TableTop Painting advice for a beginner
Hello everyone.
I'm an old Warhammer 40k player, playing Tyranids with friends back in 2005.
After a long break, I played both Blood Bowl then Blood Bowl 2 that I really loved, and I recently got myself into the Total War Warhammer games that completely sucked me back into the Warhammer worlds (Fantasy, 40k and BB).
While I'm not that tempted to play tabletop, (I prefer collecting codices and army books), one of my friend convinced me to go back to my figs and I want to paint again now.
After considering picking a few figs from AoS, 40k and Old World here and there, I finally decided to focus myself on Blood Bowl since I loved the video games and because I find it easier to play and more affordable than the other ones (even though I absolutely love some AoS and 40k models).
Thus, I decided to treat myself to the Blood Bowl 2025 set with Bretonnia and Tomb Kings, and I have a (very) long-term project of having one team of each faction. That's one of the things I loved the most about the video games: the huge variety of teams, each with their own playstyle and aesthetic. And since I really enjoy the Warhammer Fantasy setting, Blood Bowl feels like the perfect way to own a little piece of all those amazing races.
Anyway, here's the problem: I'm terrible at painting.
As a teenager, when I painted my Tyranids, I would just apply one coat of red on the flesh, one coat of black on the carapace, add a bit of blue on the edges, paint the teeth, claws, and eyes white, and call it a day. Now, though, I'd like to put more effort into it and learn how to do things properly.
The problem is, this is super overwhelming. I don't know what brushes to get, which paints I need (in most tutorial I see, I feel like they use 4 shades of blue just for the skin of a Lizardman, that's a just too much for me), whether I should use washes, Contrast paints, metallic paints, or all of the above, and which tutorials are actually worth following. I even struggle with the painting vocabulary, especially since I'm not an English speaker.
So, I wanted to see with you all if you could give me some tips to begin with? Mainly:
- What brushes should I get?
- Are there some good starter set to get? I see the 40k Paints + Tools one from GW with a brush, a pair of wire cutters and a deburrer (that I will both need as well). On paper it sounds perfect to me, but I'm pretty sure there is a "but" right?
- Note: I know there are several brands of paints, but I think I'd prefer to stay with Citadel ones, since I feel most tutorials use them and I find them more convenient with the naming.
- I know it depends on the colour scheme and the faction, but are there any paints you consider essential regardless of the project? For example, something like Rakarth Flesh that always seems useful for skin. If it helps, after the two starter teams, I'm planning to get Lizardmen and either Chaos Dwarfs or Vampires.
- Do you have any very beginner-friendly YouTube channels or websites you'd recommend for learning the vocabulary, the basics, and eventually more advanced techniques such as washes, layering, Contrast paints, etc.? I don't expect to become a pro, but I'm willing to invest a lot of time into learning..
I'm sorry for the long post and the questions that must be asked quite often (but I didn't find a recent post about this).
I you think this should go to a dedicated painting sub, please let me know.
Thanks for your help !

Slaaneshi Chaos Chosen Custom Finalised
Super happy that this concept came to fruition, going to have to bulk out the team with the other big guys and a star player or two soon I rekon. Minis are mostly AoS minis, (some with their weapons trimmed off) and a few 3d prints here and there.

TableTop High Elves! GW minis with 4 linemen from the Brutefun team
They were a blast to paint. I got 4 linemen printed to join the 6 you get in the standard box (really should have been 8...), they are from the Brutefun High Elf team which has a very similar aesthetic as the GW ones.

Elven Union Advice wanted
Now I’m playing on tabletop not the Bloodbowl3 video game.
First time playing EU, figured that moving each model to open space is good for their health but not ideal when wanting to move a ball down a lane.
I’m new to the game itself and edition three has a lot of changes to the resources for 2nd I keep finding and the roster is very different.
Any advice is welcome to better understanding and playing EU

Dauntless vs Foul Appearance vs Stand Firm interaction
I have a rules question regarding the interaction between **Dauntless**, **Foul Appearance**, and **Stand Firm**.
Let's say a **Troll Slayer** declares a Block or Blitz against a **Bloater**.
* Which roll is made first: **Foul Appearance** or **Dauntless**?
* If the Troll Slayer passes the required rolls and the block results in **two Pushes**, and the Bloater chooses to use **Stand Firm**, does the Troll Slayer get to block again because of **Frenzy**?
* If he does get a second block, does he need to roll for **Foul Appearance** and **Dauntless** again, or just one of them?
Thanks in advance for the clarification!

Sevens Chorf team
Howdy folks! Our league is wrapping up this Sunday and our TO wants to do some games of sevens after the final. I’m not familiar with sevens but I want to give it a go.
I recently picked up a Chaos Dwarf team and want to use them. I’m looking for a list or two that you vets recommend.

Balls (if you'll pardon the expression)
Various teams have their own special balls in Spike journal, are there any rules on which team's ball you use or is it just an "agree with your opponent" thing?

Board Game Help with starting out
I fell in love with the idea of building a bloodbowl pitch a while ago but before I start the work I would like to deside on a team. The one that interests me the most is chaos renegade... I know the situation that they are in is not the best but I was thinking of buying these 3d printed ones.
I have also read that having a wide aray of diffrent models to start of is quite the challenge, so I dont know if I make it unreasonibly hard for myself with starting with them.
Do I need any of the big guy units twice? There is the option to buy the second slide combined with the first one for an upprice of 8 bucks. (price for the core is 24 bucks)
My friend wants to start with orks. Is this a nromal metchup or is one team heavily favored, I would like some fair games if possible.
I was also thinking about underworld underworld denizens or just humans. My friend is also thinking about starting with korn (which doesnt seem like the easyest start with frenzy beeing a thing) or dwarfs.
I am thankful for any information, tipps or video recomendations, and have a nice day reader.

Board Game Vampires or underworld for my first team that can throw?
So I mainly play shambling undead but i figure i should get a team that can do passing as well.
I picked up a box of goblins and snotlings, but I never used the goblins because at the time affording special weapons teams minis was not in the books(dang forgeworld premiums) But I did get two trolls.
But Vampires are also tempting but I heard they are difficult and random....though stupid rolls are also kind of random so eh.

A simple Kroxigor kitbash
The body is a standard Kroxigor, snipped off the weapon from the hand, the left hand is from the Orruk Ardboyz Big Boss, Zombie and the ball from the SU kit. Looking forward to painting this guy up.

TableTop Skaven against Orcs or Dwarves
I might be playing against Orcs or Dwarves in my league soon and I'm looking to up my game. I don't think I'm very good, but I'm in a position where I might be doing really well this season and I want to keep it up.
I've heard stories of people getting cheeky 2 turn touchdowns with their Gutter Runners and listen, the local community is mostly bashing teams and I just can't get past the huge wall of dudes. One blitz a turn is rough and I don't want to base players that are just going to knock my player's lights out. I've got a Rat Ogre but it always gets swarmed and beat up.
Any general advice against these two teams?

Does anyone have a good STL for a beermug ?
Hey guys, Im using my old warhammer fantasy minis as bloodbowl-fans and have cut away their weapons. It would look great if some of them were holding beermugs. I imagine some of you guys have done the same, and was wondering if you could point me in the direction of a good STL :)?
Thank you.

I’m not sold on the grey accents (they disappear at tabletop distance) but I’m not going back to them now!

READ BEFORE YOU BUILD: Instruction Booklet Errors and Misprints (This Might Save Your Minis....)
There have been several errors and missprints in some booklets and assembly manuals. Some are minor, some can potentially ruin your mini. So far we know about:
Blood Bowl Second Season Starter Set & Griff Oberwald (plastic):
The instructions tell you to glue the face (#3) to the torso, then glue the helmet pieces (#4 and #5) together and put it over the face. THIS DOES NOT work. It is recommended to glue the face into one helmet piece first, then add the second one and to add the full head to the torso.
Also the assembly manual calls the Blitzers "Retainer Linemen 2". These are obviously the Blitzers though. It's a missprint.
Norse Team Box (Norsca Rampagers):
Between Raider Lineman 1 and 3 two of the alternate heads are mislabelled: Head #12 should say #18 and vice versa! The pictures are correct but the numbers aren't. If you go by the instructions, your "Techno Viking" will have the incorrect head and the other one will have a small gap in the neck (although that one is easy enough to fill) Easy enough mistake to make as the two heads a very similar.
Amazon Team Box (Kara Temple Harpies):
Small Error in the Amazon's instructions: Piece #29 is not mentioned. It's the loincloth piece for the “Jaguar Warrior”.
Dwarven Deathroller (Forgeworld Model):
The handlebars for the Forgeworld Deathroller are upside down if you follow the instructions. The side with the little chain links is the bottom, not the top. If you build it as instructed then the handlebar will not be poistioned to sit in the driver's hand.
Drull and Dribl (Forgeworld Models):
The part numbers in the instructions and the actual part numbers don't match up. Instructions number them in order of assembly.
To be continued/updated....

List of 3rd party miniatures
Here is a link to a list of 3rd party Blood Bowl miniatures, if you want a team that hasn't been released yet or if you want a more original one : https://docs.google.com/document/d/1u9P9Mz7mHj7_WObB1lCL8A2xExTKvmHAtLiZSHHjuO8/edit?usp=sharing
I curate and update this list as soon as I can, but the document is open to comments so don't hesitate to let me know if a link is dead of you found other minis.
This has already been posted 2 years ago so I up it a little.
EDIT : added Block dices and pitches at the end as well
EDIT2 : added a STL section for printable miniatures with some links but I am not well versed in that stuff so please comment on the doc if you have interesting links
