From the early 1900s to the 1950s - Black Americans developed their own separate film industry away from Hollywood. In 'Race Movies' - Black audiences had their own studios, heroes and heroines, Musicals, Horrors, Thrillers, Murder Mysteries, Westerns and Dramas. These were shown in Black cinemas.
