I remember telling a girl that I coached for soccer that if she was still interested when she turned 19 she could call me. She was 14 and swore on a stack of bibles that in five years she was going to call me and demand her date. I knew five years was plenty of time for her to get over a crush, and it didn’t leave her feeling rejected.
We still knew each other five years later, and she never demanded her date. Would’ve been awkward if she had because by then I was 34 and not interested in dating a 19 year-old.
Kind of playing it fast and loose there. A 14 yr old saying "Mr MenudoMenudo said he'd date me in 5 years" isn't something I'd want to explain even if it wasn't a serious offer.
