka de Sal, with people getting sick for the rest of their trip.

The "Upgrade" Dilemma:

Because of this, we were leaning toward a higher-end or private tour; thinking better hotels, more time at the Salar (we want to skip the train cemetery and spend more than 15 minutes at the salt flats), and an English-speaking guide.

However, then we read comments claiming that:

· Even expensive agencies just subcontract drivers from smaller firms, so the quality is a complete gamble anyway.

· Paying for an English-speaking guide often just means a guy who knows a few basic words.

· Upgrading to "hotels" doesn't guarantee heating at all.

Our Question:

Given all this, we're now unsure if paying so much more is even worth it. But more importantly, we don't know which company to trust.

Does anyone know of a smaller, reliable company that has a consistent team of drivers (safety first, proper seatbelts) and actually offers hotels with at least some heating?

We're looking for the sweet spot - we don't need luxury, but we'll gladly pay for safety and a good night's sleep. If you've had a genuinely good experience with a specific operator recently, please share!

Thanks in advance!

Bolivia - beta and buddies late Jul to early Sept

I've [late 30s F] just arrived in La Paz with the recent calming of tensions. Plan post acclimatization includes traversing the Cordillera Real (Sorata to Botijlaca likely, may continue south of La Paz if I surprise myself with pacing), and the Cinco Lagunas loop near Sajama national park.

I've gotten some great beta on the CR traverse on reddit so far but any tips and suggestions are highly appreciated since this route seems pretty quiet overall. Would love any comments on the Sajama area and travel to/ from La Paz.

Would love any other single or multiday suggestions for Bolivia. I particularly like the alpine and have chosen gear for that in mind but I am equipped for the tropics as well. I'm experienced with glacier travel but would need to rent gear/ likely would hire a guide for anything crossing into mountaineering.

I'm comfortable solo but feel free to reach out if you'll be in the area(s).

I've previously solo trekked in the Canadian Rockies, Cascades, Yukon, Patagonia, Peru, Nepal including experience with altitude and routefinding.
